Themes You Like

Aug 12, 2010

1. Anything but Alice in Wonderland!

I mean...I love the theme, and I loved when companies started to do it...but now...it's...just...too...much. One more blue-dressed fullset girl, and I'm gonna....hit the back button...:sweat

That said...I love Steampunk themes, I would love to see more science-fiction themes (along with space-gadgets, spaceship-suits, communicator devices etc.)...sci-fi seems so underrated in the hobby...

And cowboys! Yes! Please more Old West themes (and clothes). Also, I love african and indian features on dolls - it would be nice to see more racial variations, though some companies are really going that way (thankfully! :D)

2. Science Fiction.

I'm right know debating with myself if I want to make my first doll a sort of mecha-sci-fi-chick, or a post-apocalytpic zombie surviver. I'm not really sure how to do the last thing, but it could be awesome.

3. Steampunk is very similar to the kind of loli theme (which is also generally the theme for AiW) but i'd love to see some dolls that are actually steampunked out. Like SP styled limbs, and outfits, and goggles and glasses or props and stuff, not just brown and cream loli blegh. Also on that note (kinda) armor, and warrior type dolls would be wonderful. Just please, no more ninjas :|

I'd also LOVE to see something completely out of whack like underwater themed (not necessarily just mermaids, which is what all of the companies keep doing. Different resin colours, faceups and outfits that are underwater inspired would be excellent). I really hope Souldoll keeps up their Tarot themed LE dolls. I think they are unique, gorgeous dolls. Also seconding the love for DZs colourful outfits. I absolutely adore them!

Maybe a Greek and Roman or Norse mythology based doll set? Also if more companies tried out semi-anthros like SOOM is doing, then I would be in absolute heaven! And more companies really need to do awesome street (I dunno, japanese street fashion or something. Kind of like a lot of Nine9s stuff. NOT harajuku or loli though.) inspired clothing! Kind of like what SOOM is starting to do, but it sucks that their outfits are limited :/

I mean there are SO many different and interesting themes out there, and so many of the companies just go on what is proven to work, which makes me sad :(

4. Underwater themed came to my mind as well. Mermaids/men, water nymphs...etc. I think there's some somewhere....but I do like the idea of resin tail instead of just a fabric one. That's what I was thinking for kenomimi dolls... resin ears and tails. I would adore to have a foxboy. <3

Greek/Norse mythology would be awesome to! I mean...it's almost creepy to think...but a Medusa type doll would be pretty sweet. lol

Oh...Nagas.... now those would make some very amazing dolls. Make their lower halves coil-able and you'll have all kinds of amazing photo shoots.

5. Rina-ran-If you want a gorgon, look at Angelheim. They have an SD boy and girl with snakes that magnetically attach to their headcaps.

They also have resin ears, tails, and paws/hooves. They even have a raccoon boy!

6. Darker fae themes appeal to me; it always amuses me that I see endless cute fae, and yet, historically, people feared them -- for a reason. That conflict between fear and fascination is something I've always been fascinated by, so the darker or more dangerous beauties have great allure for me.

Along that vein, if you'll pardon the pun, vampires are always fun, but I've found precious few that aren't, well... precious. Soom's Gluino and Dollmore's Dollpire series are great for me, as they aren't 'sweet little cutesy thing that just happens to have fangs and a cape, don't you want to bring pookums home and serve them tea and crumpets because blood is too icky for Mr./Ms. Fangdimples'. It's worse than sparkling, I swear. *grump* (OK, if they made a pukipire, I might have to get one simply to call it Mr. Fangdimples now, dangit. It could be a... mascot, yeah.) Other horror themed creatures -- gargoyles, werewolves, and so on -- also have great appeal to me.

Masquerade/masked ball themes always seem to hit me where I live, too. Not 'playing halloween dressup', but more Carnivale style, with a more historical than playful approach.

Steampunk, always fun.

Mythology, definitely -- European, Asian, South American, I really don't care which, I love to at least see it all.

Though it is destined to get me stoned to death, I also adore pinups. I don't mean modern sleazeporn, I mean classic vintage pinup style -- more playful than lewd, naughty rather than trashy, tease more than sleaze. Dollmore's glamour girls hit this with me, as their little frillies are very much in keeping with a lot of the classic pinup style overly frilly wardrobe (what there is of it).

I also like the 'created worlds' that some companies have come up with, Soom obviously leaping to mind there for me due to my personal preferences. Volks has their own world, too, with stories about their dolls and the characters they represent. While I'm going to create my own character from the doll, I like this concept on the whole simply because it opens up the possibility of combining elements that, if someone was to take the 'pure source', wouldn't mesh as well. In a 'created world', a classical Naga and a classical Satyr can go to the masquerade ball thrown by a vampire in frilly negligees in a steam-powered zeppelin and no one can say, "Hey, wait a minute, that isn't right... " I'm fond of that kind of crazy hodge-podge reality, it makes all my muses giggle and grin and want to play. While I can make one myself, and definitely have for my own little world, I like that companies that develop things like this that are unique to their own little reality aren't necessarily bound by the 'classical' definition of what any of it is.

