That one turn-off

One of my biggest concerns is the quality of the hands. Also I'm super picky about the size of the ball joint in the wrist and how smoothly the arm, hand, and wrist ball flow into each other with no abrupt edge/clunky looking transition.

 

Teeth
Pursed lips - they make me think of sezualized cupie dolls. ick.

 

Too much space between nose and mouth and big noses, especially in profile view.

 

Proportions and skin tone. I'm a bit OCD.

 

I don't like male hands that are too small. I like for their hands to be detailed and masculine. Dollshe and Granado have great hands!
Female hands that are meaty. I prefer delicate ballerina type hands on females.
Normal yellow skin. They are going to yellow anyway so why start out that way. However, if the company doesn't make a normal pink and I want the sculpt I will get the NY. I wish all of the companies offered NP and NY.
MSD's with childlike faces on mature bodies. Seems pornographic to me.
Huge boobs. Yuck! Unrealistic and just looks gross.
Tans that are too orange. I've never seen a human with a real tan that was orange. Fake tans, yes. Natural tans, no.
I would like to add that this is my personal opinion and everyone has different tastes. That's why this is such a great hobby. You can customize and hybridize to your hearts content to create your ideal.

 

I don't like large breasted bodies, chubby baby dolls and heads that look really weird at some angles.

 

I think the exaggerated boob thing would be number one that would be a case of me hunting for just the head if I liked it another is weird for me as I have loved anime for a while but don;t like the flat faced dolls that is probably more of a turnoff than the boobs so I guess it has reached the point of an issue, lol. I have a friend that loves them and I have to be diplomatic as I don't want to diss while at the same time I love fantasy animal people, demons and vampires!

 

I don't like too big boobs. Almost everytime when they do it, the rest of the body look too thin and not proporcional to the boobs. This makes me feel unconfortable.

Another thing I don't like it's articulated hands, in my opinion it's very creepy and not beauty

 

Like many people here I dislike:
- white dolls, they look like they've died
- teeth showing - yucky
- dolls with gore on them... It really freaks me out to see that
- male dolls with childish faces but have a "mans" body

 

Broody-looking dolls. I wish more of them looked like they're smiling. And huge lips (Doll Leaves what the heck...)

 

I don't like the big boobies, nor do I like the overly muscular male bodies. I don't like beast dolls at all either ><

 

I honestly hate with a passion when a doll has a beautifully proportioned body, only to find it has gigantic breasts that looks so fake. It just looks so unnatural to me, but to each their own! It's not my doll after all.

 

I have a couple that I haven't seen mentioned:

Resin colours that are supposed to reflect tan or darker natural skintones, but come out looking greyish, purplish, or some other shade of brown you would never see in an actual living person, or even a person wearing fake tan. (And I like grey and purple resins! Just so long as they are meant to be fantasy colours and not real human skin tones...)

Weirdly-shaped backs, especially if the body has an overall fairly realistic shape and then their lower spine seems to suddenly arch or curve inwards more sharply than it should, or they have sculpted back muscles that don't look right. I don't know what it is about the human back that I'm so picky about, especially since it can be covered with clothes, but it's a definite pet peeve!

 

Sometimes, owner pics put me off a doll but that's because they usually highlight something I don't notice in the stock photos (like the way it looks at a certain angle)

Too big of boobs is also a turn off. Like it's been said: it looks fake and just kind of weird.

Odd facial expressions (things like wide open mouths). I didn't realize the Loongsoul Yesha has like...a built-in frown in his brows (he's got a subtle, but still noticeable wrinkle between his brows) but I've managed to at least overlook that and make it work for him.

The huge wide hips cause I just feel they'd be waaaaay to hard to find clothes for.

A lot of animal dolls throw me off, too (like actual BJD dogs and cats). They just look awkward and don't move naturally.

 

For me, it's noses. I am incredibly picky about noses and if it isn't perfect I just can't bring myself to want the doll. I'm more forgiving with female faces, but for male dolls it has to be perfect, which is probably why I don't have a male BJD yet.

 

For me? Duck lips.


I can forgive a lot. I can see potential in many sculpts. But duck lips are a deal breaker.

 

Half closed eyes, I think many companies call them "daydream version". They just look super annoyed all the time to me xD I feel like I have to apologize for adopting them
That and childish 1/3 boys... Please, you're all grown up, act like that!

 

Small heads really really bother me.

 

'2 heads in body' proportions! Many dolls have this, and to me it looks awful. i like long legs but i'll never buy a body that has 3 heads instead of 4 from top to groin - it looks too unreal.
also tan skin is a big no-no: even if i found some mold that looked fine in tan, it still looked much better in normal or white.

The most popular dislikes seem to be balloon boobs and childish looking faces on "mature" dolls. I completely agree with those, then again why are these features still so common?! I see a lot of SD's with the face of an eight-year-old, and it bothers me. But it bothers me even more that the limit seems to be at around the age of 18, and you can't really find a doll that looks much older than that. What if my character is 35, 45... or in their mid 50-ies? I'm hoping one day our dolls will evolve into a wider range of ages, because it is very strange that a the word "senior" in the real world means an 80-year old, while in the bjd world it means an 18-year old.
