Surprisingly Positive Things People Have Said!

Oct 7, 2007

    1. I took my El, Ciaran, to Lowes yesterday - my dad and I (I'm 35, fyi) were shopping for a few things - a respirator for spraying MSC, wire for wiring, S-hooks, plus he needed some staples and things for hanging vinyl siding. I spoke quite a bit to three of the people working there. They were very helpful, and two of them went out of their way to come ask about Ciaran. They really liked him a lot (they adored his Vans shoes especially) and were very interested in him. My dad was cute too, he mentioned to each of them that I'd painted him and others I have. The workers all thanked me for bringing him in and asked me to bring in some of the others next time! I guess it gave them something new and interesting to see and talk about.

    2. Usually my boyfriend just kinda smiles and nods when I talk about the dollies. When Lucy (my puki Sugar) got here I brought her to school the next day. The first thing he said was "She's so tiny! So cute!" Later on he even asked to hold her. :D It made me so happy~ <3

    3. Well, I haven't really taken any of my dolls out. When I have, no one has come up to me to say anything nice (or bad, for that matter). However, when I post pictures I usually get nice comments. Most of them are to Aurora, saying she's cute.

    4. Brought my boy to work today as a "prop" for my Halloween outfit so I was able to ease coworkers into him by saying he is a "possessed doll" prop. Everyone seemed uneasy about him at first but also fascinated! They were all asking questions about him and admiring his clothes when the new girl at work said "I used to own a few of those." Wowww!! She used to own Volks (I believe Dolfie Dream) and we talked about BJDs for a while. I find it CRAZY when I run into random people who know about BJDs.

Also, my male coworker was the most amazed by him. I had my doll sitting on my desk and throughout the day, my coworker would come up to Daigo and look at him, feel his clothes, and pose him. He kept saying how impressed he was with the sculpting. He was so enamored that someone had to tell him to get back to work! LOL!

    5. I got a good reaction out of my friends when I told them I was getting a 60cm BJD, but then again they told me they saw this coming from miles away. I told them what, 2 months ago that I was going to get one? Aniways, I only told my parents about my plans to get that doll 2 weeks ago. I was expecting them to freak when I told them the price, but then my mom asked what she looked like so I showed her the pictures. And then to my great surprise she made the comment that she was really pretty and that she actually looked like me a little and said that as long that it was my own money and not student loan money, she had no problems with me spending so much on a doll!

      Though she did say that she only aproved for one, and that she didn't want me to start collecting them. I guess I shouldn't tell her that I want 5 >_>;;

    6. This may not seem positive in some people's opinions but I was ecstatic when it happened x3

About two weeks ago I was on a field trip with the French Club at my school, we were going to a pretty high-end mall not too far from us to go shopping. (don't ask where the 'French' aspect of the trip ties in, I don't know either, but it was fun!)

So while walking around with Ashael and my other best friend 'Mars', who isn't in the hobby and doesn't see why we have/want these expensive dolls, I decided it was time for me to get a new bag. I finally decided on one I liked and was going over the pros and cons of it to convince myself to buy it, the following conversation proceeded:

Me: I like it, but I don't know...
Mars: Its got plenty of pockets so you can carry all your stuff ^^
Me: That's one of the things I like, and ooh~ Its got a shoulder strap!
Mars: Perfect. *trying to talk me into it*
Me: You know, I bet you I can fit Kori in here :D
Mars: See? That's why you should buy it, it'd be perfect for you~
Me: *semi-stunned* Awe...that was the most supportive thing you've said about him x3 *hugs*

      ...

I was seriously shocked that she'd even briefly mentioned Kori in such an honestly positive way x3 It's a first and I'm hoping that means she doesn't find them as 'stupid' as she previously thought...maybe I'll even be able to convert her xDD Doubtful, but its a nice thought!

      PS

I did buy the bag and Kori -does- fit :D So he has an official temporary carrying case which means I can take him out more often! whoot~

    7. Awww that's always so great when people we think don't care say something like that (: that's great that Kori fits too!! :D

    8. Only a few of my friends, my sister, and my mum know about my interest in BJDs.
One of my friends thought they were really cute and she got over the price pretty quickly.
The other was a little skeptical at first but now she has found ones she wants too!

She doesn't want to buy them because she thinks she'll end up playing with them for a while then lose interest.
I told her that she can play with mine when I get it and she is really excited to make clothes for her! :D

I'm so glad that I'll have someone to help me.
My best friend also offered to help me buy my doll but I thought it was too much so I said he can buy me some items for them instead, lol.