7. For me.. I just adore Victorian... [steampunk too..] but really love Victorian.. if I could find patterns that would fit the dolls I'm saving for oh. I would be happy.. I'm a real big Victorian fan... [oh and the 1940's-1950's]

8. I think almost all the themes have been brought to life by the doll companies.

Except maybe cowboy..yeah..I don't see that.

I do hope for more fairytales other than AiW. Maybe sleeping beauty..1001 nights..rapunzel..cinderella.. But I really like beautiful villains theme..like the wicked queen.

Future concept like Mecha Angel is cool too...

Historical period theme..
Old England theme..like sherlock holmes and victorian dresses..
School girls theme..

About AiW...Volks did too with their Yo-SDs...there are many alices out there...the rabbit hole must be stuck..XDDD..

9. I would like to see more fantasy-styled dolls, and maybe those that are more of the Greek mythology theme type? I like Greek mythology a lot, and it would be awesome to see these.

Angels/Demons. I do wish to see how they can do it so that it has the different hierarchy feel instead of wings, horns and tails or something...

10. I'd like to see fashion that is glamorous, experimental, and mature. I would also enjoy more historically accurate (in design) clothing and wigs in general, but especially from before 1700. Old Greek and Egyptian clothing fascinates me.

11. There's a lot of great opinions here!
I'm pretty sick of Alice themed STUFF in general as it's being so over done right now. :sigh

I'd love to see more partial-anthro dolls. I've long been a fan of cat girls, and though I've seen magnetic ears, I don't think I've ever seen an attachable tail. I stumbled across Bridget Wilde's art around the same time as BJDs and I always thought some of her catgrls would make a good inspiration for a BJD.
More mythology dolls would be amazing as well. Now there's a fountain that would never run dry with all the gods and goddesses and demigods and so forth that are out there!

12. DINOSAURS.
(And dinosaur pajamas. ♥)

13. I second that! I adore Rococo stuff too!

14. I'd be happy if I saw shoes and boots that would work for Elizabethan and fantasy themes. More dark fantasy too!

15. I like themes that are cute and creepy. Although with my dolls I tend to lean more towards creepy. I like dark circus themes, haunted museum themes, stuff like that. Also anything really surreal or supernatural.
Fantasy and scifi themes would be nice to see too, though elves are getting somewhat old, IMO.

Also, UNDEAD THEME homigawsh. I would love to see an undead theme(not vampires though, it's gotten over done). Zombies, wraithes, banshees-- Shown true to what they really are but still retaining that ethereal beauty. THAT would be great(and I would be bankrupt lol).

16. What about aladin...or the other fairy tales like snow white or the match girl...

17. By now I'm pretty well steampunk'd out.... It's jumped the shark & turned into either "when goths discover brown" or "look, I glued a gear on my hat".

Randomly: I would love a Commedia Dell'Arte theme, and I would love if Iplehouse did it... it's not a far cry from their Noctarcana circus-theme that they did so beautifully, both dark-and-sparkly. They have a lovely grasp of such things.

Or: Gladiator theme. I never get tired of gladiators.

Sure, and Volks's whole Dolpa release a couple months ago was also an Alice set. I meant that DD-Anne's & Piposdoll's JUST came out at the same time, almost-simultaneously (like, both this week)... which must've made them go "aw, maaaaan".

(But, DD-Anne's are limited to 2 and 3 each, so I don't think her sales will suffer much from the climate of Alice-fatigue. ^^)

Wellllll, OK, guilty, but they're not usually marketed to me with a Hot Beefcake Pinups theme. Once they're here, I do take certain artistic liberties with them.

18. Victorian style theme is a big one for me and another would be the style from the French Revolution.

19. THIS. All the way~ <3

20. Personally, I adore Alice in Wonderland AND kitty anthros (and elves and vampires), but I think there could be so much more variety beyond those!

Egyptian mythology comes to mind. Can you imagine 60+cm dolls with full animal heads?!

Also some of the less popular Greek and Roman mythological characters such as a set of nymphs, muses or dolls based on the non zodiac constellations.

Also:
Sumerian/Akkadian/Hittite/Babylonian Mythology (I want an Enki and an Ishtar!)
Steampunk
Victorian
"School" girls and boys (Like Rosette and Tokyo Boys)
Indian mythology (there is some, but not much)
Post-apocalypse
Sci-fi ETs (Grays, Reptilians, etc.)
1960s Austin Powers/James Bond
Gypsies

And that's just off the top of my head!
