1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things about this hobby that you find hilarious?

Apr 30, 2021

    1. The blue-eyed angel has been sold! Off to watch over their person I assume!

    2. @cobaltconduct There's a listing I am looking at on Dollyteria that has a combo of frowning eyebrows and a smile drawn at the corner of the lips that I think was supposed to look sheepish/shy, but totally comes off as "please don't hurt me, captor-sama"

    3. (Cue music)
... There's something strange, in the neighbourhood.
      ... Who you gonna call?
      ... "Doll busters!!!"

.... wait, no. that didn't come out right. Don't bust the dolls... :sweat

    4. While I find this as more endearing and thoughtful more than anything, I always find it slightly hilarious that I have a number of non-doll people in my life who will send me pics of all sorts of random tiny household objects or props and things and say, "I saw this and thought of your dolls!"

    5. @SPhosphate - no pressure, but if you bought it, please please please share more pics with us. It was one thing looking at the pictures on my tiny little phone screen, but in big resolution on my PC - :aeyepop:

    6. New dream job unlocked (bust the dolls, change their eyes, put them back)

      Edit:
@lutke - hahaha I think I just saw the doll you mean! Poor little thing!

Update to my dream job description: bust the dolls, redo their faceup, put them back dignified.

    7. Sorry, but it wasn't me. Someone else beat me to it!
But, if you -are- interested, I can probably recreated that look. I have a Volks F-09 with big eyes (she uses 18mm eyes). While she doesn't have a face up yet, I am very sure I can take some unflattering photos of her just for you!

Count me in, then! I wanna be on your team! Team work makes the dream work!!

    8. This is probably too specific, but I think it's hilarious that I've had my doll for like... four years now? And just discovered that he is double jointed? Somehow I never slid the knees out farther, and I had no idea they could do that. *facepalm*

Dream Valley had jellyfish? Do they still?? Are there other sculpts like that?

    9. I actually think that unflattering pictures can be very useful when trying to figure a doll out. Both for when deciding on a purchase and when trying to customize a doll. :)
If you do take pictures, consider posting them in the BJD's at their worst game thread.

    10. The angel doll looking mere seconds away from murdering its new owner (anyone else in a fifteen foot radius) has now given me something to mull over: what the worst kind of murderous doll would be to fight, materials-wise.

I may need to get a poll going in Brigadoon...

    11. @Cryptid now I'm thinking of the angel statues from Doctor Who but in doll form
      sleep tight everyone

    12. Don't worry about it! A friend of mine has a Spirit Doll that she had restrung twice without realising that he had a magnetic ding-a-ling. It was -that- well attached!

Yes, Dream Valley had a few discontinued jellyfish girls. The most recent one was Aurelia.
Both Rin and Hela were also yo-SD sized jellyfish girls. And both of them came with translucent body/tail versions.
Dollzone also has LuMu, who is also a jellyfish girl with translucent options available. They also had a translucent Jellyfish "head + tails" for a 70+ sized doll that was recently on sale. There may be more, but these are the ones I remember.

This reminds me... where do you guys post your images? I had an ancient Photobucket account but that website had gone under for a long time. I don't have any other online space for photos. Any suggestions?

    13. I use postimages - it's a little janky (their server has been down a few times and they still haven't fixed their hotlink code generator) but it's easy enough to upload both from the computer and phone and they don't have an annoying nsfw filter (luminous peen stayed up just fine!) so I keep going to it... I would not dare to upload the scary angel pictures there, though, what if they break the website?:shudder

      *tapes eyelids open*

My first doll was a minifee - it took me many months to realise the elbows were double jointed (poseability +1). On the flip side, that was also when I realised minifee knees are not (poseability -1:pout:) so I was also kind of disappointed at the same time. You win some you lose some!

We had a mention of opposite polarity magnetic man bits, zipped up into pants and ready to be unleashed at a burglar a few pages down... that's my vote :sweat

    14. This used to happen all the time with the old JID bodies. Double jointing wasn't standard, so many people who got them had never goten used to double joints. And those Iplehouse bodies were over engineered and not super user friendly. They looked single jointed and behaved single jointed unless you knew how to pull the joint way out of it's socket, exposing an internal part, that could then be bent to hold a 90 degree angle, leaving the main joint to more or less function as ususal on top of that. Those joints are limited, temperamental and a pain to use when the doll is dressed, so I rarely use them.

When I got my first JID I did know about the joints, but had forgotten about them by the time I first restrung her and rediscovered those wierd little internal pieces.

    15. Is anyone else familiar with the film Phantasm? Because that's what I'm picturing, with flying bits burrowing into a head rather than the death ball.

Image-hosting wise, I use Flickr. It seems to be working well so far, though having it display the file name is mildly annoying.

    16. @Cryptid I imagine a G.I. Joe style toy ad with the manly announcer, and a doll falling back into rubble after getting hit by the mosaic censored projectile

    17. @tsukibun this happened to me as well but I'd had the poor thing for almost 10 years and on top of that she was probably my most handled doll as I used to use her for my (defunct) Etsy shop. I was absolutely beside myself when I realized her hidden double joints :sweat

    18. Hmm... that's a good point. OK. Time to take the wings down first. That way she won't be a scary angel! (She'll just be "creepy doll" instead. Then again... Mimi's not scary. She just has giant big eyes... )

I had to look up the movie to make sure that I remembered it right. And dang! You're right! That would be one heck of a flying missive of death! I wouldn't want to be in the flight path of one of those little flying murder-balls.

      Thanks for the suggestions, folks!
I'll go set up something over the weekend. Then... giant, staring, doll eyes!!!

    19. This sounds like a more uplifting job than nearly every corporate anything I can possibly think of. Give the Creepy Dolls a chance to change! Redemption arcs for creepy dolls, they deserve this chance, too, people!

I disappear for a few weeks in post-school crash and I come back to this thread giggling like one of my kids over their silly video memes. Lmao. It's good to be back to this thread! :D

There's gotta be an anime out there somewhere with a variation of this horror premise. Growing random parts to use as weapons on the spot, like some kind of creepy monster the heroic sword-wielding folks have to kill. Only this version has creative appendages of every animal variety horror out there, and... yeah, I'll stop now. :XD:

Tagline has to be in this spirit, though: "Burglars thought they ruled MegaCity, but the day of reckoning has arrived. They're about to meet their match in Creative Appendage Man!"

    20. Huh, now I'm wondering which of my dolls I could take in a fight...
