Taking dolls to school or college?

Feb 21, 2005

    1. I got that at school too. A friend of mine used to collect porcelain dolls (and never once brought one to school) and she was called a sissy, I'd probably have been called a perv if I had BJDs (whether I brought them to school or not.)

I don't think schools are the right environment for these dolls. Too many little egos wandering around.

    2. I wish I had had a doll when I was in high school now!! but i suppose thats because my teachers would have just laughed and probably be more distracted than the students!! there was only one evil teacher who would have objected, my year coordinator in year 12 (also the librarian and ancient history teacher) but she was a cow and hated anything even remotely interesting (seriously most of our books were old and gross!) so we mostly ignored her.

And my friends from uni have demanded I bring my girl in as soon as I get her =.=" lol but I still live at home so the most i have to worry about her getting damaged on the buses too and from

    3. yeah, I hear that devils conscience! I now think I should've bought a carrier too but if worst comes to worst I'll just carry her on the bus ^^; my friend told me that when I bring her to school I should dress her in school colours(which I thought was an awesome idea) XD

    4. I would never bring my doll to school with me, at least not to the campus for classes or studying. I would rather be focused on my work than having to protect my precious dolls. If I were staying in a dorm though, I would definitely take them! I think I'd try to have a special place for them to go when people I don't know are around. I'm too paranoid that someone would steal/break them.

    5. Mods- I did a search, but didn't find a post like this. If I didn't look hard enough or if this is the wrong forum, please take care of it. <3

So I had been talking to someone and she said when she had taken her doll to school (the same school I'm going to), she said everyone loved it. So I decided to. :( Biggest mistake of my LIFE. Everyone loved him and thought he was either cool or adorable and I thought everything had gone well. There wasn't excessive grabby hands and the people that *did* touch and hold him, I watched like a hawk. Unfortunately, I had to step out of the classroom for a few minutes to take a phonecall and when I went back in, I noticed it a bit strange that he was in a different position than when I left; I thought nothing of it.

      However, when I got home, I noticed that the paint on his fingernails was chipped. I cleaned it off in hopes of repainting them, but to my dismay his fingertips were BLUE :...( Someone apparently thought it was a good idea to use a SHARPIE on my boy! (I don't know if they were trying to be helpful or cruel) Horrified, I looked him over and discovered random pen marks, smudges, and his faceup had been rubbed away at the sides. ;^;

Aside from permanently blue fingernails (repainted so you can't notice) and a rubbed faceup (going to be getting it fixed), I managed to clean him up. But I am NEVER taking him to school with me EVER again. I was appalled that someone could be so careless with another's belongings. I am just thankful that he isn't chipped or anything broken but this experience has definitely turned me off of taking him anywhere (besides the occasional car ride, or mall trip).

What horror stories do you have about taking your dolls to school?

    6. Ick. =( I've never taken one of my dolls to school, but I'm in college, and I'd hope my classmates are mature enough to respect my things. If I do take one of them, I'm not going to leave them unattended for even a second - I just can't trust people with something so expensive, even if I want to.

    7. I hadn't taken Kha to school yet, I was planning to on Halloween, because I'm possibly going to a meet afterward, but after hearing that, now I'm not so sure (Kitsunia and I go to the same college, by the way.)

I wish people would learn to respect others' property, regardless of its value.

    8. I would never in a million years take a doll to school if I was a pupil. If I was an art teacher, it would be one thing, but never, never if I was a pupil. Children/teenagers on the whole do not respect other people's property, especially if the owner has turned away, and it is always at your own risk that you take your doll anywhere where these ruminants are likely to be.

    9. My experience with taking my dolls to school in high school was a good one. My english teacher really liked them(they're even in the yearbook) and everyone wanted to see them, no rude comment or anything, but they probably thought I'd hit them or something if they were rude.

