Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. The Nameless Doll: Troubles naming dolls.

Jan 19, 2010

    1. Also I feel that I get accused of copying if I call my doll a name that is popular like "Comet" or "Sugar"

    2. this ticks me off... it's no one else's business what you name your doll... it's YOUR doll. Can you imagine if humans got that messed up idea... I have a cousin.... and we have the same name... who cares! I have an uncle and a cousin (they are roughly the same age and grew up fairly close to each other... both named Ralph.
If you like the name and it suits the doll... USE IT People do not own 'given' names... George Foreman (the boxer) has five sons... ALL named George... even one of his daughters is named Georgette...
Use the name you want... it is what will make you happy... being in the hobby is not to make others happy with your choices... only ones you need to please... are the dolls ;p

    3. Im in the process of purchasing my first doll. She's a second hand Elfdoll smiling Soah, and the only name that comes to mind is.....Soah,... I'm so lame, I'm terrible with naming things in general. Her name will probably end up sounding close to Soah.

    4. It took me 2 weeks, maybe a little more, to name my current boy Vanilla. He's a Zaoll luv. I wanted the perfect name for him, and went over dozen's in my head, and even asked what people thought. Finally Vanilla stuck, nilla or Van for short. I always love sweet cutesie names, but like @Sebbyd said I'd feel like someone would accuse me of copying over super popular doll's names. I know its stupid to think that way, but I just do.
My next doll I just purchase and I am waiting on(they shipped Im so happy) is a Switch Yiho in normal skin, and I have absolutely no idea what to name them. I want to keep with the cute food idea, but I'm not sure where to go with them since I have no idea what I want to do besides cute clothes, pastels, and maybe gothic fair idk.

    5. I like writing and have such a hard time naming characters, but with dolls a name always just seems to come to me. Majority of the dolls I plan on getting already have names. When I can't think of a name I normally just plan their outfit or personality first and try to find a good name from that.

    6. Good idea about the outfit and personality, might try that out. I have outfit planned but personality not so much

    7. I only have one doll, and I planned out possible names while I was waiting (so like a month). I had settled on Charlotte but turns out, when I got her, I decided to totally change it! She's Flynn now :D

    8. I had a character I wrote for literally months. I invented her more than eight months ago, and she got a name maybe one month ago. I knew everything about her: what she feared, what she wanted, an elaborate backstory, I even knew that she obsessively wears a beat-up blue leather jacket before she gave me a name. It's a Struggle.

    9. When I first started collecting I spent a lot of time figuring out the name of my doll and designing his story; which spawned the stories of my core group. But since completing that group; finding names don't come as easily. In fact most of my recent dolls only have their sculpt name. My dolls will "tell me their names" they want to be called something other than what the sculptor named it. I'd like to think that the artists have breathed so much live and love into their sculpts that my dolls refuse to be called by anything else and are staying quiet;)

    10. Names are definitely hard to come up with for me too, when it comes to anything. I always like them to stand out, as well as fit the personality or image I like looking for. I try to read a lot, from fiction to baby name books until I find something that's just right. I definitely agree with planning out their personality and fashion sense as part of the process.

    11. I usually have a small group of names I like that I'll go through when getting a new doll, I actually have a couple names that I have in mind for baby names that I absolutely love that I'll probably give my dolls once they're all here and finished...and eventually when I have kids too lol

    12. It took me a REALLY long time to name my first doll, around half a year actually, and my other ones still don't have names, but they are newer.. I generally just accumulate a list of names I like and use one of them if it fits haha!

    13. I had a nameless one for a long while. A friend who makes clothes kept asking me about what 'fox child' (the doll happens to be a Soom Feny surprised head) would wear and well the nickname stuck. So she's now FoxChild, FC for short.

    14. I started naming my dolls with things related to the sea, then ran out and used towns I go near the sea! Then I just started finding unique names after I ran out of the ocean type names. I still have a few with no names.... Not sure why, maybe they aren't staying perhaps?

    15. nah... some are just stubborn about sharing.

    16. I'm completely in the minority, as I haven't renamed any of my dolls. I'm not sure why, but once I see the doll and the names of the sculpts themselves, it really sticks for me. (Lydia, Karsh, Brianna, Bory, to name a few.) Once I have the doll in my possession, she/he just "looks" like the sculpt name, so I leave it. Now with that said I am new to the hobby, and I don't do the character thing, so maybe that is why the name of the doll is less important than me getting to admire and talk to them every day. They make me happy. :)

    17. I have 8 dolls and 2 floating heads, none of them have a name. Shame on me... I gave some of them ridiculous nicknames, but that's it. I hate choosing names :(

    18. lucky i only collect dollfie dream based on anime character so i dont have to give they name since they all come with one :p

    19. My doll came with her name. She was an x-mas gift from my older sisters who had called her Olive.

I didn't hate the name but I felt like I had to rename her something different or else she wasn't mine. Like a personal factor was missing. We were refacing her, so I figured I'd wait until after that to see what comes naturally.

I picked a light faun themed face, and in the middle of showing me how to face her up [Olive is my first doll] I stopped her and made the joke 'Olive the other reindeer.' The shoe just kind of fit after that.

    20. So far it seems that I can't name them until they've got hair on. Something about them being properly "finished". Until then they just get referred to by the sculpt name. (The exception being one I'm getting for a character - I'm hoping that she works, and am already referring to her by the character name. If she doesn't work for the character I'll go back to using the sculpt name until something else fits.)
