1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread* - pt.2

Jul 13, 2017

    1. lol and the vinyl was first if you consider Volks at the core of things LOL... ya.. but they are loosening things here.... slowly but they are lol
And omg yes I am all for sucking in new ppl to the hobby but not without them being brought in with complete understanding of critical basics... And the replies to 'what doll do i get' that are an endless list of what OTHER ppl like not even thinking to ask what the newbie might like or more importantly 'might not'... and yes these are 'in general' not something that gains in value... not an 'investment'. Love first.

I still show but i also take great pleasure in the subtle 'teachings' of how ignorant ppl can be. Yes I like putting ignorant ppl in their place... ESPECIALLY when it's willful ignorance and they think they know better than those who are part of the community.

    2. Flaky people.

I've been in the hobby for almost ten years, and I feel like I've dealt with more flaky buyers and sellers in the past year or two than all the rest of the hobby time combined. I love people who make a transaction fast and simple! If you need a layaway is fine too, if you make your payments on time without reminders, you are amazing and I'm forever grateful to you. Asking questions before buying is fine. If I answer your questions about an item and that makes you no longer interested (wrong color, shipping costs, wrong size, etc) and you tell me, that's fine. Letting me know there was a minor issue making a payment on time and working together to fix it is fine. Shipping a couple of days late and telling me so is fine. As long as I have communication and you are being a responsible person, I'm happy.

The problem is people saying they're interested or asking a question about an item and never replying again, especially if other people are also interested. I hate making good buyers wait because of a flaky potential buyer. Or saying you want to buy the item, then disappearing. Or saying you like it, disappearing for a week, I sell it to someone else, then you're upset with me that I "sold it out from under you" even though at no point did you commit to buy it or pay me. Layaway buyers who miss payment dates, then string it out for months of empty promises. Sellers who never respond to messages or take weeks to reply. By then, I'm no longer interested due to the lack of communication. Sellers who change their mind about selling after I said I wanted to buy. People who offer trade items, but never find time to take photos yet still pressure me to accept a trade. Simple clothing commissions/preorders that take longer to ship than a new doll would take.

Because of these things, I feel like I have to be too strict on my policies, like I don't hold items, payment is due within 24 hours of committing to buy or I offer it to the next person, I only do layaways with people with perfect feedback and I require set payment dates and amounts, I refuse to ship anything worth over $50 without tracking and insurance. I don't like being so strict because I feel like it might keep some good buyers away, but it's just not worth the stress and anxiety of dealing with flakes. :(

      Oh, and this. Yes...um....this.....

    3. @CloakedSchemer I've had similar experiences. I now write sales descriptions like a lawyer in a real estate transaction!
Nothing you've written above sounds too strict to me. I hope you have better experiences in the future.

    4. @Answer42 Thank you! I do hate that it’s almost come to a point of writing out contracts and that people don’t think of it as a business transaction as they should. If you enter into a sale, you have an obligation to pay on time/ship on time, not just do it whenever is convenient to you. The best transaction I’ve ever had took a total of four days from first contact to receiving the doll. Wish they all could be like that!

    5. Oh man, the way accusations of copying get thrown around is so annoying. Like, you aren't gonna be the only person with a glitter-vomit pastel goth dragon boy or whatever, haha. Other people are bound to have similar ideas. Not to mention, imitation breeds ingenuity. Wanting to be special and unique only leads to stagnation!

I'll be honest and say confession blogs are absolutely irritating too, if not pathetic. "Someone insulted this sculpt I like. They hurt my feelings. :( " or whatever. Like, I wanna look at pictures of dolls, not read about whatever hot topics doll collectors are pissed about this season. They're so plentiful, though, so good luck avoiding them. Gotta scroll for hundreds of years. Serves me right for using tumblr mobile.

I'll finish with the fact that I'm so broke and jaded that doll prices in this hobby annoy me too. My girl is gonna be sitting on my desk alone forever, I feel like. I can't dish out the $500+ for a friend for her, and it's a shame, 'cause she makes me very happy. Like, all this annoyance getting thrown around in this post? Nothing compared to how much she makes me smile when I change her clothes or style her hair. I'm fortunate enough to buy an outfit every so often, though, which is good. It'll be ok, though. With a growing family, my attention will be shifted for a bit anyway.

Ah, you know, I do feel better.

    6. @amarantinenoir you are so right about being accused of copying being thrown about too freely! Now you have me seriously thinking of a glitter-vomit pastel goth dragon boy. Annd, I also agree with doll prices being more than I can pay.

