Taking dolls to school or college?

Feb 21, 2005

    1. I don't have too much advice, I don't go to school anymore and never brought dolls (not that I had any BJDs at the time) when I was.
      Just some advice is to be CAREFUL! And make sure it doesn't get confiscated. That would really suck :(

      I dunno, I just would be so scared and overprotective of people touching my doll.

    2. I plan on bringing some to class at college with me. All my 1/6ths are coming with me to see a friend from work so she can see what they all look like. (She's in love with one from pics.) Because of that, I may not get to drop by work first, and I have no intention of leaving them in their bag IN the car from 5:30 until 10:15. So, they're coming to college for a day.
      The next day I may be getting my Hoo too!

    3. I brought Toby one of the last days of school last year. My friend loved him. But I got the "Is that a voodoo doll!?" thing a lot.

    4. I took my girls to school for a presintation...for the most part people were more suprised with how big they were vs. that they were dolls. I personally wouldn't want to take them all day. But I have four.

    5. I plan on bringing Kiyoshi to my Modern China and Japan class on some Friday (which are culture days) as a mini lesson; my teacher already okay-ed it. I would be really careful about letting people touch your doll and... Oh! Make sure that he's comfortable showing off his parts if you tell people that he's correct, becuase you know they'll ask.

    6. Thanks for all the advice, guys :D it's very very helpful!!! <3

    7. MAKE SURE.. YOURE BABY IS WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Some people may know how much he/she is, thus they might try to steal him/her or break it on purpose :/

    8. in highschool i didn't have my doll but i had a freind who got a new plushie onece a month from her boyfreind who lived down town and we lived in the country/hickville so to make her feel less akward when she brought it to school we all brought dolls or plushys in on that same day our teachers didn't mind but we made kids cry who thought they were scary. adn on day we brought them on exam day adn my babling boo doll got kicked and was talkining during part of the time she was in my purse

    9. I'm bringing my girl to school this Thursday. ^^ But...shes a mini, so I dunno if it would work with an SD cause they're really big. :3 Well, anyways, you'll have to tell us how it goes if you do chose to bring your doll to school?

    10. I've brought my boy to school quite a few times already this year. Biggest thing is i kept him in my bag all day basically with me at all times. He came out in the mornings to visit my friends who think that they are some fo the most amazing things ever. I also took him out in art when we had to bring in things that represent us. biggest thing is to make sure people aren't touching him if you don't want them to.

    11. I'll def. post when I bring him to school for sure, cloudymoonx <3

      thanks again for all the helpful comments :D

    12. I bring my dolls to school all the time, though I only take them to classes where I'm not up and moving on my feet because they would just get in the way. But in math or english I use them as pencil or calculator holders. My teachers have a habit of taking them when I'm not looking and posing them though, or just writing them off as a leech thing and ignoring them. I sleep on the couch with my dolls all the time during free periods and just shove them in my locker to chill when I don't feel like toting them...

    13. Niko comes to school with me everyday. I don't like leaving him here mainly because the cats think everything is a chew toy and they're climbers. But I like to have him with me too. Though, I'm in college and only go three days a week for four hours int eh afternoon. But people like him. They're interested in him.. and they always are shocked to learn he's a boy.

      In my Art Appreciation class, the teacher liked him so much she had me do a presentation on BJDs (in a huge lecture hall with 100+ students *_*) but it was fun and I got to show him off.

      If people want to hold him, I tell them that he's heavier than he looks and that they need to keep both hands on him and not touch his face. But mostly people just look and ask questions. I wish I had him during my High school years. (but that was a long time ago >D), I would have brought him with me all the time then, too.

    14. Ah, I was going to bring Ryu with me today, but mom wouldn't let me.
      I might bring him with me Wednesday, because it's a half day.
      I want to see how people react. ^_^;

    15. cool, kitsunabu ^^ hope this thread helps out a bit :D

      Adridear, that's so cool you got to do a presentation ^^ I wouldn't have the guts! X3

    16. haha, I know there's a thread about this actually, as I started one sometime last Spring and a couple months later it was joined with another thread with a title that didn't look like the thread was about taking dolls to school, so i can understand why search may have failed you, as I didn't get results when I had looked, either. ^_^

      but uhm, I've taken both of my boys to school on separate occasions. I've gotten a lot of either "that's cool" or "that's creepy"-- people seem to be either one way or the other. Just about every other day I have this desire to take one of the boys in with me RANDOMLY, but because they're so big and I have to do a lot of stair climbing this year, I haven't yet. My next guy's a mini, so I'm definitely looking forward to the lighter weight and that I know he'll fit a lot easier into a bag to carry around in. I expect to be dragging him around EVERY day. xD

      Only thing that i didn't really expect I'd be doing was uhm, taking Amarok's head off (he's the one-touch system) to put his eyes back in after he fell backwards on one of the Home Ec tables right when the bell rang (he's usually such a good stander, too! Dx). now THAT got some weird looks. xD;

      But yeah you'll get people that are interested and people that are, well, disgusted. And of course, if you get a boy like your sig says you want, you'll most likely have to deal with "Are you SURE that's a boy..?" but that's just to be expected. ^_^

    17. I would say find a reason to have him there. Write a paper/presentation on them. Use him as a visual. This may warm up your teachers and classmates to him and make it easier to have him around. ^__^

      (I bring Kiki to work sometimes, and the guests love her or ignore her while she sits on the counter behind the registers!)

    18. heheh ^^ My boy will have shorter hair but its pretty much inevitable with those pretty boys ;D as of now I'm getting a shiwoo, actually ^.^ thanks for the response :)

    19. Ahaha. You must have my mom. xP
      I would like to bring Aubrey but it's too much of a risk IMO. n_n;;

    20. hehe, I've brought my boys to school several times. In high school I hauled my first BJD, Nanashi my FCS SD13, in right after I got him. Of course, I was known as the odd one at my school, you know, the girl who carries lightsabers around and has all male friends 'cause she talks all the time about, er, naughty things. Be careful, though--when rumors about their genetalia leak out everyone will do the Hormonal Teenager Freak-Out Dance and the teachers might get mean and take your baby up. I'm a junior at the University of Texas now and, well, in college they don't have a right to take your stuff up. They can kick you out of class but they can't take your dolls away! I bring my boys all the time. Apparently they're less distracting than cell phones 'cause my profs have always just ignored them. Of course, it's a lot harder to distract other students when you're paying what we pay to even attend classes! ;) Have fun taking your kiddo to classes!!!
