Taking dolls to school or college?

Feb 21, 2005

    1. I bring him to my internship almost everyday unless its raining. But They all love him but keep calling him a her. Heehee. He is still new so I don't take him to a lot of places. But he has a way of making me really comfortable in situations where it is more socially challengeing for me.

    2. Haii! I've been skimming though this thread and it looks like it's mostly about college... does anyone bring their dolls to high school?

    3. I haven't brought my mini to school with me, but I know my tiny will stay with me in my dorm. I'm just more worried about my mini girl.

    4. I recently brought my Unoa to school, becase we had to give presentaions about our creative outlets (highschool, not college). She stayed in a shoebox packed well until the presentation, though, and a lot of people thought it was cool (as well as creepy, lol)

For college, though, I won't bring them (or any of my other expensive posessions) until I feel like I can trust my room mate. It's not worth having things stolen or broken.

    5. haha, no way in hell.
my babies are staying home and out of the sun -paranoid-

    6. I've never lived at a school dorm, and I trust my roommate enough to not worry of my dolls at my flat. (Well if she lets me drive her car, I guess I can trust her enough not to lock my dolls away. 8'D)
My classmate lives at our school's dorm though, and if she had to share her room (they're two-people rooms, but thanks to the little amount of people needing a room, she can have one for herself) she'd probably lock it out of sight... Except that the school has taken the keys to the usual little lockers away since some underaged teens kept stashing alcohol in there. >_<*
If I lived in a dorm... I'd probably get a lock in a drawer or something and put my doll there, seeing what kind of people at our school's dorms hang...

    7. I don't even take my dolls out of my room. I would only take them to College in my dreams!

    8. I've had mine up at college last year and he would sit on my bed with my teddy bear. I didn't bring him up this year though because i realized I would be very. However, it's made me miss him dearly and plan on bringing him up with me after thanksgiving break. I plan to spend a lot of time with him and also plan on a small image change for him when i get back home.

    9. Everyones talking about collage o.o... Well mines about school >.<
So far in N.C. I have met no person(havent gone to a meet up yet), especialy in school where people know about bjd's. Though I'm still waiting for my Bobobie Mei, my friend brought her one doll head to school once, and they all freaked out majorly. Some people liked him (the doll) but others were creeped out. Probably a very low chance it would get stolen even though anything can happen in school. I wonder how my class mates would act if I brought my doll to school... (concidering how over-reactful they are..)

    10. I've already decided that I won't take any doll to school ever. (High school)
With 1300 students in a relatively small school it's no fun in between classes, let alone carrying a doll, fingers might break off and what not. And the students here are a bunch of jerks as well. No thank you.

    11. I just got my first doll and he is defiently coming back to school with me. I can lock my closet so when I leave I'll probably put him in there because well I trust my roommate I don't trust some of the friends she brings in.

    12. I recently had 2 of my monsters at SCAD with me for my first quarter. I have 2 really awesome roommates who I love to bits. One of them I planned to room with because a friend knew her and the other just got assigned to us. I never really worry about my dolls with them just because they're artists too and they've seen BJDs all over dA so they kind of understand what they are and such. I've never caught either of them digging under my bed after my dolls. I share the space under my bed with one of them since we bunked our beds, so it's expected to see her getting something from under my bed. They understand how fragile and expensive they are. One of them even sat at my desk while I was restringing one of my boys and drew his head. xD

And As I said before I basically just keep them under my bed since it gets the least sunlight besides the smelly bathroom covered in toilet water. :c You want to try to get roommates you trust or room with someone you know if you are worried about expensive things. I left my big expensive gaming PC in the dorm over the break and honestly I'm more worried about my roommates using it as a universal computer (they do actually) over my roommates taking my dolls out and swinging them around.

