1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread* - pt.2

Jul 13, 2017

    1. Another pet peeve I didn't realize I had until I started browsing for sculpts for two new OCs that happened literally overnight ... companies going all artsy-fartsy presenting their dolls, but neglecting to show stuff like their dolls' face. I get it, s/he looks cool with that huge hat or cowl or goggles or whatever, but I'd like to see the face from more than one half-obscured angle when I'm trying to decide whether or not to shell out a couple hundred bucks and wait several months for this sculpt of yours.
Same goes for bodies. It's all well and good when the long-term customers know where on the page you've hidden the blank pics of your dolls' bodies, but I'd like to be able to find them, too, please.

Seriously, companies. All we want is to throw our money at you. Why make it harder than it already is? :chomp:

(I'm also low-key annoyed with myself for sticking with the "usual suspects" because I know they present their dolls in a way that helps me decide whether or not they work for my OCs. :eusa_sile )

    2. And where they've hidden the measurements... and the resin colors...

    3. My biggest pet peeve is the lack of historical clothing for dolls, especially msds. As a history major, I want my dolls to be able to wear the same kinds of clothing I adore and study.

    4. I have a few pet peeves that I haven't really voiced until now, haha.

1: The recent trend where finding msd clothes outside of the official company's site has become nearly impossible. Everything is almost minifee and while I have no problem with the dolls themselves, mnf clothes certainly aren't going to fit my chunky old msd boys!

2: On the same topic of clothing, when people just list the sizing as SD/MSD/etc with no actual measurements in sight. Not all dolls are the same size and I can't tell you how many times I've purchased clothes for a specific doll only for it to not fit the doll in mind.

3: For me personally, I dislike when I order a pair of darker colored eyes but when I put them in the doll, they look almost black and you can barely make out the color. :C I enjoy vibrant eyes but I don't want all my dolls to have light colored ones just so they can be visible. This is especially bad with my 'romance' dolls.

    5. I agree. I’m not a history student but it’s always been something I love learning about and more historical outfits would be brilliant. I’d love a Roman soldier outfit! XD

Yep. As a collector of mainly 68-72cm boys, the variation is huge. Stuff listed ad ‘SD17’ or 1/3 boy is usually wayyyy too small for the big guys. I need actual measurements!

    6. I am having the same trouble with clothes! I get that minifies are the biggest thing in the market, but there's gotta be some variations with clothes for chunkier msds!

    7. @Polardiepie @Spuggey Would it hearten you to hang around the Styling & Crafting and Project Journal forums? Many of us clothing history geeks that hang around there and provide advice.

When shoes are listed by length only, no width mentioned.

    8. Total agreement here! How am I supposed to make a $400+ decision based on limited angles, sculpts obscured by faceups/wigs and no view of the body under its multilayered costume? And that's before we get to photo filters... (Not naming names, but a certain beloved company whose name rhymes with Eiffel Mouse continues to burn my biscuits with its frustrating lack of blank photos. Not that they're the only ones by a long shot!)

    9. When an Etsy store teases a limited release of something and I check and check every few minutes for it to be available to buy, then miss it because I was taking a shower or something. T.T

    10. Rofl! Actually the Eiffel Mice were among the more helpful ones ... not necessarily limited to one faceup option, blank pics at the end of the page. (But I still don't buy any of theirs until I've seen owner pics. The only company I'll buy "blind" from is Granado.)

    11. True, they're definitely not the worst of the bunch. XD Trying to find blank face pics from certain companies seems like an impossible task, especially when it's a sculpt that isn't super popular.

I'd be willing to buy from Granado relatively sight unseen, but ironically the msd Vigor had a good two dozen photos with different angles and poses showing off the engineering. I wish more companies did that, instead of having to wait for secondhand information from owners.

    12. A big pet peeve for me lately is not really the wait time so much as the fact that sometimes there is no concrete deadline. I wouldn't mind waiting 6 months if I KNEW my doll was shipping out on October 16, 2018 on the dot. Or even within the week of October 16 or something. But no, the general attitude tends to be "eh, you'll get it when you get it."

Also just the homogeny of bjd sculpts in general. If it weren't for a few companies (Doll Chateau, Dollzone, Miracle Doll) and artist dolls I probably wouldn't be interested in the hobby at all because it's impossible for me to tell the rest apart.

    13. 1. What annoys me is that some doll companies do not give us an easy excess to view their dolls' bodies' simple posing while naked and with measurements. I had to dig google and youtube for references...

      2. I kinda not like seeing dolls with double joints that looks like a rectangle from the side view when they bend their elbow or knees.. Sorry, it's just my problem.. No offence..

      3. Many doll companies do not state the size (cm, SD or 1/4, etc) on their navigator/menu. Had to click into all of them to check to know the size. (usually when I'm visiting the company website for the first time.)

