1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

That one turn-off

Aug 2, 2012

    1. -same face syndrome (e.i. AS, AE, Fairyland sorry)
-expressionless sculpts (not matter how you do the faceup, I'm outtie)
-"piano" hands: where the doll has piano hands positions but their promo pictures are like vampires or centaurs and doesn't include a picture of them playing piano omg

    2. I have to agree with the giant boobs thing... It's an immediate turn-off for me. Even when I really like everything else about a doll. I don't know why, but they just never look "right" to me. But everyone likes different things.

    3. My biggest turn-off is overly sweet, generic face sculpts. Don't get me wrong, some sculpts are SO beautiful, but they simply don't hold my interest. It gets to the point that many start to look the same to me. Also, very, very large busts.

    4. Very thin and small nose except on anime style dolls and i am not like weak chin on boy and girl dolls

    5. When a doll is offered in only normal or white.

    6. Hmmm, my biggest turn off would be head sculpts that are just....plain. When they're so similar to each other that you can't tell them apart unless you're a diehard, life-long loyalty kinda fan. I don't know, I mostly have this issue with Minifees, they all look the same and most seem to have the same faceups in different colors and it's just......boring, to me at least. They look TOO put together, TOO perfect, and it ultimately comes off as bland to me. Another thing, that isn't really a turn off but is something that really does make it harder for me to want to buy a doll, is if the company doesn't offer tan when I want tan for the doll. For instance, I want an Only Kids Loong Dragon who's supposed to be Arab, but the company doesn't offer any tan resin colors whatsoever. So, I'll have to get him in white, and dye him. I HATE the thought of dyeing dolls, but so far I've got like 3-4 on my wishlist I'm going to have to dye or change the color of, it's annoying and it makes me not want to go for these dolls sometimes.

    7. Not being able to stand on own. I don't expect them to stand long or super solid, but I don't want to have to use a stand just for a photo of a new pair of jeans.

    8. I generally don't like dolls with lots of teeth showing. In real life I love seeing people's teeth when they smile, but on dolls it just doesn't look quite right.

    9. personally don't like dolls with wide eyes, or if they don't have a variety of skin colors

    10. bjd with mouth open/teeth exposed

    11. I don't like it when doll makers who do not have a clothing line create bodies are so disproportionate to all other dolls that you can't find a single thing to fit them. I'm no seamstress, so I need at least a little off-the-rack apparel for my crew. :sweat

    12. I'm with the "dolls with teeth" crowd. I love Minifee Celine, but her teeth showing throws me off (so if I need a Celine in my life, I'm just going to get a Chloe and mod her eyes to be more open). I've even seen dolls that are full out laughing or smiling so wide you can see more than just the front teeth, and those ones creep me out.

Also, for some reason, dolls with anime eyes kind of freak me out. Which is strange, cause I love anime and manga, but those dolls just unnerve me.

And then, every now and then, a doll with a smile will turn me off, too. I prefer more neutral/solemn expressions.

    13. Personally I have a few, more recently I have seen these dolls, not sure what company, but the faces are...rather...well to me it looks like a face someone makes in an adult video. They have their tongues out and their mouths open while looking teary eyed or wincing. Like a yawn face. I don't have anything towards the dolls, i just can't find anything appealing about a doll looking like she was made to be put in a dirty film.
Another is dolls with face ups and tattoos/markings that get so heavy, intense and convoluted that you can't even make out the doll's sculpt anymore. Don't get me wrong full designed dolls are beautiful, i am just put off by the ones that look so heavily designed that it becomes a clustered ugly mess, with layer after layer of paint and face up added.

    14. I like a variety of styles, but my one big turn-off is huge and/or heavily sculpted lips. Some dolls kind of look like they have a cupid's bow on both the top and bottom lip, like a four-leaf clover sort of shape. Or their top lip has such a severe cupid's bow, it's more zig-zaggy than Wario's mustache.

I used to really dislike dolls with teeth, but I've changed my mind about that in recent years.

    15. As some others have mentioned:

      gigantic breasts
      squeezed together breasts
      too large lips
      super-red lipstick

    16. There are time I'll be drooling over a doll or some well-made clothes, mentally listing the things I want to get, budgeting accordingly...

Then I see the website doesn't have a security symbol. Which is most of the doll shops I encounter. >_<

    17. I too, really dislike the girly effeminate heads on male muscular bodies. I am always on the lookout for a male head that is actually masculine. I want to see a strong jawline, but those don't seem to exist.

    18. I have no problem with feminine heads on male bodies in general, pretty boys are nice to look at, but yes, the bit that peeves me is when their heads do not match their bodies at all. Hormone levels vary from person to person but the amounts you need for a certain body type should also influence the face, and in live humans it almost always does. Fat distribution and bone structure, proportions and shapes, are heavily dictated by various hormones, so there's certain face types you generally do not get with certain bodies- the entire body is connected to the head.
