That one turn-off

My biggest turn off is definitely the noses. If they're too big it's a no from me.

 

Same here! While I do care about mobility and posing, I still want the joints to have a somewhat natural appearance.

That's why I love the Volks SDC boy's body, and their SDGr boy's body. These bodies are super posable, with double knee and elbow joints, and they manage to have quite nice looking joints, even when sitting seiza!

In my book, these are two of the best jointed bodies out there, so I had high hopes when I first heard about Volks new SDM bodies.... until I saw the knee joint! Volks isn't the only company that already had perfectly good double knee and elbow joints, and then switched to the new knee joint with that lozenge shaped piece.

Why are all the doll companies suddenly so enamoured with that peanut/lozenge shaped knee joint?!?

To me, it just looks so ugly and wrong when it's bent.

I don't see that it really works any better than most of the old style double joints either.

In fact, I find that most of these new style joints are harder to manipulate. The second part of the joint often doesn't want to flex, and sometimes won't stay when you do finally get both parts flexed!

Not to mention that the knee or elbow just looks weird and really unnatural when it's bent!

I really wish the doll companies would all go back to the old style double joints, or at least offer us a choice.

 

My pet peeve is elbows too, but I like them double-jointed! I just wish more companies were able to make them work properly, especially in the ladies there seems to be a trend of useless double jointed elbows going around that is really frustrating.

 

I think it has to be noses and joints. I have seen some ski slope noses and it just ruins it for me. The joints I can be a little giving on...just depends on the doll and what clothes it has on.

 

Its all in the face for me. If a doll has a mouth that is in a strange expression or has closed eyes it is a no. I have seen some cute winking dolls but to have a doll who is always winking is not something for me either.

When it comes to bodies for the guys if they are too emaciated looking. I like skinny but not too too skinny. For girls I have this weird thing about their pelvic bones. If they are jutting out too much it is a turn off. Also the boobs where they are squashed together and too low or too high on the chest. Same thing goes for the pecs on guys. If they are too low or too high it weirds me out.

 

Weirdly uneven eyes. I don't mind a natural uneveness, it's actually welcome... but when it's really weird... then it bugs me...

 

Don't really have a lot of deal-breakers, but there are definitely a few.

- certain faceups - I'm not a fan of huge amounts of gore, scarring, or colour. I prefer more neutral tones and natural looks. Mostly.
- holes in the doll's head (more of an owner thing) - if I see a pierced anything (especially on the head), that's a nope for me
- permanent expressions - scowls, winks, grins. I like dolls that can show multiple emotions and permanent expressions sorta foil that.

 

Oh boy I have a few, but that's probably a good thing for my bank account.

-over-sized breasts, although its okay if they fall naturally. what really bugs me is when they look like they're permanently in a push-up bra, or stick straight out

-as celticlady said, i wouldnt want one with a permanent strong expression. i think its amazing how artists can make them like that though, from a sculptural perspective

 

-Eyes that are too big, and/or close together. Show me a sculpt like that, and I'm like nope.
-Non-neutral expressions. Again, nope. Nightmare fuel. Especially smiling ones.
-Balloon boobs.
-Gore mods. Also nightmare fuel.

 

- Most drop eyes, you know when it seem they are falling down in one of their sides. Just weird
- some permanent expressions, if was a faceplate I find okay but for 24/7? Not for me.
- noses and mouth formats can be deal breaker, some looks really weird.
- head and body that look like super different ages, like child face and mature body. Was it the curse of a witch? No one knows.
- super muscled body, for everything there's a limit.
- ball boobs and super huge boobs, I don't really care much for girl dolls but when I find a body like this looks so unnatural and I go no no.
- joint on the neck, it feel really weird about this one, can look too long or like it's broken.

 

I actually have one doll I love her a lot but when I got her I did not know she had it (teeth) but I don't like it when dolls have teeth or the sleepy eyes.

 

Poor quality eyelashes and crossed eyes. I've seen some dolls that look like that in the promo shots, so I don't even want to imagine what they look like in real life.

Like, I don't know how that even happens. The promo shots are supposed to look glossy and airbrushed to tempt you to buy, right? So why release photos where it looks like the doll is wearing 99cent store clumpy mascara, and nobody bothered to check which direction the eyes were looking? I don't get it!

 

I made a whole list because yes, I am very picky, even though I can see good tings in every doll.

-Emotionless faces I don´t like when the doll just seems to stare like dead into space, it somehow gives me the feelign of no character beind behidn the doll.

-Extreme permanent expression I could never imagine having a doll which keeps looking like its winking or grining, good example is Ringdoll Mona for me... ughh.

-Gnome like dolls There isnt anything to add to this I just don´t like small dolls with kinda squished looking faces and wild hair.

-Animal human hybrid dolls probably also just my taste, dont get me wrong, I love nekos, but I dont like these cat face sculpts or half dinosaur body like dolls.

-Poorly sculped abs I want nice abs and not these kinda box like things <O<

-No real body shapes As I only like male dolls it bothers me that their bodies sometimes just look way too.... straight.

-Too female looking males I dont think I am the only one who noticed that pretty often you can´t tell the difference between male and females when you look through dolls ^^°°°

-Too visible teeth see DZ Carter

-Head to big for shoulders it is still okay for me if the head is a bit bigger when it is supposed to be a childish looking doll, but sometimes I see a head just being way too big an it... just doesn´t look right.

-Baby like lips and cheeks Sometimes MSD size dolls have those lips that look just like he would be breastfed right in that moment, I don´t like these kissy lips and so I don´t like baby cheeks XD

 

Eyes that are too big and look fake. I'm not sure why I just don't really prefer them.

 

For me it's usually faceup-related. There's no specific trait that I dislike, so I base my opinion on the entire face.

False lashes that look unnatural (end with a "stub" instead of a thin point, for example) turn me off, but my biggest pet peeve and obsession are eyebrows. They can make or break a faceup.

 

I hate super big tits

 

- removable teeth
- very long nose
- eyes too far apart
- jointed neck (really weird)
- super thin lips
- removable ears/elf ears

 

I personally can't stand "basset hound eyes" where the exterior corners are FAR lower than the inner corners of the eye. It really bugs me

 

I'm an artist, so disproportionate bodies make me cringe hard.

 

I'm sort of on the edge with "pear-shaped" bodies. I think they are "cute", but some of the sculpts just really bother me so I have mixed emotions about this.
Another turn off for me is when the face of the doll literally looks like they are about to throw a tantrum and is bawling its head off. Although I do not remember the company, I DO remember that I was just like "Oh!....Wow...Okay" o.o and I kind of just sat there and looked at it for a while to make sure I was seeing it right haha. I loooovveee dolls with emotions, but the doll I saw just... wow haha.
