1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. The Nameless Doll: Troubles naming dolls.

Jan 19, 2010

    1. Some come a lot quicker than others for me. I've had a couple that come to me in dreams, some just stick right out of the box. I've had a couple come to me second hand with names and they told me they wanted different names. New home, new identity I guess.

    2. I've actually got a stable of names I've already thought up, and I try to shell my characters if the sculpt fits. Usually it does, but on the off occasion that it doesn't, I'd just wait until a suitable name pops up in my mind.

    3. I always have troubles naming my dolls. One of them lives nameless more than a year, i still refer to him as "dude":) He gave me several hints that his name should be Raphael but I still don't like it:) The girl I'm waiting for already has a name because she should be a definite character, but others who can have any personality, are pretty hard to name.

    4. Names for my dolls are always formed by themselves

    5. I have struggled with naming my Doll Leaves Kiki over the last couple years, I keep changing in because I haven;t liked it after a while. I thinking now Natsume but his previous names were Takashi and Yoseob.
Anyone else struggle with naming yours?

    6. My second doll, a Dpllmore Banji Emoji, was originally named Nita. Despite traveling to Europe with her, I had trouble bonding with her, and renamed her Sparrow. It suits her better, but I'm still having trouble connecting to her the way I have with my first and newer ones. Yumiko was "the new girl" until I bought her a wig that matched her. I'm now debating if Yin needs a different name, as its Chinese and she so isn't.

    7. Oh my! There must be something about Doll Leaves, because I am having the hardest time naming my Doll Leaves Bailey. I've been waffling with different names since she arrived last August.

    8. For me, naming a doll is very difficult as I don't know which name is suitable for him or her...
I don't prefer using regular or generic names to call my dolls like Peter, Jason, Mary, Scarlet, etc...
That's why I simply use their own default names which are set by their default companies...^^

    9. Is that a good thing? lol.

    10. It comes pretty easily to me most of the time, but my dolls are also my roleplay characters, so they usually already have a fitting name before I buy the doll. I like normal human names, so choosing from baby name websites is usually how I go about it when creating a new character, or naming a surprise doll (gift, impulse, event head). If I regret a name after bonding to the character, it just sticks anyway. Usually it's a middle name or last name I end up not liking much, so it's not that big of a deal, but I just think of it like having that one friend or relative you love, but you always think you could have named them better than their own parents did. :XD:

    11. It's so weird for me, because some of my dolls just sort of slip comfortably into their names (I just start calling them that one day) and some I have to scour name lists for. Some of my dolls I've had to have literally in front of me/in my hands to name/find a character for, and others I have a name for before even ordering them. It really depends, and I think when you find that right name it just sticks.โ€‹

    12. I have had my doll Pandora for 4 years and I think I have finally come to terms with the fact I misnamed her, I don't feel like it fits her anymore. She is an Angel Fantasy Alice and to be honest I wanted to call her Alice but I wanted to be more original than keeping the sculpt name. Now I'm thinking of changing her name to Clara. I don't mind suggestions if anyone wants to suggest a name.

    13. Nothing wrong with keeping the sculpt's name if it suits. My Volks Rose is named Rose because it just fits her so perfectly. I've had trouble naming a few dolls, but their names usually come to me pretty quickly. Think about your doll's character (if it has one). What time period are they from? What's their ethnic background? Do they have a dark, brooding personality or are they a little ray of sunshine? There are lots of baby name, elf name, cat name, even dragon name web sites to check out. Finding the right name is part of the fun, and if you love your doll don't stress if you can't name it right away. It doesn't mean you're not bonding.

    14. I guess I'm really lucky, because I've been able to name my dolls. I've only changed the name of one of them. Half the time I pick names in advance, half the time I name them when they arrive. I named Amiga when she arrived, but I planned Comrade's name in advance to go with Amiga's.

    15. i like clara ^^ but like renee said, nothing wrong with keeping the sculpts name :)

    16. Oh, man, this is my personal weakness. I have five dolls, plus an off-topic DZ, and three little off-topic dolls. I got the first one in October/November. I would just call them their sculpt name, but that won't work either. The three littles have non-pleasing flower names, the DZ name I don't like, and my MSD is a Winter Event head. I can't go around calling her Event head. Lol, I really need to sit down and figure out some names.

    17. I never have a name when I buy a new doll. The name just comes to mind after a while and it just fits. It can be days or sometimes months before I have a name that just clicks and sticks with them.

    18. I have terrible naming skills :lol: It took me 2 weeks to decide on a first name for my first doll and I can't even think of a surname for him or any of my other dolls, but that one name ended up giving birth to more names and now my wallet is crying with my BJD plans. ;___;

    19. All the dolls that I have or am really serious about getting are parts of one ongoing storyline or another that I've been working on for years and so most of them have names. So far all the dolls I've actually acquired had names before they arrived. Like yumi~ said way back on the first page "For me, no name = no bonding." That is so true for me too.

I always say that I can't even talk to a character until I name them. Even if it is a temporary name that is just good enough for now. I almost think of it as that thing in a lot of fantasy stories that if you know a person's true name you have power over them, but in a less sinister way =P.

Right now I'm actually having a hell of a time naming the character for the doll that I want to buy next. I've picked out the sculpt (Resinsoul Rong), I've planned how she's going to look, I've got a basic personality for her, and I've even bought her a few things to wear, but can I think of a name for her? Nope *sigh*. :|

    20. For some unknown reasons I just can't name my last doll, IOS Lacrimosa *_*. From the beginning, I want him to be"Toukichi", "Valentine", then "Kanefer", "Calcifer" like the character from Howl's Moving Castle, "Ignifer",...but still somehow strange. So I let him be nameless for few months, when he was sent to a face up artist. When he returned, I began to think a lot of names but none was ok... Then I let my mom pick one...She thought that Chinese name would be interesting and I already named other dolls with German, Japanese, etc... So that time he was named "Xi" with Chinese character mean "lighten" But...his face didn't suit Chinese name at all. :doh In the end, I change his "Xi" to Greek alphabet instead... But the problem returns again, when both I and my mom (also friends too) all call him "that Lacrimosa" until now. I don't know what should I do anymore...
