1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Taking dolls to school or college?

Feb 21, 2005

    1. I don't have one yet either but I want to bring it to school as well but at the same time I don't because I don't want him to get hurt =A=!
I'd bring them to sit with me and keep me company, not sure how my teachers and others would react though..
It's a touch decision to make and I'm still a little iffy on the subject because I know when I get my BJD that he'll be super precious to me and I wouldn't want anyone to mess with him.
I do weird stuff all the time and bring stuffed animals with me to school and wear wigs and cosplay sometimes for club so I don't really care for weird looks and people talking about me cause I'm not conscious about what people think of me.
I'd be more worried for my precious doll's safety xD

    2. I wouldn't....I'm an elementary teacher and can just imagine the chaos and destruction that would yeild. Pre-K is sweet and they wouldn't mean anything awful but... :shudder

    3. I've taken my dolls to school before :P
Mostly they just come out at break, and we avoid the general public XD

    4. I've taken a bjd to school once and got some strange looks but other than that nothing, people don't really mess with me...

Okay so there was this one guy who saw and started teasng me but we are friends and I have a huge crush on him so it's all good <3

    5. Personally I would never bring my dolls out in public unless I'm going to a meet or a con. I wouldn't want an accident happening. Plus BJD's (especially SD's) get kinda annoying to carry around after a while

    6. hahah avoid all human contact!

    7. I've brang my dolls to school more than several time. People usually just give the usual "that's so scary and creepy" comment or they just compliment them.^^

I don't get much stares from people........if anything people stare than ask me questions.
      I've never had a bad experience^^
I love doing photoshoots at school.

    8. I'm too clumsy to bring a doll or anything of value to school. For example, I accidently spilled orange juice in my backback and it nearly destroyed all my things and have a history of things disappearing from my sight >_> I'd die if I accidentally ruined a doll/forgot it somewhere/got it stolen.

    9. If I had owned a BJD when I was at school I don't think I would have taken it with me...no I wouldn't have. I don't think I would have trusted other pupils with it (or myself for that matter lol) So out of fear of it being stolen, damaged or 'misplaced' I wouldn't have taken it into school. Plus the techers would have prob taken it off me anyway lol

    10. Hi! well i was thinking when i get my first BJD i would like to take her to school one day to show her to my friends and teachers . I was wondering if any of u took ur BJD 2 school like high school, middle school, or college, i would like to hear stories about what other students and teachers thought about ur doll and did u have any problems in school bringing ur doll or maybe funny stories that happened in school with ur doll :) i would love to hear them :fangirl:

    11. Yes, many people have! And here is the thread about it: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?352632-Bringing-dolls-to-school

Also, while you're getting acclimated to DoA, you might want to read the General Forum Rules; you can find them by clicking the "Rules" link on the top toolbar. There's a bullet point in there that reads like so:

We have lots of international members and older members here, who find it hard to read posts full of "ur" and "2" instead of words. It's really helpful to us all if everyone is considerate enough to write in complete words and sentences. (Think of it as a way of actually using all that stuff you're learning in school! ;) )

    12. Thanks for showing me this thread :) but i really want to read stories about when they took their BJD to school but thanks anyway that threads more of an opinion about bringing them to school but i am glad to see a lot of people do!

    13. i didnt have one when i ws at school but even if i had i wouldnt have taken them in...my school/area is quite ruff (my spelling is so bad sorry)

but i took mine in to collage alot of the time, i did fashion and design so it was useful...i only got a couple of comments and when my boys wig fell of some one scream a lil bit lol

    14. I've taken a few of my kids to school and so far nothing bad's happened to them. I always make sure to keep an eye on them though.
I'm also leaving for college across the country in a week and taking all my dolls with me, mainly because I don't trust my dad enough to leave them in his care. He once threw away my entire doll collection (non bjds which he gave me) simply because he 'forgot that they were mine.' I'd rather take my chances with them in my dorm where I can watch over them than with my dad who will probably trash them.

    15. When I was in high school I used dollfies to make characters for this diorama. I had a cardboard box fully furnished with miniatures and had sewn little cloths for the dolls to match the book. Everyone in the class was either laughing or freaked out.

    16. With my past two nightmare roommates, I would have never thought about it if I had my bjds. Now that I have two boys and have found out I will be in a single this coming year, my boys are coming with me! I go to college in New York City, so there are lots of opportunities to bring them out and to meetups, and people in the city don't really care if you're carrying something odd around anyway. It'll be a good environment for my dolls. (:

    17. I would never even think of bringing Gabriel to the dorms with me. I am in a suite style room, which means that the dorm I share with my roommate is connected to one of our neighbors through a bathroom between them. If either my roommate forgot to lock our door or one of my suitemates forgot to lock their door then anyone could just come into my room and take my pretty doll.

To summarize, I would not take my girl with me. I feel much better knowing that she's safe and waiting for me when I come home on weekends.

    18. I know this may sound weird, but sometimes certain things can be therapeutic or helpful to just hold. I just ordered my first doll a few days ago and he should be arriving in a couple of weeks. My senior year is starting up and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't mind bringing him along with me on bad days, but I'll probably wait until I have a doll carrier.

I don't want to get all gooey and I'm not asking for sympathy, but a lot of things have been going wrong lately and it seems the only thing that makes me happy is the thought getting August soon. I've recently found myself pulling on my hair and my friend and I are fairly sure I'm getting Trichotillomania (the strong urge to pull ones hair out). I've researched and people who do this often try to occupy their hands with silly-putty or the like. I had been using a smooth rock to run my thumb over, but I recently dropped it and it broke.

Back on the subject, I'm fairly sure that August will be my new object. Whenever I'm sitting there and I find myself pulling, all I'll have to do is reach over and hold him in my left hand since that's the one I pull with. I found myself doing this in school too, so if he really becomes any help, I'll probably end up taking him to school anyway.

I'm not too concerned about people grabbing him. People at my school are immature, yes, but not enough to just reach over and grab something sitting in my lap. But I wouldn't have him out of my sight or even out of my arms even when he's in his case.

I think as long as you are careful and know what you're getting yourself into and what kind of environment your school has, then I wouldn't be too afraid. But if you know there are people who would just pluck your doll out of your arms, I wouldn't risk it.

But to me, it's more of a health/therapy reason to take him than a reason to just have people stare at me.

    19. Defiently take him to college if you don't he will be so lonely. I think as long as you don't people how much he is then it's probably not likely he will be stolen. But maybe put him in a safe place(where your roomate doesn't know/alot of the times the desks or closets will have locks on them) when your not there.

    20. (This thread is almost over! o.0)

I'm going to live in a dorm with 3 other girls, so I'm concerned about leaving my dolls there, even though my room will have a lock. But regardless, I am taking my 2 dolls with me. ^_^