My sister was really accepting and the price didn't shock her once I explained why... my mum was a little less thrilled by it but after I explain everything people seem to understand -- though they don't mind what I do with my own money as long as I don't go into debt or anything.
My sister went on about how other people have other expensive hobbies and waste their money on clothes or something, so why not dolls?
As long as it makes me happy, and I'm responsible with my money.

My best friend has a kuma named Kuma Jr. that he treats like a person so we've decided his bear and my doll will be best friends!
Well, I'm hoping they'll get along, lol. :sweat

    9. Federie I know~ It was just so unexpected and it really made my day x3

      Femi That's awesome :D I love hearing that other people in the hobby have such positive and supporting people around them ^^ Although it does make me wish my own family/friends were more like that lol xD;;

    10. When I use to live at the Grand Canyon National Park. I would take my dolls on walks around the rim or sit at the cliffs watching the sunset and stuff.

Tourists use to ask if they could hold my doll or tell me how cute she was... but my doll was a Ttori boy and usually it was hard for them to be convinced my doll was male.

    11. My clasemates are really interested in BJDs! xD
one day, I brought my Wilka at school because I had an appointment after classes.
And My clasemates were asking me what was that bag, so I took my doll out.
Them were like really amazed and didn't stop asking me questions about him!

      I was really surprised! ^^

    12. When I brought Adam to my grandparents the first time, I feared that my grandmother would call me childish. Though, it was the opposite effect. She actually worked with someone who collected BJDs and planned a day for us to meet-up. She also liked a few of the girl dolls I showed her on the AS site. It was kinda surprising seeing how she wasn't one to like dolls that much.

    13. Last week my new classes for the semester started up in Uni. Long story short, we had to do an introduction to the class (which was amusing as it seemed like we were in grade 1!XD) and had to give one unique aspect of ourselves. Some people mentioned strange sports, random stamp collecting, and obvious little funny and fun things. I ended up mentioning I collect BJDs.

The response from the professor, and the class, was quite shocking in that everyone seemed genuinely interested. My professor asked for further details and a lot of people asked for details. I had a lot of interested questions after the lecture. :) The majority claimed it was cool, especially after someone loaded pictures on their laptop.

I had quite the positive experience there. :)

    14. My mom usually doesn't like my dolls because their characters are not "human" or "cute". She especially hates characters with hooves. But one day she came to my room to talk to me about something and glanced over at my dolls and said "Ooh, that one in the corner will be really pretty when you get her all blushed and painted!" She was talking about my Soom Amber who will be a unicorn girl.

That same month, she went nuts (in a good way) over a couple of sexy Dollmore underwear sets I got for my Succubus girl, Lily (Soom Beryl). She even had me show them off to my Grandma! O_o

    15. I put an album of my dolls on my social network page, and a lot of my adult relatives have said very sweet things about what beautiful works of art they are! I'm just so pleased they think I did something cool!

    16. I get a lot that they are beautiful.. they mostly say beautiful girls (most of my dolls are guys) but otherwise it's pretty positive :)

    17. I have gotten two comments that have really stuck with me since I first got Eisen.

The first was at my second meet-up. I was still pretty self conscious about my doll and overwhelmed by the epicness of other peoples dolls. So I sat on the floor with Eisen on my lap kinda hidden when I noticed one of the girls looking at him for a while. She then looked at me and said "Your boy is so beautiful". I swelled with pride on the inside and then found it a lot easier to let other people mess with him.

The second time was when I first told my boyfriend about him. I was again very nervous because the rest of my family had not stopped teasing me since I got him and I didn't know what he was going to think about his 20 year old girlfriend "playing" with dolls. But it didn't bother him at all. "Whatever makes you happy baby, and if a 700 doller doll makes you happy then thats fine with me" :)

    18. My mother and grandmother loved my AoD WanWan, Haeidi, but I showed them knowing they would be the types to like dolls X3
      I guess that's sort of cheating P:

    19. Most everyone at work likes my doll. I've never received any (Serious) negative comments about her. lol My boss even gave me the name of some doll places where I might be able to get clothes for her.

    20. I was at a friend's event, where she was reading from her most recently published book, and I'd brought my doll along, as it was a horror themed night, and well, everyone loves a little elf doll in a horror night.

And one of the other authors and I ended up having this awesome conversation about her, and about dolls in general. I really wasn't expecting it!
