That one turn-off

Aug 2, 2012

    1. I SECOND THIS. Nothing irks me more than GIANT boobs that look like they're filled with helium and sitting below a doll's chin...:sweat For me it would have to be that or dolls with suuuuper realistic face sculpts...Ringdoll Mona's for example scare the crap out of me...

    2. Not a shallow concept, I don't think. It's not so much a bias toward one look or another, but it's how the doll's joints and parts are crafted. There are particular ankles or wrists that turn out or are bulky and that can turn me off a doll's body, even if the head caught my fancy. I'll usually turn away entirely from the whole thing.
Some times a sculpt is strangely shaped or bland and that turns me off, I find the idea of detail sculpt to be very attractive, and I certainly don't necessarily want to put so much money into something that's just a flat plain of resin.

    3. Bad posing. I want to take oodles of pictures of my dolls, and if they can't cover a wide range of montion then all the pictures start to look the same.

    4. my doll "turnoffs"
      1. unrealistic boobs. If they look like someone took basketballs and smooshed them under their skin, it freaks me out. Also when the boobs look like two teeny tiny grapes. it bugs me.
      2. I hope nobody is offended by this, but I don't like dolls with really deep, or realistic "lady parts" it makes me anxious seeing dolls that are like that. I also don't like boy dolls with jointed "boy bits" or if their parts are very realistic
      3. Gore. I don't like dolls with bloody scars (healed ones are okay) or any sort of gore.
      4. really long necks. I just can't.
      5. dolls that are so skinny you can see their bones and ribs, and they look like they have been starved.
      6. sad looking dolls.

haha theres more but I'll stop there.

    5. I'm not a big fan of closed eyes. And if a seller is rude or won't answer questions I'll pass.

    6. Moeblobs

      • x 2
    7. Upper torso pieces that connect at the breasts of female dolls. (Like a minifee sculpt) There's just something about it that's super unappealing to me that I can't explain. I also dont like super small pointy noses

    8. I don't like dolls that look like they're angry or frowny. It's like I owe him a million bucks lol
Also not fond of narrow shoulders, guys should have broad shoulders :love

    9. I can't stand dolls with too big boobs either. They just look so plastic and I hate that kind of look. I prefer the more natural dolls even if that means that the boobs are smaller or almost none existent.
I also don't like dolls with really sharp features. Dolls with soft looking face have this innocence to me which I really liek. You can also do a lot more stuff with the face up of the doll if the Skulptur is rather soft and not so sharp.

    10. Plain looking bodies ... I find it hard to actually buy girl dolls for that, the "usual" female body always turn me off (luckily enough there are more and more compagnies and artists sulpting other kind of bodies)
Sharp features I like but only if I'm not the one doing the make up xD

    11. 1. Lack of genital detailing. It's not a turn off to the point I'd turn down a doll but I really prefer sculpted out genitalia on both girl and boy dolls unless they are younger appearing.
      2. Not properly fleshed out and shaped nipples/lack there of. Again, I like realism in my dolls and I'm a little upset if the chest lacks a defined nipple.
      3. Flat chested female dolls 1/4 or larger. I just don't like small chests on my dolls. I'm sad that most companies either have completely flat chest or a GIANT chest. If I want a small bust I don't want it to be non existant. I like giant chests but for a character I want a smaller chest for I also don't want something akin to a traditionally male chest.
      4. Single jointed bodies. I'm sad because a doll on my wish doesn't come with a double jointed body but it just seems like the way the industry is going, so single jointed bodies feel behind the times.
      5. Sharp noses. I like masculine and hard dolls but..I hate sharp noses. I'm such a snob about the noses I like. I prefer large, prominent but ROUNDED noses that fill up more of the face but are less pointed in that sense.
      6. Anything to pretty. I like something to be odd about the doll that takes away from it being too classically pretty. Odd lips, dropping eyes, strange chin shape...all of those little details make it special.
      7. Asymmetry. Ooooo I hate if a doll lacks symmetry in the sculpt.