Now in college I don't bring them out often but last year for one of my seeing classes I made a doll kimono for an extra credit project and my teacher loved it and my doll too. Any other times I brought them out was to show my BJD interested friends. :)

    10. I took Kauko to college to show him to a friend of mine who was interested. It was quite a bother having to carry him around and most of my friends were rather uninterested but gentle in picking him up and handling him. So not a big deal really. I'd prolly bring him again if he was involved in a project somehow but other than that it's just useless extra weight you have to drag around for 8 hours.

    11. Personally, I would not trust people I don't know well with my doll. I rarely leave my things unattended, I had to turn my back on my laptop for about five minutes during my web class today while trying to figure out why I was getting calls from my landlord's contractors (they got the wrong message), but I've had the same students in my class for nearly the past three years, we're a small department and nearly everyone has the exact same equipment, so it's not like mine's any better then theirs.
My girl rides with me to my university classes on two days a week, but she doesn't come out in class. Maybe hidden away in the library with me, but I mostly bring her to fit the clothes I am sewing between classes. Long breaks, but not long enough, bleh.

    12. Ahahahahah, you have to be joking right? If someone took a doll into our school (even if it was an amazing one) you would either
      A) be beat up and have your doll smashed into the ground or used as a football
      B) be bumped into and doll would go flying....then trampled on
      or
      C) All of the above!
Plus our lockers are tiny- I can even fit 2 hardbacks in it so that would be no good!

Edit: Also my friends are all pervs! I cant even begin to imagine what the would do to my poor doll!

When I go to art college my dolls may come about with me! (by then I hope to have many to prance about with!)

    13. High school is terrible.

._. But I took mine to college. Where there isn't anybody under 19. Most of the people in my class are over 20, so you'd THINK they'd know to respect other people's property...

    14. I go to both tech and art college (part time at two different colleges is always fun) and I take my two dolls with me all the time. Most of my teachers find them very interesting, and art students appreciate them for their structure and creativity.

At my tech school it's a little different but everyone seems to respect the fact that I carry two 1/3 bjds around with me....it's kinda odd actually that I haven't had issues with them yet...

I would have never taken them into high school....never.... *shudders at the horrors that would happen to them in high school*

    15. I didn't see you post here. :doh

Anyhoo, I was really surprised by it! ;^; Most of the people in my class are really friendly, but I *should* have suspected. I didn't because I figured he'd be safe for a couple of minutes. ._. I was sorely mistaken.

And there is a meet you say? *3* Sorry for intruding, but mew? (If you don't want to tell me, that's cool. <.<; )

    16. I could never take my dolls to school o-o I know a lot of jerks in my school and I'd just...rather not ya know? -shudder- it scares me to just think of what people would do to my beloved Caesar :<

    17. I go to a school that is very...how shall we say...not accepting of dolls. Football, beer, ultimate Frisbee, yes. Dolls, no. So I just keep my boy in my room tucked away on a shelf above my bed where he is not easily seen and he is left alone. He never goes to class with me. But my friends that do know about Liam like him just fine and don't mess with him. But he is an MSD, so where I am going to put Luke, an SD, when he arrives, I am not quite sure! He might fit on the shelf with Liam. I hope so, at any rate.

    18. I have my dollies at college with me. I started collecting them last semester, much to my roommate's dismay. But she doesn't really say or do much besides call them creepy. Idk if I'd ever bring them out to a class or anywhere public besides the fields behind my dorm for a photoshoot. I also happen to live in a suite and this year I live with 3 other girls, 2 of which have seen my dollies and love them :)

    19. I'm in college and unles my Japanese teacher got into a conversation about expensive hobbies (BJD, Cosplay, Lolita, etc) I wouldn't even mention I had a doll.
I don't have my doll yet, but if I ever take her out of my house or my yard, it wont be to school. Colleges are great places for things to disappear. My friends have lost a lot of things and I would hate to be paying attention in class and then the next thing I know my doll is gone.

    20. i brought my dollie to school once, it's fine as long as you carry him around in a proper carrier and don't be all gung-ho and put him in the crook of your arm or something. just take him out when you want to show someone/play with him and KEEP HIM WITH YOU ALWAYS~

      there are always idiots everywhere.
