1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread* - pt.2

Jul 13, 2017

    1. Quite a few small pets... those little snail guys, for instance... are also limited edition sculpts that you can only get by *also* making a doll purchase from the company during the fairly short time-frame they're available. That means that they're likely to be a lot less common than items that can just be ordered alone, any time someone wants one. Such a limited supply on the secondary market can mean higher prices, especially if the pet in question ends up being at all popular after its order period has passed.

    2. And that’s what beaks my heart. I believe the moon rabbits from the loongsoul event were also a gift you got from purchase. I can’t even say “I can’t imagine someone buying 3 dolls from the event just for those bunnies” but honestly..... I would.... -_-

    3. @AidenEsparza Sometimes dealers will get event dolls as gifts to sell separately. Keep an eye on them during events. I have a friend who has a couple from years past she got on Legenddoll. It's not going to be an all the time thing, but it does happen!

    5. It kind of annoys me how few fantasy mature mini dolls are available. There's Dream Valley, Racoon Doll, Dollzone, Doll Chataeu, Resin Soul, and Luts limiteds. Though my bank account is grateful...

    6. It's completely understable to find it frustratig. In my case I dislike how difficult is to get one. I think there is some reasons for small BJDs to have such costing.
Firstly, the point you mentioned. Smaller dolls are not easier to sculpt or (I think) cast than bigger ones, specially the joints. Another reason would be the small quantity production since they normally do really small amounts of pet models. Or because mostly are limited edition too.

    7. I've been browsing the DoA marketplace for a doll I have half a mind to buy. I keep finding ones that match my criteria except (too tall, odd looking joints, not keen on the hands, still too tall.) It's nice to save money by not getting the doll I want, but still.

    8. Seams on expensive dolls. I have had them a few years, and just now am starting to customize them, but several of my Soom dolls with fantasy parts have bad seam lines, some thicker than an X-acto blade. Yet my Resinsoul dolls, which are much, much cheaper have zero seams. Like I cannot even find where the seam would be. And I didn't have to pay extra for seam removal.
Also, why did Soom only put one fang in the Cheshire cat mouth?

    9. There are some things I find a bit annoying when it comes to BJD-related stuff. :huh?:

      1. Companies heavily editing their promotional pictures without putting the blank model(or only head with faceup). I get how important is having nice-looking photos but it's really important for the customer to accurately know what the final product is going to look like.

      2. Really pricey fantasy-related fullsets that doesn't include the fantasy parts or pieces painted. If I am paying +900USD or even +1000USD for a fullset, at least I want the whole set exactly with everything like the pictures...

      3. Companies that don't sell clothes for their dolls with rare (or uncommon) measurements. I've adored a lot of models that I needed to discard buying because of this issue. (Nop, I coudn't find any clothing for them on Etsy. :( )

    10. Oh, that one's darn near universal, I think...
Getting someone for your crew who's just *impossible* to dress almost seems to be a rite of passage in this hobby. It's just about inevitable. (Says the woman who spent yesterday afternoon patterning an outfit for the lanky, off-the-wall-proportions of a Dream Valley Qing. <_< )

It might be fun to do a survey down in the Sewing section sometime, to see just HOW MANY of us were originally driven to learn to sew because we found ourselves with an odd-sized naked doll and jack all for ready-made alternatives to dress them in. :sweat

    11. It’s really frustrating when dolls are limited and they come up on the second hand market for double or triple the price. I understand it increases value if well cared for overtime but it feels kinda upsetting to be price gouged by fellow collectors. Idk it’s kinda a bittersweet. I can’t say most people wouldn’t sell high if they could. It can mean more doll stuff or help pay for other things. It’s just sad when it’s so out of reach. I suppose it’s more to do with the company releasing it so little. It’s very complicated I couldn’t possibly judge people or companies much for this because production and all the different sculpts etc. however it’s just a bit sad when you see one at like 5000.
I also don’t like it when you buy a doll and can’t find anything nice for them to wear! I spend hours on Etsy picking stuff for a doll that I hadn’t gone in there to choose clothes for and then find nothing for the main doll I was trying to dress. Also wigs...I feel like it’s hard to find good ones. Like there are some nice ones out theee but a lot of the commission based ones are hard to get ahold of because they are so popular.
I swear I need to develop doll customization skills that’s where the money and accessibility is at! Too bad I’m no good at sewing!