      4. When I have no time to do what I want to do for my dolls! Be it faceup, modding, sewing new clothing, making accessories, etc.. I always feel like I have not enough time.. *_*

    14. Bad breast sculpting, when they either have, two small balls of resin stuck to there chest and it doesn't look realistic at all, or like many have stated balloon boobs, I don't mind them as much, cause they work with certain clothing, but still. Sickly looking dolls, I'm talking about the ones you can see there ribs and hip bone jut out, and if you get them in white skin they look really sick. And the last one would be, if there ribcage is huge, but there hips are tiny, it just looks so weird and off putting for me, I'm mostly talking about girl dolls here.

    15. Okay, here are a few I need to purge from my system:
      1. Posting on Instagram. Just using Instagram in general. I find it tiring. typing out each of the hashtags manually for every single post without some sort of database where I can access commonly used tags (I have to save them elsewhere, which I shouldn't have to). Their search engine isn't always helpful either, and I find it annoying that there's a lot of disorganization in the timeline of posts of those I follow (one from a few seconds ago, another from six days ago, like wtf!). Plus, I have had countless problems with DMs magically disappearing on me, and I've found it to be really difficult to make sales on there as well (I've only successfully had one sale on there, I never get responses from interested parties when I respond to their DMs). And I understand that most people like to use it to look at pretty pictures, but for me...I'd like to talk to people on there more about the hobby and other things. I'm just not into only looking at pretty pictures on there....

      2. ....Those extremely anorexic looking dolls that have been really popular lately. Not Doll Chateau, mind you, as I see those as very stylized. More like Pasha Pasha, and others like that. To each their own, but their proportions really creep me out. Especially their high heeled feet. They look deformed and twisted. I feel so sorry for them....

      3. When somebody can't bother to read the full description on something. They ask questions, and it is right there in front of them. Are people becoming more illiterate these days, or has patience just been worn too thin?

      4. When people are hostile. Especially with elitist attitudes or trying to direct newbies towards going legit. getting confrontational and heated will only convince them to do the opposite of what you desire, and salt attracts flies less than sugar. So remember: always be reasonable and understanding (and level-headed) when giving newbies useful information on the hobby. It could mean the difference between them seeing the light and going legit...or ending up going astray.:3nodding:

    16. This is a personal taste thing but I don’t like the lips on most scupts. So many dolls seem to have these big, pouty lips with a very curvy shape, usually very pink when painted. It’s not a look I like. It seems particularly common in smaller dolls. Finding a doll to be a six year old boy from my novels was a nightmare (Daydream Ryan, in the end) because most of them have the big pouts. There are plenty of people in the world with different lip shapes!

    17. Pet peeve is people who don't want you posting criticism about a shop/seller they like or are friends with, saying you should have kept it private. Uh, wut?

Sorry but if I had a bad experience, I'm going to post about it. Particularly if I have screenshots proving my case. I might want to ask for advice from our community, I might be looking to find out if anyone else had the same experience, and I might want to warn others. It's not a personal attack on the shop's owner, it's not me being a big meanie, it's me being a paying customer unhappy with service. If you don't want the public talking about your shop - both the good and the bad - don't open a damn shop.

Also when you make a post about a bad deal, people popping up like 'Oh I've ordered from there before and they're fantastic!' Like, 'Ok, so you got luckier than I did...good for you?' Imagine if you went to a restaurant and got food poisoning, and when you reviewed them someone said 'oh I ate there last week and didn't get sick!'. Thanks but that doesn't change the fact that I got sick, does it...

    18. My main complaints are
      1. Clothes for sale never have actual measurements or sizing other that scale or sometimes minifee/yosd. How am I supposed to find clothes for my dolls that are not these specific types? Also I agree with what others have said how minifee clothes seems to be the only bjd clothes out there, which is a problem for me since I don't have one and don't plan to.
      2. I find it extremely difficult to actually find dolls. Maybe this is because I'm still fairly new to the hobby, but I have such a hard time finding new sculpts or companies or independent doll sculptors. A lot of the time when people are talking about a type of doll they use a abbreviations that I don't know what they mean! The only way I've found dolls is by seeing pictures other people post of their's and occasionally seeing one I'd like to buy. That coupled with the fact that when I do find a doll I want, it never lines up even close with a preorder period makes it almost impossible for me to buy a doll :...( I wanna spend all my money on dolls, I really do! Just let me!
      3. Sales posts not showing pictures with the doll naked+no face up. I appreciate what they're doing, showing the dolls with clothes and a faceup to see what they'd look like all done up, but I prefer to do face ups myself so I want to see the blank base I'll be working on.

    19. For some reason I've found companies don't take pictures of their dolls in profile. Yes, I get that 3/4 view is prettier but I need to know what sort of nose they have dammit.

    20. As a lot of people have mentioned before me here, the clothes issue for msd is sure fire my top peeve! For one it seems really hard to find decent clothes/outfits for msd boys, let alone boys that aren't "slim msd". What bugs me most is that you can find pretty much anything you could imagine for other sized dolls.. or perhaps I'm just looking in all the wrong places.

The second thing that bothers me is mostly my opinion, but I dislike when people mod the eyes on sleeping heads to be open. I have a soft spot for sleeping heads because of how they look, however I understand that maybe that's just a good way to try something new or maybe it's cheaper/what you have to work with. For whatever reason it bugs me a little.