Dorm life with dolls does not scare me as much as flying back and forth to college with them. @__@

Savannah also has a really high crime rate so I honestly feel safer keeping them in a dorm than in a house. >>

I brought Deimos to HS atleast 3 times since I only had him my last semester of my Senior year. I only brought him on half days though because I was always so stressed that someone might knock him off my desk or something. I could only handle a half day of stress. xD They are quite amusing to bring to HS though. I got asked if he was a voodoo doll, and my art teacher was like "his legs are too long :c". I also got paint in his old nappy fur wig in my painting class. xDD As long as you're careful and give 'em a nice scrub down at the end of the day, HS BJD adventures are quite fun!

    13. Now that my first semester in the dorms is over, I have a pretty good feel for how safe it is to bring my dolls there. I've brought my tinies a couple of times to stay for a week or so on my desk and there have been no issues. My best friend/roommate and her boyfriend (who's also one of my closest friends there and lives across the hall from us. He's constantly going in and out of our room) loooove it when I bring them, and get so excited about it. My boyfriend, who's also always in and out of the room, thinks they're okay, and respect that the dolls are something I'm into, so he's cool about it and would never dream of messing with them. We have a few other friends that always come in and out, and they know enough to not touch my dolls. They'd rather toss around my stuffed animals, steal my food, and shoot my nerf blasters anyways XD So all around I feel totally safe bringing my small dolls with me, though I *do* hesitate to bring any of my SD-sized dolls, even though my best friend and her boyfriend beg me to. There's not a lot of space, and I fear that some of my friends who don't touch my tinies might decide to play with a larger doll... They're a bit hyper and crazy, soooo..... >.< I'll probably bring one in soon, though, just to test it out. Luckily I live close enough to home that I can visit my dolls and swap them out often, since there's not enough room for all of them to visit at once.

    14. I'll be taking my girls to college often when I get them. I know everyone in my class personally, and I know they'll know better than just pick up something that isn't theirs just like that. I have an apartment so no dorm issues, and my roommate is my best friend that I grew up with (and she loves the dolls too). So for me I think it's really safe to bring them to college. As long that I have them in my sight. there's a couple of people who randomly wander in my classroom that I just know would accidentally do horrible things to them ;_;

    15. I was really nervous about taking my dolls to school with me- I kept them in the case for the first day or so, unsure of how my roommate would handle them. But as it turns out, I lucked out to the extreme- one of my suitemates has dolls as well! Not only that, but my roommate ended up not caring about them. And none of our friends would do anything to them either.

    16. I've taken one of my friend's homemade boys with me to class, and I've had no problems. The philosophy and engineering students liked him. He creeped out a few of my arts friends.

The real fun will be next year - hopefully I'll get Clover before the new year of classes start, and I'll be taking her with me, along with the homemade I got for Christmas. I think they'll take to Clover more than Dillian - she's a more human looking girl XD

I'm hoping to get onto residence, and I know what the rooms are like - and they all lock up. Single person rooms. So, I'd have no issue about leaving them behind.

    17. I will most certainly bring my boy with me to college when I get him. My college campus is beautiful and it would provide me with excellent backgrounds for photos. Most of my school's dorms have locking closets except for the freshman dorms, but they have lock boxes that could certainly fit a doll. However, I may just bring him along with me except on days I have lab class since I'm a bio major.

If i have to, I have a footlocker that I keep locked that he could stay in , buts thats only if there is no other option. I really don't like the idea of him being locked in box.

    18. I want to start a movement on Den of Angels, for all you BJD owners. I know allot of people who think that dolls are creepy and weird, but I want them to get used to it! I don't care what anyone else thinks so what I am going to do is, take my doll every where. I will take him to the mall and even school. I just want to know who else does not care what others think? DO you guys care? Who else will take their BJD to school? :)

    19. I've never cared what others think of me, so I'd have no problem taking my BJD to school! I plan to as soon as I pay for her and she arrives. I'm sure most people will love her. :)

When people have something nasty to say to me, I say something witty back to them! I always have a comeback so they've learned to tread lightly. Their brains are no match for mine, haha.

    20. I used to bring my anime plushies to school on a regular basis, and simply ignored any strange looks I got. I don't have a BJD yet, but once I do, I would imagine they'll be going everywhere with me!

It's also a great opportunity to educate others, and make them understand that BJDs AREN'T just creepy dolls! :sweat
