That one turn-off

Aug 2, 2012

    1. I'm very particular about eye shape. I like big round eyes but there are sooooo many dolls I see that have eyes so wide that they almost reach their ears. I also idslike if the eyes are too low on the face. Proportions are really important to me, in faces and bodies. I tend to go for bodies that have thin waists and larger hips, though I don't usually have a preference for bust size unless I'm shelling a specific character. As others have said, I also don't like when the boobs look squished together. So far, my favorite company for doll bodies, based solely on looks, is Dollzone.

    2. Mouths with a super exaggerated M shape. I've been seeing it everywhere lately and it always looks so unrealistic and awkward.

    3. Totally agree on the balloon boob trend! I just think they look so silly. They look painful, like if that were a real human that they would explode right off their chests. I just don't think they look realistic at all. Not that every doll is meant to look realistic obviously. Clearly some people enjoy them, which is awesome, I just wouldn't want them myself :)

    4. For me it's firstly the expression on the face. It seems that so many sculpts have sad or pouty looking faces. I want my dolls to cheer me up not make me sad. I don't like teeth either.

The face has too look good in profile as well. A lot of dolls are shown with only a frontal photo and look awesome. Then you find a user photo of a profile and see that it has a sunken chin or a giant nose or ears and it ruins the whole thing.

Also, giant breasts. They look unrealistic, makes people think that I'm a perv, and makes me feel sorry for the poor doll for having to carry those things around all the time.

    5. Dolls with huge bee stung lips! Or ones that are pouty, there are so many pouting dolls.

Also giant breasts. I'd like something in between. I remember looking at souldoll kids and the new body was either flat chested or huge boobs.

Oh sad faces. So many sad dolls, I'm probably too sensitive but it would make me sad looking at them!

    6. Mine is when eyes are too low on the face? I know this is a stylistic choice, but it's part of why I'm not fond of Resinsoul/Bobobie and older Dollzone dolls. So many of them would look so much better if only the eyes were higher.

    7. I'm with you with the giant, unrealistic, breasts. They give me the heebie jeebies :shudder

    8. I agree with op, animu fanservice boobs do not look good! like... have you ever actually seen breasts in real life? I also don't like beards. I don't know why, I just really don't like them lol

    9. It's really strange that their smaller dolls have chests that aren't like that, once you go past like 58 cm, they just forget how anatomy and gravity works. Their MSD dolls have kinda nice bodies, but I hate the whole "floating circle boobs" look

    10. I guess I have a few...

      - Dolls with child-like faces but have 6...sometimes 8-pack abs
      - Bodies which are too thin...like the shoulders are barely wider than the head (unless we're talking about fantasy creatures) and overly pronounced ribs
      - Overly pouty lips, a.k.a. duck-face (think Janice Dickinson)
      - Floater boobs on SD13-ish dolls

      And lastly, if it counts,

      - Company face up pictures that look gorgeous in promotional photos but will not look as polished IRL. That's kind of sad because people pay a lot for those with the hopes of getting the same quality

    11. Boobs with nipples that poke out too much. I have to buy lingerie for my SD girl... it's awkward to me lol.
MSDs with ginormous boobs. It just throws me off for some reason lol... I think it's because I own dolls of different sizes and I like to "age" them, and the MSDs that I own or am planning are preteen-young teen
GIANT eyes in my opinion just make the doll look alien-esque, but on some dolls it's adorable.
oddly proportioned bodies. I like the body to look realistic... sometimes people don't count in the natural curves people have in arms or legs or even torso due to natural muscle/bone structure, and sometimes the bodies are just too small for heads and make the dolls look bobble-headed lol.

    12. I personally don't like really manly dolls in any size (and the smaller they get, the weirder it gets for me). I like looking at photos, especially when they look really realistic, but I would never want to have one. I think really masculine bodies are just a little off-putting on dolls, I'm not sure why!

    13. My turn off is when a doll has a constant expression of disdain. I don't like the idea of having a miniature person who seems constantly disgusted by my presence!:? The super big breast is also a turn off for me.

    14. Dolls with really strange body proportions, like a very big head or a masculine looking sculpt on a slim body.
I once put my Switch Seseo floating head on a Volks SDGrB body (which belonged to my another doll) because it was my only NS body and I just wanted to see if they could share the same body...the outcome was horrifying (if you have seen a SDGrB body you must know how skinny it is^_^;) as they were so un-matching. I took off the head and swore I would never do it again.

    15. I hate when dolls have really long necks; it looks weird to me. I also am not fond of males dolls that have thin, muscular bodies.

    16. Boobs that are mounds of resin that dont allow a doll to balance properly, overly gapped thighs, and not being double jointed.

    17. sad faces
      little to no body diversity
      small noses
      the cost
      limbs that are thin
      realistic
      cold looking

    18. I think that the plastic boob syndrome on some female sculpts is what puts me off the most!

    19. I definitely have my pet peeves:
-Stepford Smilers: ...smiled so wide it looked like they might go for your neck; I don't mind natural smiles, smirks, and grins, but when it looks unnatural or, dare I say---maniacal, I say...I'll pass.
-Climax Mouth: to each their own, but I really don't want a doll that looks like it's having an...extreme orgasmic experience. It's even worse if their face has child-like/extremely youthful proportions. :o
-On the youthful faces subject, I agree with everyone who listed youthful heads with mature bodies. It's an off-putting look to me.
-Noodle fingers/Yaoi Hands: I like the hands to have some realism to them, and that includes being proportionate.
-The Anime Look: I reserve this aesthetic to my Pullip collection. The big-eyed, small round headed, small nose and mouth look just doesn't appeal to me (It especially bugs me when the sculpt is trying for some realism, but has all the trademarks of an anime face, like Fairyland for example)
-Like a lot of others posted, unrealistic proportions, be it too long/short legs/arms, too big/small hands/feet, unnatural looking noses, unrealistic anatomy in general (especially in the nethers)
-Barbie Syndrome: unless it's an art doll, unrealistic shaped/sized boobs, hips, under-sculpted anatomy and lacking anatomical gender aesthetics (Ken Syndrome for the boys here) bother me.
-bodies that have a lack of poseabilty, and companies notorious for having defects crop up in their bodies (breaks, posing issues, defects in the resin, etc). I don't want buying a body to be some sort of crap-shoot where there's a 50/50 chance of the body being perfect from the company or coming to me with issues. I don't mind minor order mix-ups, but those other things are a major turn-off to me, even if the dolls the companies produce are otherwise gorgeous. I'm not paying a large sum of money for a possibly defective doll, thank you very much.:|

    20. Combination of childlike face and adult body.
Thin body with big boobs or huge abs.
      Long neck.
