1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The endless craving for a "new" BJD

Jun 23, 2015

    1. Heh I always get impatient during the wait and then start browsing the 2nd hand marketplace... -_- not a good idea. Before I realize it I have multiple incoming dolls. And that while most of my current ones are in fact still naked.

I gave myself the new rule: only new dolls once each of them has at least one outfit.

    2. I had that itch earlier this year and currently have two dolls on layaway (one part of an ongoing addiction to a particular sculpt and one grail girl who just simply didn't exist anywhere until recently). There are 4 more dolls on my list which I plan to bring home next year, but I am not in any rush at present as only one of them is an LE. Thankfully I sew and make new items from my dolls and I have designs ready for the incoming girls too! The only thing I am short on is wigs and eyes.

I did have a few basic dolls which have been around for ages on my list but after having wiped them off the craving has subsided substantially!

    3. This is pretty much the same for me. I don't really want dolls unless I have a specific plan for them. I don't really care all that much about LEs and I rarely purchase a doll based solely on the fact that it's pretty. I do look at dolls I find handsome/pretty/interesting and think "Oh, I'd like one" but that's about as far as I get most of the time. I may like a doll but not seriously want it, and I'd say I'm far from craving new resin all the time.

I have almost all the dolls I want. There are just two left on my 'must-have' wish list and maybe one or two on my "maybe someday" list, but that's about it.

    4. I am glad that I have not had that urge. Always wanting "new new new" makes me feel stressed and ultimately dissatisfied. I couldn't justify a constant stream of doll purchases, and I'm not sure doing so would really be the best option for me, anyway.

    5. I suffer from this. Every time I think I'm done, something fabulous comes out and I'm either upgrading bodies or adding to the crew I swore was finished.

    6. If I had this rule, I would have no dolls.

    7. I've had the 'need for a new doll' so bad for the longest while - so gave in yesterday and ordered three.

    8. I know the craving feeling, but rarely feel it anymore. Nowadays I think I feel it more with furniture and eyes than with dolls.

    9. After purchasing three dolls in under 6 months, I think I'm going to be fine for a long while. I honestly don't even have anywhere to put more dollies.
There are still dolls on my wishlist that I'd LOVE to have, but I'm going to save up my money for the time being.

    10. I'm good, actually. I don't have the urge to get another doll, and I haven't felt like this since I joined the hobby. I can definitely relate to continually wanting a new BJD, but I've come to a sense of completion and I'm really happy with what I have.

    11. I'm so happy with the dolls I have. I think all 6 of them are super great and to me that is a sizeable collection. I'm really enjoying spending my hobby money on doll shoes ( i love doll shoes!) and accessories and neat little props instead of feeling compelled to figure out how to save up for another doll. There are two more dolls I'd really like to have before I completely finish buying dolls, but I feel no sense of urgency about it at all. Maybe in another year or two. For now I am loving not even thinking about any new resin purchases. It's awesome to just have fun with the dolls I own.

    12. The only craving I have is to finish shelling all my characters, plus of course getting all the props I need. I have a list....

    13. I'm *constantly* craving more and more dolls, I just want soooo many!! I haven't even finished my own dolls yet, but I'm always looking for new dolls to add to my family!

    14. Fortunately that I don't have the urge to get more dolls lately. Now I concentrate only on making clothes and taking photos for my dolls and I don't find any new interesting sculpts from companies these days, so I'm safe! :)

    15. I don't, really. I'm so happy with my girl that I don't feel the need to buy any dolls, I just want to buy clothes, wigs, shoes, eyes, etc for her.

    16. I often have the urge to buy a new doll, especially when I have a bit of money to spend! At the moment, though, most of the things on my wish list are "maybes" or don't exist (yet). I've contemplated buying some duplicate sculpts because at least I know I like them? lol But this time I bought a bunch of wigs instead. :D

    17. This is my first year in the hobby and I want all of them!

    18. There was a point in where I couldn't resist the pull of a new face. If it was a new volks limited, my heart would start to pound even before I clicked the link to sneak images. I think it's that way for many new releases from your favorite companies.

Now that I seemed to have "settled", my dolls have stopped switching shells and I have brought/sold dolls, the allure of getting new dolls has diminished for me. Sometimes, I will see a new face in the "company announcements" section and get that 'Love at First sight' feeling again. sometimes I act on it, then regret it when the doll arrives to me.
I am still learning I guess. :sweat

    19. My lure are doll chateau ! I have one doll leaf complete doll bought second hand and one DC 72cm new body, who has no head yet.

    20. Earlier on when I had so many characters I wanted to embody in doll form, back when I still lived with my parents and had extra money? YEAH, that craving was real. I avoided applying for a credit card for the longest while. I was never irresponsible with money but then I had never fallen in love with a hobby as expensive as this before, and I thought...did I really want to find out the hard way? I don't feel that urge as badly anymore now, even when there are still other dolls on my wishlist. But I definitely remember how it was like.
