1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

That one turn-off

Aug 2, 2012

    1. Ones with facial expressions aren't my cup of tea, I prefer my dolls to be blank-faced, so then I can (lightly) photoshop an expression on them. Also, if they can't pose well, I won't buy it. :I

    2. I have to say that I'm not really a fan of jointed hands.
Pretty sure that's a really unpopular opinion though!

I'm not so keen on massive boobs either!

    3. My main thing is the mouth. If I don't love the mouth I cant love the doll. I can overlook a lot if I love a dolls mouth

    4. Me too! Especially if the eyes don't harmonize with the mouth it just puts me off.
Also those pointy, unrealistic boobs are a big no-no.

    5. Big balloon boobs, long pointy almost non existent noses and uber chubby cheeks. The biggest though is the boobs. I just can't do big balloons. :/

Upon reflection, I think biggest thing is size. I've noticed I can adore a sculpt, but if it's over 40cm range, I just cannot bring myself to consider the purchase.

    6. I refrain from talking about the negative experiences I've had in this hobby, but one of my biggest disappointment was when I got a Volks Miruku.
She was my grail doll only to found out her head is too small for the body she comes with. Her head just perched there on top of her neck and you can see part of the tip of the neck. I sold her within a month.

Another turn off is an overly muscular body that is not based on real anatomy study. Square waffle abs and all that...

    7. -Unrealistic breasts
-Anime-shaped eyes (especially if they have the huge breasts too... it just looks so moe...)
-Female dolls who have child-like faces and adult bodies

I think most of this has been mentioned already. Lol

    8. I know someone mentioned short arms, and yeah that bothers me SO BADLY. I like strange and exaggerated doll bodies in general but that just never will look right to me.
Chest joints where the bottom edge of the joint is the bottom curve of prominent breasts/pecs (rather than below that kinda following the shape of the ribs) are so unappealing to me, but I can't pinpoint why.

    9. I can deal with it, but a big turn off for me is (for female dolls) the torso joint being in the middle of the torso. Instead of under the breast line. I think it's because I very much like things to be aesthetically pleasing :sweat:XD:

OOH! XD @Apathy If you're (or anyone else is) looking for a mature MSD boy sculpt. Then I would strongly recommend withdoll. They don't have many boy sculpts, but the ones they do have are awesome :). Check out Ash, Rory, MAI (he's my fave), Aiden or NAI. They are also really great prices, *sigh* if only I had a younger mature male OC. :|

    10. Severely disproportionate bodies. I had a cat who birthed kitten with a malformed rib cage that was so small the kitten couldn't breathe. I had to euthanize it because there was nothing to be done. Doll Chateau reminds me of that in a traumatic way, with the ribs/chest several times smaller than the hips. I don't understand the aesthetic. And all I can think of is that poor malformed kitten.

    11. I am not trying to diss people's taste on one of the company dolls, but i tend to like the long skinny legs of doll chateau , but i tend to find their neck a little bit creepy in my perspective. Another turn off is the big unrealistic Breasts, no matter how big they are they are always perky and smooshed together and never bit saggy which in real life it;s nothing like that at all, i like having my doll to look a bit realistic in a way.

    12. Dolls that are impossible to find clothes for (like souldoll vito). Eyes too far apart. WIDE open mouths (a little bit of teeth showing is ok)
I'm not a fan of huge breasts, but if a doll is otherwise perfect I don't mind them for an adult character.

    13. My biggest turn off are:
      - facial or body features disproportionate
      - facial expressions too sad
      - big and unrealistic breasts
      - childlike faces on mature bodies

    14. It's really horrible when sculptors build up this rippling male torso... and then the arms are TUBES. No deltoid, barely any bicep, and a slight tapering toward the wrist and that's IT. AUUUUGHH. Life drawing classes for all of them until they learn about LIMBS.

    15. I have always disliked "sleepy" or "half closed" eyes on just about every doll. Sculpts that I loved instantly became "no thanks" if I saw the "dreamy" version.

      For example: Peakswood Goldie
      I adore this doll:

I have zero interest in this doll:

They look okay in pictures, but when I see them in real life they just look high to me.

    16. Strange ears, beyond elf ears. Like, I love a lot of Impl 1/4 dolls but some of them have very odd ears that completely turn me off of them.

    17. Half closed eyes are a big deal for me, I can't help it, it is the same as marked facial expressions like big smiles, extremely sad faces or open mouths, I just can't see it, how can you make a doll with that face show more than one expression? I just can't.
Also disproportionate bodies, with too big boobs, or strange proportions... they look creepy to me.

    18. I cant keep a doll if I don't like their hands. Almost all of my dolls are hybrids for that reason.

Also, like a lot of other people in this thread, I hate huge boobs. You'd think more companies would get the hint to have a small bust option!

    19. My biggest turn-off is what I call afterthought parts. Like the sculptor spent a huge amount of time on say the torso and legs, but was then like "oops it needs arms" so they made some tubes with joints and stuck them on. Though, I see this more with boobs and girl/boy bits, but some hands and feet fall into this category. Weirdly overly prominent tendons, even the skinniest people don't generally have the tendons pop at any joints other than the wrists and the tops of feet and the backs of hands, cause unless you are starving there is a layer of fat just under the skin. Pinheaded dolls, like Idelaian. I know it's more accurate to actual human proportions, but the small head on the huge neck just looks wrong. Most female head sculpts, I don't know what it is but I just can't own one. Overly smiley or pouty faces. And for clothing, boots/shoes with a taller platform/heel than I wear on my own shoes.

    20. Non natural looking resin breasts are a turnoff for me as well and MSD girls looking like little children but with the proportions of a grown woman. Bodies where the waist are quadruple the size of their shoulder with and gigantic thighs. Looks odd to me, but I get it if others like it.
Also weird me out when male bodies come with a 8 or 10 pack, like who's got that even? Also oddly proportioned bodies, be it a too tiny or too large a neck compared to the head residing on the body, weirdly sized arms, legs that look out of place. There's got to be some consistency of sorts.
