1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread* - pt.2

Jul 13, 2017

    1. This is my big pet peeve right now too :| I live in New England and New England spring is like one day of perfect weather and 8 days where it's too cold or too humid or raining or hailing...
I've got faceups and blushing I wanna get done but having a day where I can actually go spray sealant is like winning the lottery!

    2. I love making doll clothes. I don't love picking cat hair off of my creations.

    3. Peoples reactions about this hobby. No, I don't play with them or think them as toys. No, this is not a sexual thing or kinky or anything. I just used to like to collect BJD's make some clothes and stuff for them and photograph them. That's all.

    4. I know what you mean! Or even worse, picking cat hair out from between seams when you're sewing! :nowords::vein:(

I have a sticky lint roller for both those instances, but its still annoying. :3nodding:

    5. My doll does pose under the bust, but I have no idea what this change in position is supposed to signify on a real human body. She just snaps backwards and forwards while I'm trying to pose her, into two different positions of Weirdly Shaped. Like, I can't change the angle of my torso midway through my own ribcage, so I'm not sure why Miss Evangeline can. All that snapping does is make her fall over when she's standing.

I can imagine ways of doing a multi-part torso that would be cool and useful, but this is not it....

The one thing I can maybe see a use for it, is doing different corseting styles, where her chest or derriere are pushed out or sucked in to form a particular silhouette. But most of the time, you can accomplish that with padding so yes. Grumbly grum.

    6. This is the finest description of the torso joint I have ever read.

    7. Biggest pet peeve is just how downright toxic I've seen some people in the hobby be. Sometimes to younger members even. In comments, on tumblr... irl... everywhere. About everything from someone being genuinely oblivious to what a recast is to a stray hair or uneven faceup in a picture. What a way to drive people away from the hobby. I wont rant too much because I lurked this whole thread and I've seen it brought up already lol.

Second is I recently found out a company I liked for budget dolls is banned for stealing bodies. Thankfully my doll is in the 'still allowed' lists but there's one less budget company I can link to my friends who wanna get into the hobby but aren't ready to drop 500usd+ on a dollie. Why must you do this, company. :c The bodies before were janky, yeah. But they had their charm.

Finding out your favourite sculpt ever is discontinued forever. :c And it wasn't popular so finding them again is h a r d.

A lot of people I know are against unique, asymmetrical, and not generically 'pretty' sculpts. The odd faces are what drew me to be a total simp for Dollchateau and fall in love with Miracledoll's vic. (Bodies too for DC, I had to draft up my own clothes patterns to dress them all but hnnggg that spindly body is just mwah.) When I saw this same point coming up so much on here it made me happy to know there's many likeminded people on here. :whee:

    8. My #1 pet peeve right now is doll clothes. Which I believe has been my pet peeve since I joined this hobby and found that the clothes available weren't what I wanted my dolls to wear. Now, years later, there is so much more out there...and I still can't find clothes for my dolls?? I was just on Etsy looking for modern girly dresses (like Selkie or THE strawberry dress), and the ones I found were either for smaller scaled dolls or larger. I'm happy I found anything at all, but knowing exactly what I want is there...for a size of doll I don't own kinda sucks (and there still wasn't a lot of it).

I have the same issue with boys - the only modern suits available are boring colors (and i own them all already. New stuff plz), formal and way too fancy, fantasy clothes and military stuff are a dime a dozen, casual is way more out there than it used to be but still somehow not the kind of casual I want and have wanted in my years in this hobby. And again, every. time. I find anything i want it's for smaller dolls. This is def the era of the slim mini. Any other size is apparently expected to dress fantasy or military and that's it.

And i hate that i have to agree with this, but yeah. There does seem to be way more nastiness aimed at new people these days. Tumblr has always been a cesspool but these days it seems like it's everywhere. I get it, we've all had a crappy year, and I swear there are people out there spreading more disinformation about BJDs that new people see and freak out over causing frantic inquires that seem like things everyone should know - but they're new. They don't know stuff yet. We were all new once (I vividly remember being new and knowing nothing. It sucked) and relied on people who knew more than we did. We are those people now. We know stuff. We need to share nicely so we don't inadvertently send people over to the literal dark side of the hobby just out of spite.

