1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

talking to your BJD

Sep 26, 2014

    1. Since I'm a person who sometimes talks out loud too, I talk more to myself than to dolls, but if I'm playing with them, they are included in my comments! LOL
Basically it's a way to speak to yourself when you speak out loud but I don't think is a good habit to speak out loud in general... when you speak alone, due to the fact that you feel free to say all the things you want, with this, you reveal too many aspects of your personality and your weaknesses are even more exposed and 'understandable' by whom should not understand you so better.
There's things that is better to think just inside your mind. Isn't never good to speak out loud. Not because your doll is creepy and can kill you or parents or someone of your neighbors may hear you, but for other more important reasons.

    3. I definitely talk to my dolls! I also talk to my teddy bears and to myself at times so I see nothing at all odd about it! I think it enhances the fun.

    4. i been talking to my doll a bit while im stuck in the hospital and i dont know if it's because of that but i think it's been helping me feel less lonely especially since my parents cant visit often due to living two hours away. anyways i think it's only weird to talk to them is if you expect a answer

    5. I don't have my doll yet, but I'm already planning to talk to her. 8D I live alone and never really go anywhere and most of my friends no longer live in the same city as I do. I can't have pets in my apartment (not allowed, plus my big sister and mother are allergic), so having a doll will feel like I have company. : 3

    6. I don't much, unless they're being uncooperative during dressing or posing then I may try the "ask nicely" approach.

"C'mon, get your arm in there. OK, stay, STAY... Thank you."

Though every once in a while when I come home after being away for a bit I'll say hi to them, and it does help the place feel less empty.

    7. I only have a head at this time, but I do talk to her sometimes. Just small compliments as I'm making items for her. :)

    8. This is kind of embarrassing but I talk to my dolls a lot. I chat to them when I'm annoyed or when I'm super happy. Sometimes I even ask them how they're feeling, or what kind of clothes they want me to buy, etc. I guess I kind of think of them as real people every now and then!

    9. Yeap. Sometimes it's more like "Mmkay, thaaaaaat's it" (when trying to coax hands through a shirt sleeve, or when I'm trying to get my girls into a specific pose), other times Hyacinth has had to patiently listen while I explain lengthy homework problems to her. They're good sounding boards for ideas I can't quite work out in my head.

    10. I talk to my dolls too, and also I've been talking to my plushie for years now haha. I usually talk to them when I'm dressing them up or combing their hair. Sometimes I ask them whether should I get you a bro but I've got no money now, or I wanna get you some new eyes and wigs, I'm gonna sew some clothing for you someday, etc :XD:

    11. I talk to mine all the time! Like many others, it's mostly one-sided conversation or making demands that they just keep their balance for one darn minute. I'll praise them for holding a pose or sticking it out in less-than-deal weather or putting up with tons of photos. I'll make random comments or complain to them about life. But, as each one has a distinct personality, I often imagine what their responses would be: Kyle is enthusiastic and encouraging; Dash pretends he didn't hear me and is not interested; and Reann is the shy, quiet listener.
I do talk to myself a lot, anyway. Having my doll companions around just makes it a little more interesting :whee:

    12. I bring my youngest doll to work and my colleague spotted me asking my girl a question. I was like browsing through taobao for her clothes and just instinctively asked her, "What do you think? Reckon this will look good on you?"

My colleague coughed and looked at me in a weird manner. :aeyepop:

So yeah, I definitely talk to my girls when I'm with them.;)

    13. I have a few of my dolls standing on my art desk,It's hard not to talk to them because It's like having another person there. I guess that's o.k. to talk to them, but If they ever start to answer you and hold a conversation there may be a problem.

    14. I haven't had a complete conversation with my dolls, but I did whisper ever so softly when she came out of her box. "You are perfect.."

    15. I do talk to my doll in my head a lot, but aloud I think I've only smiled at him and patted his hair. I tend to talk aloud to my pets (who live beside my doll, so he's included by default)

    16. I do, especially if I'm feeling particularly down or anxious or if I'm having a bad day, but generally it's nothing more than little bits and pieces of conversation I would otherwise have with myself. I apologize to them a lot, mostly when I take them apart to work on them, or when I'm putting them away, and I'm constrantly apologizing to my RS Bei for giving her hardly any attetion at all and not bonding with her.
Oddly enough I find it extremely creepy and cringeworthy when my mom talks to my dolls.

    17. I'm seeing everyone here saying they talk to their dolls a lot. (well, I didn't actually read all 13 pages but you know.)
So I'm wondering if I'm the odd one out here xD
I don't want to talk to my dolls, because I fear I will lose my grip on the fact that they are dolls. Also, as much as my boyfriend appreciates the looks of my dolls (he even said he wants one himself, and has a grail doll), he also thinks people who 'take it too far' are weird. With that I mean, talking to them, calling them 'daughter' and taking them everywhere on your shoulder. Stuff like that. So I guess I'm trying to avoid it to not be seen weird by the people I care about.. maybe.
I do the occassional stuff, but it's more making comments than talking, and I actually only do it when for example my boyfriend is present. (I never talk to myself anyway) And that limits itself to comments about difficulties posing or clothing, or how well a pose looks. Even if he doesn't listen, I guess those are more towards my boyfriend and my surroundings than towards my doll, otherwise I'd also do it when I'm alone..
So am I the odd one out here? What do you guys think? :O

    18. @Achetarin Nah you're not odd just do what feels right to you. To me talking to them is very therapeutic, it helps me with anxiety and to look at my negative thoughts from a distance. I tried the traditional way, I changed many therapists, went to a psychiatrist, took prescription medicines, done group therapy, but the second I would step out of their studio my anxiety would make me pay for it and drag me into a downward spiral.
Plus working on them is relaxing and distracts me.

-Warning high levels of humour ahead- oh and btw..we're all a bunch of weirdos to people who are not collectors anyway. But in my world being called weird is the best of compliments, we are amazing mythical creatures who took a stance against the boring dullness of today's world where everybody feels the need to be like everyone else.

    19. Sometimes. I generally just make comments to myself and these are somewhat directed to my cat or my bjd. depends on which one is closer to me at the time. It's not really talking to them but more like talking to myself with somewhat of a direction.

This is exactly how I feel about the situation. I don't really want to go too far with the hobby. for me its a creative outlet for my writing and crafts. Its like any other hobby I guess because its a bit of an escape from day to day life. but yeah sometimes it can be a bit much.

    20. ^ this is also very true :D. Aside from collecting figures and recently starting with dolls, I am a cosplayer. I am super quirky in general, or, 'weird'. My friends are as well, and we all call eachother weird at times, but weird in a good way. What I described earlier was weird in a bad way. It's the same word but there can be a clear difference, sadly :').. But yeah, in general, being different, or werid, however you want to call it, is not necessarily a bad thing.
