1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Tan/African American/Black BJDs - Discussion!

Dec 14, 2007

    1. callum91 Thanks! Yes...she is pretty special alright. Hope to get a camera soon.

Teff44 That sounds like a great idea. Haven't seen sholl's here in NZ for ages, but will check out one of the upmarket chemist's. I'm sure there are other foot pad brands around though.

    2. I love dark tan or black dolls, I just hate how they make the lips so large compared to the other dolls.
That is the number one annoyance of mine when it comes to these dolls.
If they can fix that and give them smaller normal sized lips then they would be uber awesome.

    3. For many black people big lips are normal sized. I like the variety.

    4. I agree with RROSS, the variety of sculpts is wonderful to see. But, I'm a fan of fuller lips. XD

    5. :xEwww no they are not, Seriously our lips may be a tad bit bigger than our pale friends, but the lips on these dolls are ridiculous:evil:
its like, they're like super poked out and just awful!
Personally, I seriously dislike all of the dark tan/black doll made by iplehouse.
No matter what you do to them, the lips will always make them look ghetto instead of elegant.:sigh

    6. I see that you are new to the board so maybe you can look around and see the different face-ups on tan dolls and maybe find something you like. A face-up makes a world of difference. I personally think that Iple has done the best with ethnic sculpts but that's my opinion.

    7. : hangs upside down behind her:
Oh nononono, I've been here for quite some time, I just signed up recently to read the tutorial threads :sneaky,
I know about the world of difference a good face up can do vs a bad one.
However that doesn't change the number of face ups for the Iple black dolls, I've been watching them since they first came out you know, and they've all had that one horrible flaw and that is those large lips.
Those lips killed every face up and made ever single doll look ghetto. :barf
well the size, the color, and the gloss blegh :barfx2

    8. I thought I'd pop back to discuss Elfdoll's June. I went through the entire ED site the other day as I was bored and discovered that originally June was meant to be released as a tan BJD. You guys probably already knew that :)

Now Elfdoll seem to be really enjoying the whole "lets make our dolls a little different this year vibe" with all the collaborations with retailers for vampires and elves. I was thinking maybe we could petition Rainman to finally make an LE Tan June or at least bring back Ruru.

      Good idea or terrible idea?

    9. I say go for it. It couldn't hurt. I don't think they will bring back tans from what I've read about the troubles they had the first go around. I hope to see more ethnic scuplts this year from all companies or at least tan options.

    10. Hmm, i think a tan June would be very elegant. The shape of her face and look lips looks like it could hold dark tones and shadows pretty well.

But hmm, I'm not a big fan of Ruru though so she can stay away >_>

    11. Tan or multiple skintone options have always been something I've thought of as great. I think June would look lovely in tanned skin. :)

    12. I won't get hard into the discussion, but being white myself, I find the ethnic sculptures of iple amazingly sexy, and their lips are a +++ for me. I happen to find the dark cocori a sexy as hell doll, not to mention than some 'white' sculptures, like CP Lishe or DT Stella have even larger lips than some of the 'black' ones. And about Kamau, for example, I not only don't find him 'ghetto' XD, but I think he looks absolutely elegant and royal, ala prince of persia! Anyways, i think I am biased because I find african and afro-american people absolutely attractive, and I perhaps don't have your perception... but somehow, dolls are always a bit more stylized than realistic. Elf sculptures have donkey-long ears a lot of time, 'asian' sculptures have diminutive noses (and I have korean friends with large and respectable noses), and 'glamour' bodies have laaaaaarge breasts X_D. It is a bit of exaggeration in their depictions, but I think it's part of the charm...

    13. I wish there was a way to have the tan option on all dolls. I have full lips so I dont mind them, because I can relate. I would love to see June as well in tan, maybe even dark tan.

    14. I'm a fan of the dark tan resin..I would love to get a dark tan Dollshe, but they are way to big.:...( <Wishlist:dark tan Saint:)>

    15. I knooow! Tan options on all dolls would be great (I'm a brown girl myself ;)) and I'd love to see Supia Rosy offered in a tan again.

I was just about to say that June could carry a dark tan really nicely.

    16. My "hubby" and I are going to get into doll-making..OwO.. pretty soon here and maybe within the year we'll have our first girl out hopefully...^u^ She may be our darker girl, but we might start with a separate girl first to get the hang of it..<333 yey! but I hope that everything goes well so that you all may have another brown girl to look forward to!

    17. Sounds awesome! I look forward to her already! :dance

    18. Frozen, that is so exciting! Keep us posted on what you guys create. :)

    19. I love darker tan dolls and as much as I really like Volks Ebony skin I don't think it's dark enough, and they have yet to release a dol in that color I LOVE. Ruby comes closest but I'm not a fan of the SD16 girl bodies. And while Irvin is pretty he's just not my thing.

I'm wishing SOOOO hard I had the money for big busted Mellow Cole from Dollmore! Despite her awkwardly sculpted mouth I think she's lovely and I'm really loving Dollmore for making the glamour bust!