    9. Yeah.

My cat has a 6th sense for knowing I am sewing and that there is fabric on the floor to roll on. I try to sew when she is napping, but she knowsssssssss

    10. Agreed on the toxicity, +1 for the preciousness. At least toxic behavior isn't unique to this community, but that's its own kind of bummer. I also wish there was more interest in what I'm seeing is that classical bjd pretty look. I really am liking the MSD size but all the faces are the same! Where's the flat noses, monolid eyes, oval faces, etc? I guess has a lot to do with beauty standards of the countries/regions these companies are in... I just wish the beauty of variety was also appreciated. And I'm newer to the hobby so the idea of doing my own mods sends my anxiety and perfectionism into overdrive :shudder

    11. People that sell things in groups like clothing or wigs I always tend to see just one item I want but I dont want to buy the whole lot just to get that one item. I've asked before if they would just sell me the one item but nope.

    12. I just got another: hemming. I am learning to sew, and I love it, but for some reasons, I just really really hate hemming.

      It's so boring!

    14. I’ve been in this hobby 14 years and I’ve still never finished the dolls I started on like they baaaaarely have faceups and clothes, spare faceplates in a box unpainted, never got round to blushing the hands.

their bodies aren’t standard sizes so I just... couldn’t justify $$ on suits especially for the boys only to have them not fit, and I get nervous when they’re out for aesthetics, and I can’t display them because of UV and my dog, so... I have dolls, in a box. I look at what other people are making and I just feel like I can’t achieve it because my standards for myself are too high.

I should have bought full sets, I think, I’d have gotten more enjoyment out of them.
Also pretty miffed that Dollshe has gone bad before I managed to get a tan Bowie

    15. I would say for me would be when I have been looking for a specific doll and I give up and purchase another doll. Right after I purchase this other doll..the doll I had been searching for comes up forsale. It seems to never fail.

    16. Lol, I see I am not alone. I wonder why only hemming is that awful? I mean, embroidery or plain sewing are not that much faster, but I'm not disgusted by it.

But...I gave up hemming yesterday! I cut up some hemming tape to fit the dress for my doll! Sure it's less elegant when you look at the inside of the garnment and it cost a bit more than just thread...but it's so, so much faster!

For the foreseable future, I feel like I will only do hems by that method.

EDIT: It doesn't hold... T_T It's back to hemming the hard, boring way, I guess.

    17. My biggest pet peeve is...myself. I did fine during the first months of quarantine, did miltiple dresses and three face-ups. But I think things are getting to me, I can't bring myself to start something new. I hope spring will help. lack of sunshine weights heavy on me, I have plenty of plansand I'll do fine once I start. I long for meetups though.

    18. Oh gosh! Why are you attacking me?? XD I'm newer to the hobby but this is something I worry about - that the ideas I have (which honestly just came to me last night for the one girl I have and the boy on his way) will never come to fruition because what I'm looking for either 1) doesn't exist, 2) is more expensive than I can just say "oh yeah just get it NBD, 3) will be challenging for me to craft myself and even tho I have that desire will I ever have the time/space/talent to complete. :atremblin

But, yknow, there's still time. I've seen some awesome tutorials and reducing yellowing and maybe there's a reason you haven't quite gotten around to those completed tasks yet. Not quite the same, but often the fiance and I will find a show we didn't think to get into or just took a few years to start and when we do end up starting it... it gives us something longer to enjoy, where we don't have to wait for the next part etc. And when we look at it that way it doesn't seem such a loss to not have gotten to the thing right away.

Anyways, I hope you are able to enjoy the hobby in a way that works for you. :thumbup

    19. When people selling a doll mark it as OOAK or One-Off when it’s just a regular faceup not by the company (or famous faceup artist).

Um, everyone’s dolls are ooak by that definition.

I get excited to see the doll, then realize it’s an ok quality faceup and possibly a free t-shirt. :XD:

    20. I get into these niche hobbies and it feels special for a while until the frustration wins out. Just like machine knitting or other pursuits, the resources aren’t there to get what I want and after a while the hunt becomes more frustrating than intriguing.

I just wanna walk into a bjd store and try on a suit, y’know?! Or have a face up shop in my city with insurance and a reputation and I don’t have to worry about dolls getting damaged in the mail or the artist ghosting me...

woth shipping to my country it’s so expensive if something isn’t the right size either.

I have to learn to do everything myself and I love to sew but hate to draft but even finding or scaling doll patterns is such a bitch I just put them in the box and dream.
