Taking dolls to school or college?

Feb 21, 2005

    1. That's a good idea~ I only have one MSD sized girl, but I was thinking of getting a tiny as a graduation present to myself. That way she will be too small to notice...
      I haven't signed up for housing or roommates or anything yet. I need to do that soon. I'm really hoping I get someone nice and then we could be friends. :D

    2. I'm in the same situation. I haven't decided what to do yet.

    3. I am in college, well returning to college after a very long hiatus. My advice is NOT to bring your dolls. No because your room mate will be bad but your room mate my bring friends or others who will not be as respectful. Face it college students are not the most responsible people, I know I spend everyday with them. I would leave your doll home unless you could bring a tiny who can be hidden and well protected. Room mate suck whether your in college or not and for me I wouldnt risk an expensive investment like a doll or jewelry for that matter. Good luck in school, its a blast!

    4. Oh God I forgot about friends D: I think a tiny is in order... Also thank you:3! I really hope it's as fun as people say it is, because everyone tricked me on senior year! IT'S NOT AS FUN AS EVERYONE SAYS. :C

    5. That's true, I totally forgot about that :'D Well, I plan on bringing a tiny safe with me anyway; maybe stick your doll in there when you're not using it if you bring one?

    6. I was thinking about a small safe or footlocker too from the Army surplus store... My boyfriend (who's in the Army) said they're really helpful! ^-^

    7. I have two tinies and I'm actually glad I don't anything bigger cause it would just add to the crampedness of the room. They can stand or sit on my desk out of the way.
      I keep them in their bag when I'm not around but I'm not really worried about my roommate doing anything to them. I mean I leave my rather expensive laptop out in plain sight when I'm in class and nothings happened to it so why should i worry about dolls that she has no clue of their worth.
      btw we have lockable rooms and both of us are careful to lock it when the other isn't in even if we're just going to the bathroom, so there's not much chance of other people coming in.

    8. I live in an apartment off campus and I really don't want to carry my doll around. I don't mind it, but it's just not something I would do. Carrying them around when I'm not in school I don't mind. Maybe it's because I'm the only girl in my class. 0.o

    9. I'm not sure. I tend to be very forgetful and I would die if I forgot my Maggie somewhere.
      I live at home so leaving her in a dorm isn't really something I have to think about.

    10. I typically bring my doll back and forth with me from home to my dorm (except for the last few weeks of course, and now I need him -_- Look how that one turned out...). But my room is set up like a suite with 4 rooms opening onto a kitchen/living room area with the hotel-like key set up, so no one can get into my room without me wanting them to. So he's pretty safe sitting in my room when I'm in class and such. I bring him to club every once in a while and creep my friend out (she has a massive phobia of dolls... I'm horrible some times :sweat) and my room mates know I have him in my room (well 3 do. The other one would probably try to steal it just cuz I have it -_-; ). As long as you can transport them safely and know what your roommates would do with them, things should be okay. If you're not too far away from home, you can always get them later ^_^

    11. i actually ordered my first doll when i was away at college! XD
      so basically he was home while i was away anyway...and i try to separate my doll hobby from real life anyway, not because i'm ashamed, that's just how i roll...so leaving him home was the obvious choice. plus, i know my home is a safe and constant environment, but at a college dorm at a university famous for being a party school...well....i love my roommate to death but i just don't trust the other people that frequented our room...TAT;;;

    12. I took my doll to school the day after i got him ;u;

    13. My first doll was shipped to my college a month after I started. So, obviously I support keeping your resin buddies with you. But first, I made sure my roommate was okay with it (aka not scared crapless of him). That can make a big difference, asking beforehand. Now, Noa and Hayden are on my shelf, in plain view of the room, and come with me as I travel between home and here.

      The biggest thing, I think, is knowing if your roommate will do anything to your doll, or let someone else mess with your stuff. Personally, I hate my roommate, but I know she wouldn't do anything like that. My roommate next year is terrified of my dolls, but tolerates it because we're bffs. :3 If anyone is agonizing over bringing their dolls to school, especially with a new roommate, I'd leave them home at first, get a sense of who you're living with, maybe talk it over with them, and then decide to bring them back or not over fall break.

    14. College is wonderful, you'll love it. I just wish I did it when I was younger. I graduated and went straight to work as a hairdresser. I love college now but it would be more fun if I didnt have other responsibilities.
      Back on topic, a tiny is perfect because you can take it with you and it is small enough to drag around. Plus you can put them into a cute little carry case and no one would be the wiser. I would definitely save the expensive dolls for home especially if someone thinks it is a cheap thing and decides to pay a joke by damaging the doll thinking they can just buy you a new one. People can be jerks.
      On another note I dont get why dolls are considered scary?

    15. I found my current flatmate on this forum and we go to doll meets together XDDD

    16. Ooh that's very cool!

      Me, I think I would be a little scared of bringing my dollie to school.

    17. I was planning on a doll to have at college so my arms won't be so terribly lonely when I go to bed. It never occurred to me that someone might steal it. I think I'd either go with a single dorm or have a camera in one of my dolls eyes that streams to a computer so, if he gets stolen, I know who the culprit would be.

    18. Now that I have my doll,
      I bring her to school (high school) every other day. Mostly because of sewing class.
      I fully intend of bringing her with me to my tour day at the local campus. She couldn't fit any more perfectly into my purse! So I love bringing her along with me to the places I go. (She's even come to work with me before!)
      People can't steal her if she doesn't leave my sight, now can they? =P

      Although I have thought of making a wood chest with a lock on it which would also be attached to a bed post or something . . . Just in case, you know. For when I do eventually move out and have room mates.

      Now the first day I brought her to school . . . Oh boy. xD I was sooo nervous. I didn't want to put her in my locker, so I took her to every one of my classes. Now she has a little cozy safe place in my locker at school. (and in a locked room in my sewing class)

    19. Since I'm already working...yeah, I bring my dolls to the office..and they've become popular to my officemates

    20. I bring my dolls to my college since I'm living in the dorm, but I don't bring them to class. The reason is aside from the sun being the hottest at the place where I live, most of my male classmates are retards. The last time I bring a doll, he got molested from head to toe. Not to mention a classmate of mine took him while I was not looking and didn't tell me about it. I frantically looked for him, almost screamed in class. She didn't even apologized. That makes me a little sensitive when people touch my boys. At first I put my boys in my cupboard, but after a while, they just sat on my bed. My room mates knew the rules when it comes to my boys. Plus usually when I'm at class, either one of my two room mates is in the room. They help me look after my boys while I was gone.
