That one turn-off

Aug 2, 2012

    1. For me must be facial expression...I don't think I will get any doll with big smile or crying face because it makes me difficult to plan and design the character.

    2. My biggest turn off is a doll looking to close to a barbie's looks in the face or to close of eyes.

    3. I'm not too fond of dolls with teeth (fangs or otherwise), girls whose breasts are way too big or dolls with weird expressions like a frown or their tongue sticking out or crying, etc. IH EID Arvid or Dexter, for example, look like they're angry with the world XD

    4. Eyes that are too big/too childish especially on MSDs. I tend towards the realism end of the spectrum and I couldn't fathom owning anything bigger than an MSD so big eyed childish looking MSDs really don't appeal to me. Luts is the one example that comes to mind. They're beautiful dolls but they're designed to be children/childish so anything that leans that way is an out and out NO. (Ironically originally my first doll was going to be a Luts yosd)

    5. Lazily sculpted musculature is a big turn off for me. I'd rather have a doll with no abs at all over a doll that has abs that look like the squares of a Hershey's chocolate bar.
Also, I really dislike the whole boob thing as well.
Oddly enough, oversized eyes also push me away. Now, if the doll is meant to have an anime style, I would probably think less of it, and probably like it. But if it's a semi-realistic sculpt and the size of the eyes is at least 2x greater than the mouth, I'm going to close the tab and look at a different company.

    6. The style of some face sculpts, but it's hard to describe what I'm thinking about.
I hate most fantasy themed dolls.

    7. I can't stand stand dolls with big open mouth grins. Doubly so if their eyes are squinting. Think Fairyland's Pong Pong. There's another doll that creeped me out even more but I can't remember where I saw it, just that it was on Alice Collections but by god did that doll give me the creeps.

    8. My one major thing is elbows. I HATE the general blocky look to most double jointed elbows, like on kid delfs for example. Don't get me wrong, I still love these dolls, but I cringe whenever I look at their elbows.

    9. I want to get a male doll next and the thing that turns me off is if the nose isn't high/pointy enough and if the lips are slightly opened ^^; Also, I have to get a doll with a face-up, but I don't like it when the shading on their lips is too dark and concentrated specifically on their lips.

    10. It really bothers me when dolls look sad. I find it messed up, it's like they hate me or their dollie lives......:...(

    11. I have pretty wide tastes, but there are a few things that I can't get past.

White Resin--I have exactly one white resin doll, and that shall be it for me. I just don't like it. It looks washed-out all the time.
Anime Proportions on Boys--I don't like the tiny torso/long legs combination, and have gotten rid of bodies for that reason. Oddly enough, I am absolutely fine with anime proportions on girls. Their gravity-defying boobs delight me to no end.
Mitten Hands--Another deal-breaker for me. They don't need to be long, elegant, hyper-detailed hands, but if they look like fat little chubby gloves on anyone older than a toddler, then I'm out.

Other than that, I don't have any real turn-offs.

    12. There are exceptions to all of my dislikes, especially when it comes to a beautifully customized doll that someone put a lot of effort into. Each and every sculpt can be made beautiful, in my opinion, even if I don't like the blank head/body.

With that said, here's a list of things that irk me:
      - The peanut joints in double jointed bjds
      - Painted on facial hair on male heads
      - Facial scars
      - Ballooning chest that looks like it's close to popping
      - Very pointy noses
      - Permanent scowls

Oi, I'm afraid I'm one of the picky ones as well! :)

Great thread, by the way! Very interesting and diverse opinions here! I love it!

    13. Non-removable teeth or tongue (basically sculpted in and not an additional mouth piece).
Crosseyed dolls and messy wigs (well, that is the owner's fault).
Tiny pointed noses and big hawk-like noses.
Pairings with a huge height difference.
      Too blank of an expression.
      Disproportionate ___.

    14. I'm not a fan of

Large eyes. Although I like anime and stylized eyes in art, on bjds it's a bit unsettling.
Pointy noses. I feel often pointy or thin noses don't create a good profile angle.
Large puckered lips. It reminds me of poor taste duck facing haha.
And lastly really overdone face up blushing. There's a fine line between healthy glow and possible skin issue, you know?

    15. Too short arms are a big no no for me... :| It's just so wrongly proportioned!

    16. With me it's mostly in the facial details that can turn me off, or a body that just looks too fake XD

    17. My biggest turn off is the sleeping face. Probably just me but how do you create a character if you can't look into their eyes?

    18. looks a lot like disproportion throws everyone off,
I dont like the pouty face
Im also instantly going NO in my head when the doll looks like she is made of water baloons over swolen legs, hips, or just not properly structured.

    19. Messy and tangled wigs!!!! and mouths that are too low on the faces so it looks like they don't have chins. I'm okay with rounder faces, but if they are longer more mature faces it bothers me :P

    20. And the list goes...

      - Too big breasts or too immature bodies, I mostly buy minis but I prefer those who can pass for teenagers or older. Also too many muscles on a male body.
      - The too curvy and disproportioned or too lanky ones (sorry but I really can't see the attractiveness of Doll Chateau).
      - Big round eyes, I'm more for the oval half-closed look even if I need to buy smaller eyes sometimes.
      - Double joints, they may be functional but so ugly looking.
      - Chubby fingers
      - Sculpted eyebrows... there aren't many but I did see some
      - Sleeping faces

I don't really like teeth either, but I do own a doll with teeth showing... I was looking for a specific face and he was the closest, I think I passed the teeth thing for this reason.
