That ONE item you just about never want from a fullset

Oct 12, 2024

    1. For me it’s wigs. I have very clear ideas about how I’d like my characters hair to look and the fullset wig almost never lives up to my idea. Additionally the fullset I have bought has a disappointingly dry and crunchy wig that doesn’t look very good.

    2. A doll with eyes I can't remove. I'm 90% decided to sell a doll because I can't figure it out. (The eyes are 40% of it.)

    3. I rarely buy full sets, but I have occasionally bought some second-hand.

I think for me the biggest pain is if here's an extra head. I absolutely detest having floating heads, and I always end up buying a body. Or in the case of my Soom Trachy his "surprise head" sister is on a franken-body made out of spare Soom parts, because I could not buy a second brick red body. She does have brick red hands, and I managed to blush the top of her neck to a decent match, but otherwise she's covered chin to toes in clothing because most of the rest of her body is white skin (which is all I was able to buy second-hand). (Yes, I need to pluck up my courage and dye her!)

    4. Heads are my least favorite gift item for events. I do have a lot of cute minifee heads (back when Fairyland was more creative with their event heads) that I love, but they all were planned characters or like you said, they end up with a body which ends up being a bigger expense. Having floating heads is the worst and I would much rather buy it myself if I like it that much. For the dolls with special colors it's extra frustrating!

    5. Agreeing with everyone who’s said the wig. It’s never in the colour my character needs. I have a feeple60 Sia fullset wig on another doll because my Sia needed purple hair. I have a very large dollmore blonde wig that came with a fullset gal that I have dressed in a different wig. I seem to be collecting fullset wigs and they just sit in my wig box.

    6. The stuffed animal.

    7. Made me think of annoying Volks dolls with eyes well glued

Normally the wig of low quality....and I have to keep all the unwanted stuff to make it a "complete" set. You are right, it's true that the extra head is a pain, I insist that every head has its matching body, and if I want to keep it. I may also have to have her a makeup. That's complicated, thankfully most heads (of white or normal skin) are easy to resell

    8. It’s the wig for me too. I was excited for a wig on one and when it came I was so disappointed.

    9. I'm also on team wig I guess. :XD: I'll use hats and accessories and all the strange little things that come with fullsets but the wig? Very likely to end up being sold or given to another doll. (or stored for eternity, as is likely the fate of my Reisner's wig lmao) Generally though I don't go for fullsets, mostly because of the price. I will say the exception is my Soom Heliot, who still wears his fullset wig to this day and I just can't imagine him not being a fluffy palomino unicorn. :3nodding: Fullsets can be fun to mix and match though! If I had the funds I'd buy them more often just to do that.

    10. I'd have to agree with everyone saying pleather! I'll add on elastic in clothes too. I've only ever bought one fullset (a DD character doll) and it was pretty old (about 11 years I think? maybe more) and all the elastic holding some outfit parts together had crumbled or snapped! I had to repair what was an otherwise "new" outfit set which was not very fun.

I think if I bought a non-character fullset, it would mainly be for the outfit, so I'd probably sell the wig if it wasn't of use to me, and the eyes, since even with non-character dolls I tend to turn them into existing OCs.

Honestly, some companies have such gorgeous clothes with their fullsets, I'm often tempted to buy and split one just to keep the outfit and sell the doll (I'm looking at you, asleep eidolon!! please sell your gorgeous fullset clothes separately) but that's not really in my budget right now.

    11. I basically never buy fullsets but if I did? We are ditching the sheer number of stuff covered in huge Crosses. If I wanted a goth-evangelical/catholic doll, I'd ask for one. I really don't like how designers splash those on everything like they don't know it's a religious symbol with specific context and that it's not just a design element that looks cool. None of my dolls are Fantasy Super Vampire Fighting Catholics. Not one. (One is a vampire- and he's strictly Anglican, lol)

    12. Hats, head pieces, and the "fussy" bits.
Although my real crime is, I promptly tear full sets apart and put pieces on different dolls. Perfect example: so I just got the Ringdoll Carmilla full set outfit. She comes with some sort of head covering - that promptly went into the drawer. The waist corset was put on another doll to hide the waist band. She's also got some hair pieces that need to be wired into a wig. Can't be bothered. Also placed in a drawer.
Basically, if it falls off the doll easily (those headdress pieces are a NIGHTMARE with cats), nope. In the drawer it goes.
Also, I am the belt terminator. I destroy belts. Not intentionally, mind you. I just haven't figured out how to put them on dolls without promptly destroying them. So belts stay in their baggies, forlorn and unused.
Oh - anything held together with hot glue stays in the bag it came in. Learned that lesson the hard way after a beautiful, ornate shell headdress promptly started snowing glitter and little shell bits with the slightest amount of handling. And it promptly fell off the doll's head, so... :x

    13. My full sets, including the wigs are just stored away.

One doll I got fullset from Mint on Card as it was closing. she was in this adorable Lolita style out fit. I got her home admired her, took it off, packed it up, and changed everything about her, including the wig.

The second one was also an instock doll, but I really liked the fullset until I got it home. Fullsets can be hard to drape like the company pictures. What looked awesome and apocalyptic in the company photos looked like draped rags on my doll, his wig also just looked kind of limp and the part was messy. That outfit was also packed up.

If a company offers a wig that comes with the fullset, but you don't have to buy the fullset and can just get the wig. I have done that. But this is kind of opposite of the question asked. Because I would want the fullset wig, without the fullset. lol

    14. Ok for me weirdly it’s shoes sometimes there have been beautiful fullset outfits but the shoes have been so ugly its just thrown me off from wanting to buy the fullset :chibi

I am ok with gift heads although I don’t really want anymore floating heads… but a pet peeve of mine is when the company doesn’t actually say what the sculpt is (and its not an event specific head) I had a couple from one company that don’t have any ID markings in their heads and I’m still at a loss for what their sculpts actually are:ablink:

    15. For me when i was super active in buying it was almost the wigs. I almost NEVER like the style/color.

Coming back years later? I wish i’d gotten a few of them. They’d work for ones I was considering now.

    16. The doll.
I often see fullsets from companies whose dolls look all samey-samey and are not that appealing to me.
But the outfits and/or accessories catch my eye.
I would have to want those extras awfully bad to go through the hassle of buying the whole thing
and then reselling, but I'm not averse to looking for a split.
That's how I got my Fairyland Absolems! :)

    17. Besides pleather, those hook and thread loops used on garments are a pain to me. While I definitely prefer them to Velcro or even snaps because they make garments lay nicely flat, fastening the hook to the tread loops annoys me.

      • x 2
    18. Oh god yes. I agree on the hook and threads. They NEVER want to lay pretty. Give me tiny snaps anyday.

      • x 2
    19. So you know what I mean. Aligning the hook to catch the thread loop is difficult for me. Tiny snaps work great. Larger snaps get bulky.

    20. I have to agree with a lot of posts here

1.Pleather- down with pleather I say! I’ve lost so many beautiful outfits because they just delaminated…
2.Wigs- never the color, quality or style I like.
      3. Random colored eyes. I must have a box of random eyes that are just collecting dust lol
