It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

The Nameless Doll: Troubles naming dolls.

Jan 19, 2010

    1. I got one right now. His name used to be "Erwan" (Breton for "hunter") but that name just doesn't suit him anymore. So now I'm looking for something else. So far he hasn't "told" me his name.

    2. I don't know for sure, but I think I would have a hard time bonding with a doll I didn't name. I'm the kind of person that names everything though, like my car, my laptop (well, the things I really care about if that makes sense) and I sort of tend to anthropomorphize inanimate objects so - pretty much I sort of just have a name pop into mind and then it's very hard for me to change it.

    3. I've already got a name for my doll and I haven't even bought her yet. I kind of feel like I wouldn't be able to buy a doll unless I haven't made a character for him/her yet...idk it would be hard for me to bond with said doll if I didn't name them: like dreedree said.

    4. I had a really hard time with an elf doll once. I ended up going to Google and searching for a list of elf names. It was very helpful. I saw so many names I never would have thought of before :)

    5. i usually just call my dolls by their sculpt names.
unless it's something really hard to pronounce, then i'll name them something else.

    6. My four dolls...poor dolls...have no names either. And I've had them all for at least 4 years. They get called baby their sculpt for now. BUT. The dolls I'm saving for already have names. XD So ones I don't have have names, the ones I don't have do. It's odd. But I've still bonded with them anyway. I will name them one day.

    7. For my boy, originally I named him after a character I already had in mind, but then two years later I decided it no longer fit and renamed him. I would not be too worried about messing it up somehow. You could just try on different names that you like and see what seems to go with their personality. If it doesn’t work out, nothing is there to say you’re stuck with it. You might try looking online on a baby naming site for names and their meanings to get ideas.

    8. Yeah... none of my ladies have names right now. I'm sure they'll come to me eventually.

    9. I have one without a name. I was able to win a gray Hujoo Phoebe in a contest, so she wasn't really anticipated. (Was not expecting to win)

I wasn't planning on getting any girls, so I don't have any girl names. She's adorable and it's only been a few days, hopefully she'll get a name soon!

    10. I was going to wait until my new girl got here before naming her... I wanted to have something to do with Aviation since her character is a frilly girl obsessed with planes and all things mechanical.... But there was no good names that related to Air, or Flight or Wind.... So I went with Avery... It sounds cute. I just want her home already!

    11. Actually, an aviary (which I've heard pronounced both "avery" and "a-vee-air-ree") is a flight cage for birds (as in big enough to fly around in,) so it is kind of related. And it's a great name. :)"

I had Rhiannon picked out for an incoming doll - until she arrived and informed me that her name was Fiona, thank you very much.

    12. One of them (my first), I knew her name from the moment I saw her picture on the Dollmore website. She's always been Lilith to me, she never wanted anything different. Ysandre too, when I saw her on the Luts website and I knew she was a match for my other SD elf (Tristan, who introduced himself to me after he arrived). The play on their names amused me and I always liked the name Ysandre after I saw it in Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel" novels.

Pretty much everyone else was named after they got home, about half of them courtesy of my friends and family (Achmed, Mikael, Keith, Loki). Ramsay knew who he was before he got here, he just needed to tell me how he wanted to be addressed. I knew he was a Pharaoh, I just didn't know what name he'd want to use, lol. Amber was the odd duck out - she named herself after she got here, but she sat on my lap as we looked at various baby names before she told me who she was. Nobody else (yet!) has needed that. Now I'm wondering who my new girl will be, she hasn't told me yet...

On the other hand, I know a doll's name but I don't know yet what she looks like. I'll know her when I see her but for now, she's just a name without a face. I don't even know what size she is... just who.

    13. Owo Well that just works out perfect then. I just need to wait for her to get here before I can make her tiny pilot garb.

    14. I didn't really understand before what others meant when they said the doll would "tell" you it's name, until I got my first one a few weeks ago. My Pukifee's name is Mie. I had so many other names in mind, but once "Mie" randomly popped into my mind it just stuck. I don't even want that name, but no matter how many times I try to change it, it always gets back to that. So I guess she "told" me what her name was, and I'll just have to leave it at that.

    15. I bought my Miho boy years ago for a character and found out it didn't suit him at all. I fell out of the hobby for a few years and when I took him out of the box to sell in the marketplace I decided to try a new face up, eyes, wig and clothes before I let him go. I ended up getting attached and keeping him but I'm not sure what his new name is. This might end up to be a case of the doll coming before the character does.

    16. I have too many names I dont know which one would suit them best ah, the struggle.

    17. This is a good one.

My first BJD was a surprise gift from my husband and I literally did not know what to do with her in terms of naming and what character she should be. I spent a few months just playing with her and mulling over names that I thought would fit her, but she had a mind of her own and every time I found a good name for her...it was rejected. Finally I named her an old old old username that I was always constantly using in my earlier MMORPG days and it stuck.

    18. I'm usually pretty good with names, but it took me just over a month to name my first BJD. He literally only had a name two days before he arrived.

I'm getting better at it, though; the next doll I'm saving up for already has a name!

    19. Each one of my dolls took a seemingly long time to be named. The new little fellow who arrived for Christmas is nameless so far, but it will happen. After all, our firstborn son didn't have a name when he arrived either!

    20. The first one took me 3 days since I received him, but I had vague idea what his name would look like before he came. The second one took me around a week to consider any wonderful name for him, so he had name when he come home and the third one made me so indecisive because he had elf ears so I kept switching his name and until now I'm still undecided which name would go for him T-T (luckily he is not home yet) and the fourth one is otw home it is shipped on 31 december 2014 -_-; and I just found his name last night ; w ; the fiftth one I don't know what name would go for him..maybe someday I'll found him a nice name, the sixth one though quite strange since I got his name before the fourth one got name -_-; and the most strangest part is...I got a name, character, etc for the sculpt I want this year and I don't even buy him yet :sweat
