Taking dolls to school or college?

Feb 21, 2005

    1. I've never really cared what people thought, it wouldn't stop me from taking my Doll to school (If I was still AT school!).
I once got told off for mucking about with a pair of Anime plushies during a lecture at Uni ^^ It's totally cool to break the mould from time to time xD

    2. I would, if I owned one. D:

I bring my plastic mini dinosaur to school all the time. [her name's Miss Priss]

People are used to me carrying odd things around and since there's only about 200 kids in my entire high school, and I know 99% of them there's a VERY slim chance of me losing him/theft. People here are very considerate. :)

PLUS, I bet most people would be terrified of him... which is sad, but that means no one will touch his face! :D

    3. I bring my big SD girls to school, to the movies, to the mall, on road trips, everywhere! I didn't spend all this money on them so they could lay around in my room and collect dust. I love them and I don't care if other people don't. Plus, I have made some good friends thanks to my dolly girls. :D

    4. I have brought my girl to school... twice... and... IT WAS GREAT! I held her with my hand under her bum and my fingers wrapped around her legs. She was close to my body but everyone could also see her. No one tried to yank, grab or do anything to break her.. they more had the, "wtf.. is.. she.. carrying?!?!?!?!" *stay away* kinda feeling.

I really dont mind because I am not really too popular with all my classmates, so im used to the odd looks and critizing glares. However, Aina, was welcomed with open arms as most of the people I hang out with are japanese fanatics and have all heard of BJD's.

Most of the girls were in awe at actually seeing one and they loved her. I am often told to bring her back in but I havent yet, I really dont want to until I get a full outfit for her so that she is covered from foot to head, just so that no more grime gets on her.

I bring her into my art classroom and well, yeah.. oil paints, crayons, color pencils, oil pastels, etc, are all out and being used. So I definitly need more cover for her body before I dare bringing her there again. I only luckily got a bit of a scuff on her back leg.

I say, unless someone begs you to bring your doll in.. dont.. and unless you know no one will yank or try to damage it.. then dont. I am lucky to say I know my classmates and they wont intentionally rip something out of your hands and destroy it. I guess im just lucky though.

    5. Considering my school is overcrowded and thus people continuously bump me, I would not take my doll to school. I'd loved to show her(soon them) to certain people, but it's way too risky.

Plus, I don't feel like adding another subject for people to haunt me with the rest of my life. Too tiresome.

    6. I agree with a lot of other people here, even though I'm in college now, in high school, I never would have brought a doll to school, for fear that it will get damaged or broken. What my classmates think doesn't matter so much as what will happen to my poor little dear.

    7. It's not an embrassment issue, but I don't think it's a good idea to take a doll to school even college. I could understand taking it to a dormitory, but actually taking it with you to class, no. For starters, a doll is not a clothing accessory, nor is it easily stored. And what's the point of taking it with you if you're just going to bring it out just for lunch. Plus, there's too much that could go wrong =/ Unless you're showing someone specific or an art project etc, I say no. But I feel the same way about little dogs in purses >->

    8. Agreed with most of the posts here, I wouldn't consider bringing my doll to school even though I really doubt anyone would do anything at my university. Though, I am highly considering bringing her along with me to conventions, probably going to stick her in my backpack.

    9. Haha! Me too. Just thought it was funny that you mentioned that.

    10. I'm in college and I've taken my dolls to school a couple of times. I'm no longer in gen ed classes though, and the people I end up with are usually pretty respectful of other people's stuff. Still, I've never taken a doll into class unless the teacher has expressed an interest or said they don't mind. If I needed the moral support for something, I would keep them in a bag and hug the bag (mostly for writing critiques. Brutal things x.x ). Dolls have their own place. I think so long as you don't distract others and yourself from learning, you're okay. You just need to be aware of the dangers/drawbacks of having them there.

    11. Awh, my friends are begging me to bring him to school, but our junior high isn't the calmest and doll-safetiest one... I can just imagine what could happen, if I turned my head just for a second. But yeah, maybe I would if I had crafts or drawing classes all day. Which would never happen.

    12. I haven't got my girl yet, but I'm thinking of taking her to school one day- i'm in Anime, comics and gaming and I'm bringing her to show my friends, both bjd and non-bjd. But I won't be doing this on a regular basis- school IS a place for learning and understanding, and NOT for showing off dolls. This is a one-off thing.

    13. I wouldn't do it, but that's just a matter of preference. When I was younger I might have just because I got a thrill from being "the weird one", but I'm not in that place anymore and I'd really rather not. I'm in college, so my doll lives with me in my dorm room anyway and that way I don't have to worry about him getting (more) roughed up or rained on or anything like that. My bag's too small for him to fit in and I'm just so bad at keeping my things nice that it would be a bad idea. :sweat

    14. I have been out of school for a while now, but back when i was still in college, I had my first two dolls on-campus with me. I guess I was kind a peculiar case, because my parents were going through a divorce my junior and senior year. I got my first two dollies while I was consistently crashing in my boyfriend's dorm room for multiple days. So they were actually packed nicely in their boxes in his closet for a good long while.
I guess it's not really too crazy, since I only dragged them out to play with them in his room, or packed them up in their pillows in a backpack to take to out mutual friend's room (who got me interested in dollfies), and carefully hid them from everyone else.
For high school though, I can see where it would be more worrisome. In college, you basically have your own space that you can keep people out of-with the exception of a room-mate (my boyfriend didn't have one. XD). In high school, you walk around to different classes all day then go back home. You don't have any hiding space for them; I guess a locker? :P Which is all crammed full of your things, so there probably isn't room for a dollfie. XD

    15. I'm currently in college right now and I live on campus. My dolls are with me but they stay in the room unless I want to take them outside for a photoshoot. I would never carry my doll to my classes. It's a working environment, how can I expect my professors and my peers to take me seriously with a huge ass doll sitting in my lap or on my desk? Also I don't think that zoology labs and dolls would mix especially after dissection. XD

    16. I won't take my dolls to my college.
It's not because people will look down at me or say sth nasty, but it's because some of them gonna break my dolls!!
If ppl say sth creepy to me, I'll say, " my genuine dolls are much more better than your fake LV bags"

p.s. fake LV bags are easy to find in BKK :P

    17. Well, I've brought my tiny to school once, and surprisingly enough almost everyone just 'accepted' the staring doll on my table, haha xD
People wanted to touch all the time, and asked for the price and so on. Faces was priceless, and after they knew what the doll costed me, NO ONE wanted to touch it.
I think it's completly fine to bring a doll to school, I would'nt bring the bigger ones (MSD, SD, Hound Ex.) Because if you for an example bring a 70 centimeters tall doll with you to school, where do you keep it without having too many bags? And it might be a little annoying, dragging your doll around like that (I personally would never leave the doll alone in the classroom if I were to leave)

    18. There are millions of collecting hobbies in the world; everything from bottle caps to Precious Moments to banjos. What people collect is very personal - to them. I don't really see the point in trying to get others "used to" what I choose to collect, any more than I want to see their hobbies coming at me from all directions. :sweat

    19. i decided to take my dollie to school on monday cause i got her on friday and i promised my friends once i got her i would show her to them :)

    20. I don't want to take mine to school when I get him. Culinary College and BJDs don't really mix. :P

The one I currently have I take with me, because he's teeny enough for it. (He fits in my purse.) o3o

I really wish I could though.