    12. I agree with the issue with big breasts on a doll. Its very hard to make them look realistic and good. Most look like two balloons pressed together. I have seen large breasts that look good, but very rarely.

    13. Im not usually too picky.... but I can't stand puppet mouth. I hate puppet mouth. Nothing needs those two lines of flappy, gawky, jabberjaw definition.... NOTHING. So yeh, that puppet sculpt is the worst XD

    14. For me it is dolls with faces that portray negative emotions, scowling, sad or sullen, and then outright gore-themed dolls. I almost always want my own dolls to have upbeat, happy or at least pleasantly neutral expressions (with a couple of faceplate exceptions). That said, I'm very glad there is a wider range of different emotions being portrayed in doll sculpts because for others, those face sculpts really suit their characters. Just because I don't want a particular doll in my own collection, that doesn't mean I don't like it at all. I really like Ringdoll Mona and loved the GloryDolls with stitches, for example, but I can't imagine owning them.

    15. What do you know, 5 years later in the hobby and my old turn offs are no longer my turn offs. I think I've learned to appreciate more of the extremities of the hobbies. Now I'm sitting here thinking "why did these ever bother me to begin with?".

Now my turn offs are small things like "oddly shaped eyewells". It bothers me to no ends when my doll's eyes, no matter what shape or dome, always gap. Also I found that I dislike completely smooth resin. I prefer a bit of tooth on my dolls because I like texture. But nothing can top what i have found to be the greatest hindrance of my hobby days: SOOM's Little Gem elbow and knee joint pieces. All they do is pop out and make the doll's arms and legs buckle. They serve no functional purpose and even hot glue sueding them does nothing. I will never buy another doll body that has anything remotely similar to those little nubbins.

    16. My turn offs starting at the biggest and with the face -
      • 1. Wide open mouths.
        • Which I find incredibly creepy. Like horror movie, straight in the uncanny valley levels of creepy.
      • 2. Extremely Prominent facial expressions especially negative ones (pouting, scowling, frowning).
        • I find the doll becomes much less expressive when they have set in stone faces.
        • I also just prefer my dolls to have an air of lazy or quiet contentment.
      • 3. Disproportionately long limbs. Necks included
        • They remind me a little too much of slender man when thats the case. Not to mention this is once again horror movie levels of creepy.
      • 4. Too much boobage.
        • I like flexibility with my dolls. I don't want them to constantly be spilling out of their clothes.
      • 5. Very narrow/closed eyes
        • Compared to the others this is fairly minor. I'm just not fond of the look f closed eyes and I always get the impression that I'm being scrutinized by a doll with narrowed ones.

    17. I dislike dolls with "bored" faces. Most of the dolls I see look so tired or stone faced, even with faceups. A LOT of yosd sized dolls are guilty of this to me. It doesn't feel full of life. I dislike it when they have wide heads, or no chin, or their eyes are too close together. I like pretty dolls, honestly. Ones with attractive features. I also dislike when a doll's nose is shaped like a big dorito. Noses are more than triangles.

I think large breasts are lovely, I just wish the nipples on resin dolls were more proportional. They're always so small, like tic tacs on melons. ^^; Alternately, I wish super flat chests were more common, and the distribution of fat looked more natural. The DD SS chest is lovely!

Last, I dislike bodies that don't have ankle joints. I like the articulation.

    18. Facial proportions. I dunno, sometimes they look just "off" Maybe it could also be due to the face up?

    19. -this seems to be a common one but almost comical big breasts. also really detailed genitalia. personally just makes me uncomfortable? like with DC's adult male sculpts (maybe it’s just the older body) that have jointed dongs, I don’t know if maybe they could be removed?
-closed eyes. I know you can mod heads to open eyes but I’d have to really been in love with the sculpt
-really puffy cheeks on mature sculpts. some kid sculpts it looks really sweet on but other than that it kinda looks weird
      - kid sculpts that don’t have jointed torsos. The only 1/6 body that I’ve found that doesn’t have a jointed torso is Maskcat’s kid body, it’s just too cute

    20. I hate when the body is less detailed than the face.