    7. As I’m getting ready to redo a faceup on my boy, I’ve realized another pet peeve of mine. Why is every brown thing in this hobby red tinted?? So few companies have a nice brown or tan resin that isn’t actually orange. When I need a brown wig, most of them are closer to auburn (unless they’re nearly black which also doesn’t work when I need something medium brown). Even faceup materials seem to have a lot more warm reddish browns than neutral or olive browns so my eyebrows end up looking more suited for a redhead than a blond or black hair.

Am I the only one with this problem??

    8. I agree with both of these lol Even if someone does "copy" you, it's like my mother always said: "imitation is the highest form of flattery" Also, I'm just annoyed with the fact that 2 wigs of mine fit a lil too tight & also I have 2 dolls already & I want a third now!!! I'm only 2 or 3 months into the hobby! D:

    9. I need to get off my chest, "All the threads I watched being bumped by a newbie user who's spamming for marketplace access."

Just... just stop. No. Your comments don't contribute anything, they're obviously spam, and they aren't going to get you marketplace access. It's really not that hard to actually contribute to the forum instead of annoying people, and bonus, actually contributing will actually get you MP access.

I'm also going to complain that I was all set to finally take the plunge and start working on my hippogriff's blushing ("don't unstring" directions be damned!), and now it's looking like I'm going to be moving soon instead so I have to put it off yet again. At least it's more time to figure out how I'm going to tackle the unstringing/restringing part...

    10. I agree with CloakedSchemer, one of my pet peeves is the lack of interesting shades of brown. I really like dolls with brown hair and eyes, and pretty much all I can find are wigs in reddish auburn brown or black brown or ginger brown. I need more shades of brown, most of my dolls seem to end up in Monique Gold black brown wigs. Boring! The brown eyes available are even worse, they are mostly a very flat grayish light brown, quite unattractive.

My current major pet peeve though, is the sad lack of 6mm eyes. I just got an Iplehouse FID Rex, and I am having such a hard time finding clothes and shoes and especially eyes for him. I know there a lot of little dolls out there, so why aren't there any little eyes? It seems counter intuitive.

The only clothes for him I have found that I like are from those fiendishly skilled seamstresses in Russia. Sigh, and it takes so long to get them. No joke, I ordered a doll from Korea and clothes from Russia , in mid December, and the doll came two weeks ago, but I am still waiting on the clothes!

    11. I agree that finding 6mm eyes is annoyingly difficult. A lot of places that sell them carry about 5 colors. Eventually I'm going to try ordering some from Dreaming Tree Studio.

And finding wigs in size 4. Ok, so it's not the most popular size, but can't they make them fit more reliably?

    12. When things are criticized for being somehow "too popular." Seriously, I've seen people hate on Fairyland and Iplehouse (for example) because "everyone has one" and therefore, if you get a doll from one of those companies, you're automatically not "original" or creative. C'mon folks, everyone knows being edgy is SO mainstream!

    13. I relate to this so hard

Ugly giant hands! Like why have you made her hands that are literally bigger than her head? Why? Aint no clothes gonna fit over that.

    14. My current annoyance is parts of clothes being way out of scale for the doll wearing it. For example, a piece of clothing is offered in both SD and MSD sizes, but they use the same size metal snaps as the SD on the MSD (or worse-full human size!). :vein
I am picky when it comes to scale. Why not use smaller snaps just on the inside and glue a tiny metal stud on the outside? Those huge snaps just look ridiculous on a mature msd! And don't even get me started on zippers...:sigh

    15. Ok so this is something small and easily fixable but:
My doll caN'T STAND WITH HIS SHOES ON. If you take them off oh radical he can stand but THE SECOND any form of shoe goes on him it's like hahaha watch me do a back flip off of your desk.

      • x 9
    16. Might be the shoes themselves. My Yo-SD's shoes used to do that, it got so bad I couldn't put them in certain shoes without it effecting them. I had to buy vintage doll shoes and then shop around on fleabay for some decent ones. Might be worth looking at his shoes when he's wearing them. What happened to my girls is their feet kept getting pushed upwards versus remaining how I put them.

    17. My hobby pet peeve is when other people start dictating what one can or can't do in the hobby.

Oh, and buying shoes. I hate trying to find shoes for dolls.

    18. Thank you so much man

    19. Wish ya luck.

    20. I'm still really new to this, I just ordered my first doll. But I'm already planning on another doll I want in the future and stuff I'll want for her. It's incredibly difficult to find wigs in colors that aren't natural colors. I have been looking for weeks and weeks. Every time I find a site that has some it's always sold out! I'm about ready to take up wig-making as a new craft.

As for marketplace complaints, well, obviously I don't have access yet being a newbie, but I do have transaction issues before. I am custom plush artist as my profession and I often have people asking me for quotes and then vanishing forever, or just straight up telling me my prices are horrible (Which is rude!) Luckily I have not had anyone vanish during payment plans yet. Hopefully that does not become a thing.
