The Nameless Doll: Troubles naming dolls.

Jan 19, 2010

    1. Ugh, naming woes...this happens when I get a doll with no character in mind. It took me forever to find the right name for my Unidoll Jace, but I'm still stuck with my SoulDoll Shaun. I just cannot find a name that fits him, or a look that I like. It's a pity, because he's gorgeous.

I've also put myself in the position of getting a new doll, and I have nothing prepared for him. My roommate and son and brother are joking that I'm going to call him "Pretty Snape" since he's coming in as a distraction while I'm waiting for my Illusion Spirit CangXie, but beyond that, I have no real idea. XD

    2. I use my favorite characters' names from my favorite books sometimes, it helps me bond faster with my dolls too.

    3. My MSD's were named after OC's my friends and I made in an old videogame that is no longer around (City of Heroes). Audrey "Odessa" was my OC's alter ego, while "Guy" Cooper, and Donna "Katerina" were my friend's. Still friends today and they're totally cool/ a bit flattered that I based my dolls off them. Wouldn't be a BJD super group without them. Their other names are my favorite Twin Peaks characters: Audrey, Coop, and Donna.

As for my tiny bjds, they're all named after wacky characters from movies and videogames.
Joon (planetdoll honey mermaid) is named after the lead (snorkel mask wearing) lady from the movie Benny & Joon. While her appearance was made to look a lot like the character Emeralda from Xenogears, who's nickname is "June Mermaid". Joon mermaid.
Lilo (Dollzone Wendy) after the movie Lilo and Stitch, because she looks like a water alien thing. It just seemed to fit & went with the crazy quirky name theme Joon had.
Their little pet octopus and hippo are named Prometheus and Bob after clips from an old Nickelodeon show Kablam.

    4. The best relationships I had with my dolls when I was in the hobby long ago, was with the dolls I bought with a character and name in mind.

Now,I have two dolls and neither are named... one, I'm waiting for the correct wig and eyes to arrive so I can see if she'll be one of my RP characters. The other has no intent, no character, not even a face up!

However, reading through this thread and starting to contemplate names for her, I got kind of excited, which makes me optimistic that I could still bond with her once I decide on a name; and that, whether or not I make the first girl into the character I'm thinking of, I'll be able to continue bonding with her while also choosing a new name!

    5. Considering that most of the dolls I want are reflections of my original characters, I don't necessarily have a hard time naming them xD But, my first doll, a Chloe MNF is one that is NOT based off of an OC. So, I can understand the difficulty in naming them. It took a while to try and figure out what would fit right for her, but I eventually decided on Noelle. It's a name that I've loved for ages and I felt that it fit perfect with the sweet style of lolita that she has.

    6. I always name my dolls before they show up-- I just get a feeling that they'd like the name :D

    7. For me it really depends on the sculpt and spontaneity of the purchase. Some dolls are planned and decided names based on ocs. I've had a few that I just liked the sculpt and went and bought them. The company name was all I had to go by at the time so they just stuck.

The ones I care for the most are still the planned ones of course. They get spoiled the most.

    8. Currently I only have one doll and it took me about a month to find a good name for her. I had a whole list of names that I really liked but I was stuck cuz I wanted her name to be perfect. I ended up deciding on a name that I didn't think was gonna fit right for what I had in mind for her character, but I absolutely love the name now. Her name is now Aria. I now have a boy doll on the way that I plan on turning into her boyfriend and I already have a name picked for him which is Saber.

    9. All of my dolls have names, but I'm still sort of on fence about them.
They haven't really clicked, even though I like the names and everything...

    10. I have this one doll I got for an OC of mine, but I recently reshelled her, and I'm trying to find a name for her but I just can't. :(

    11. So far all my bjds have names. All but one still have the factory name as I liked them. My non bjds are mostly unnamed as there are just way too many of them. For the dolls I do name something just pops into my head that seems to work for them. :)

    12. I feel like my DollZone June will never have a name! I have tried so many and nothing sticks. She is pretty much complete, except I'm contemplating different eyes since she's technically borrowing them from a floating head. I think this is one of the harder things for me in the hobby, naming dolls. I've had a few that pretty much just named themselves, lol! It was cake, but most of the time I have trouble. My June is definitely, by far, the most troublesome.

    13. Im horrible with doll naming! I always feel pressure to name them before they come but I almost always end up changing it anyways :daisy

    14. I've had two dolls for 6 years or so now, and neither of them has a name yet. I suck at coming up with names and I'm always worried I'll pick the wrong name and I'll end up not liking it, so all that pressure to choose a good one stresses me out and I can't pick at all. Heck, I have two rats around 8 months old that still don't have names because I just can't choose. People talk about finding a name that just "clicks" and I just can't seem to do that (especially with male names, I'm not a big fan of boy names).

    15. As of now none of my dolls have a name. I am horrible at naming anything. I can never think of a name that just clicks. I'm lucky my dogs both have a name. :)

    16. Good lord it took me FOREVER to come up with a name.
I wanted something that was going to fit her personality and face-up so I stuck with Dawn.
I personally love the name to death.

    17. I tried to be creative, mixing the beginning of one name and the ending of another, I think thats how actors get their names sometimes. I also think about actors names that I like, or characters in movies that might suit my doll's character.

    18. I have my doll's name all picked out, but I'm going to have to wait until I meet him because I have a feeling the name he gets isn't going to be the one I have picked out. At that point I'm not sure if I'll go with other names I have or not, it all depends on his personality.

    19. I usually wait till I get the doll. I would try out different names depending on the character I want for them. I'm pretty bad at remembering names so I usually have a hard time picking the right one that would stick.

    20. I knew my first boy's name instantly, as there was this song I loved. So I named him after it! My other doll is coming in soon, and I haven't decided whether it'll be a boy or a girl (tiny sized). So for the time being I'm looking into unisex names and will probably pick a final once I decide and develop her/his character.