    12. If you do decide to post that survey, feel free to link me to it! I know the basics on how to sew, but now I have an incoming doll that I'm not even finding clothes for on etsy.:o:nowords: :...(

So I suppose that's my rant, not being able to find clothes for a really cool doll that not only is an odd size (Doll Chateau Nicola-A 50cm) but has wings! *_*

Damn my heart for falling in love with the sculpt! :doh:sweat:love

    13. Getting a doll/head second hand and spending hours trying to remove the previous owner's faceup because of the glue used to apply the eyelashes would not budge for the life of the doll. And then you have to use an x-acto knife to remove the glue because it is not going to come off otherwise.

    14. When people assume that I’m rich because I have a lot of dolls. I do have a nice amount of disposable income at the moment because of my living situation, but in truth I make below poverty level wages yearly.

    15. Definitely the wait times for me at the moment. I used to avoid those by buying secondhand and sometimes an in-stock doll from a dealer, but last November with all those lovely Halloween events going on I bit the bullet and placed a few orders through a dealer. Then I found out that the current wait times for two out of the three companies are 6-9 months and number 3 (Islanddoll) I have no idea, but it's been 3 months since I ordered from them and nothing so far. Then a company I like came out with new tiny bodies that I adore and really want, but fear of having to wait another 8 months or so kept me from ordering during the discount event. Now I kind of regret not ordering and am waiting for another discount event or one popping up on the MP. It's hard, I'm not used to this long-term planning and it's kinda scary=_=. I'm getting the impression that wait times of 6+ months for just blank dolls is becoming the norm for the more popular companies thanks to covid and it worries me.

Related to that: scrambling to pick out 800 dollars or so worth of dolls from one company just to get the event dolls I wanted that are ONLY available during this event and only if you purchase other dolls, and after the event ends one dealer comes up with another event in which they offer ALL of that company's previously released event/pet dolls for separate purchase (I'm looking at you, Clover-Singing and Dream Valley=_=). I know I will be happy with the dolls I ordered to get to the needed event amount, but yeah. And of course after that big order I was out of budget to buy one separately too...

    16. I would love it if people, especially new hobbyists, would just bring a complete end to the trend of vagueposting while asking for help. If I never see another post of "I need help finding clothes/shoes/a body/a head for my doll. Oh, I won't tell you what it is; maybe I'll offer some measurements if I'm feeling generous, but the company and sculpt must be kept a total secret!" it'll be too soon. No one knows if your doll that's this many centimeters high, with this bust measurement, and this shoulder width, is from FairyLand, or Luts, or Volks, or ResinSoul, or Soom, or... People's brains don't function that way. Just say what it is!

    17. Let's see—
*Getting ghosted on sales inquiries. When somebody shows keen interest in purchasing an item—but then disappears after you give them a shipping quote. Do you still want the item or not? A simple yes or no would suffice. Silence, on the other hand—it's irritating:vein.
*Giving others feedback for purchases but not receiving any in return. Over the years I've tried my best to give people good feedback when I've had a transaction with them, but there have been a few cases where the other party just didn't have the civility to extend that courtesy. I have to admit it makes me hesitant to give others good feedback only to not receive some in return. Like it's more important for them to build up theirs, but not worth it to offer the same to others they've shared the transaction with in return.

Am I being petty for being irritated by these things?:sweat

    18. I have had the opposite as a buyer - showing interest in an item but either never hearing from the seller or else hearing several days after my initial inquiry. I completely understand that not everyone gets on this site (or Instagram, or any other site) every day, but if you're selling something (and it's something you literally just posted)...please check back in frequently and at least have the courtesy to let everyone who expressed interest know that the item has been sold or is no longer available rather than just not responding at all.

      Also ditto on the feedback.

If you're petty, so am I. :sweat

    19. I'm really bad at sewing, but at this point, learning how to sew will be a must if I keep liking dolls that are impossible to dress.*_*
