When you are talking about mods, I know what you mean. I have an off topic doll that had painted eyes and I was trying to cut new eyes for him and my family was super creeped out!

 

While browsing the list of Ringdoll bjd's, I came across this handsome fellow. It would have been an awesome fullset if not for the design of this rather...interesting head accessory.

I think the funniest things to me are those situations where we've become so desensitized to how bizarre customization/disassembly/etc. can look from the outside and then someone sees us doing our hobby and is like "...wtf" lol. My housemates have become accustomed to seeing various doll bits and pieces/uncanny scenes around the house and now it's something we all joke about. I like to think I keep life interesting for them.

 

Hahahaha!!! That was my reaction too after a second look at the photos.

While I understand that the headpiece is supposed to resemble a dragon with a gaping maw, why design it in a way that when viewing on a different angle, it looks like a large golden <beep!!!> standing proudly on top of the dorrie head? Maaaaan!!!

 

Okay so I was watching an Ask A Mortician video on Youtube about a guy who stole and sold body parts from Harvard Medical School to various people. Obviously, terrible situation for the people whose relatives donated their bodies to help train doctors and instead got sold for profit.

But the thing that tickled me and the reason I find this related to this thread (other than one of the purchasers being someone who created custom creepy non-bjd dolls, fully knowing she was using human parts) was some of written descriptions of Paypal transactions reported in the news. Including a memo that said 'Head Number 7'.

And I'm sitting here realising I've probably sent payments via Paypal with very similar notes on them.

 

I was thinking of this last night… I always found it funny the fact that Dollmore named that one sculpt Huey Lewis

@Crissaegrim OMG I remember reading about that… kind of reminds me of one customs form I got for a BJD where the seller wrote “Barbie Doll head” on it

 

It took me far too long to realize Luts has an "Eddy" and the "Tide". They're always listed in the opposite order! I really like this naming trend.

I have yet again found some mistranslations that I can't help but chuckle at (that are certainly v problematic out of context)

“No need to spend” versus “flowerbed” is hilarious—I’m guessing one is a layaway deposit, and the other is payment in full, but flowerbed has me scratching my head.

 

In swedish, "rabatt" is a homonym meaning both "flowerbed" and "discount". Maybe there is some similar quirk of the original language this was translated from? Othewise I have no idea. It's certainly funny either way.
