1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread* - pt.2

Jul 13, 2017

    1. This! I have a Myou boy with the new/slim 45cm body with dainty little 5.2cm feet and everything is too chunky for him. Stuff that looks nice on my other 1/4 guys is comically large on him, even "girly" shoes (which are very much not his style), and it's so sad because I adore this body.

    2. I recently got a dog and ALL my doll stuff is slowly collecting dog hairs. Ugh, I have yet to find a way to get rid of it and keep it from happening.

Also, shipping costs. No way that shipping cost are really 180 dollars!:aeyepop::evil: That's 1/3 of a doll..

    3. Ha ha ha ha ha. I wanted to find out how much it would cost to ship a small, cheap vinyl doll from the US to someone in Europe. USPS told me priority international shipping started - STARTED - at $50 for a tiny box.

Meanwhile, somehow, someone in China can ship the same thing to me for $2? How does this work?

    4. I’ve found that when I ship, using online courier services (NetParcel) gets the price lower ($50 instead of $95 in store for instance.) but with less flights happening, and some couriers refusing service to certain areas (like last year, dollmore couldn’t ems ship to Canada, but could ship DHL?) I’m actually not shocked by the shipping increases.

180 is pretty steep. The most I think I’ve paid recently was 125, for three dolls intercontinentally (granted, this was secondhand). From companies I’ve never had shipping exceed 100, before 2021, but it’s happened twice now. Depending on how many flights are going out to your area/your country’s restrictions, that 180 could be inflated, but might not be

    5. Hooo boy, do I have an list. I guess that's what I get for being in this hobby around 15 years ..

      1. No plus sized SD dolls
      2. No SD dolls that look over 30
      3. The proportions on most dolls that are supposed to be babies and children
      4. How few POC sculpts there are out there
      5. Same as above, but wigs
      6. Bony doll bodies that look starved and tortured being popular. It gives a big pro-ana vibe and I totally loathe it
      7. 3d facial hair never really looks right :...(
      8. Dolls with such short release time, you have to already have had the money put away before it existed to be able to buy it
      9. How BJD YouTube is dwindling
      10. How hard it is to find good animals with the same scale and level of realism. Even with anime type dolls, it feels like any pet toy is way too realistic, way too cartoony, or out of scale. I just want my girls to have pets that look like they're from the same planet lol

    6. Sigh. I *was* such a huge fan of DollyTube, but now there seems to be a huge surge in recast defenders, and it's infuriating. I'll sub a channel, enjoy some unboxing videos, and then *BOOM* - recasts. Followed by whining that, "I'm being bullied!"

So now, it's OT dolls or bust. It's gotten so bad that I'm afraid to watch any BJD YouTuber - and I'm sorry if that's contributing to the decline in BJD YouTubers.

    7. @IndigoFrogs @MaleficentMrsofEvil I wonder also if part of the YouTube dwindling issue comes from the feeling that in order to be "on YouTube" these days, one has to attempt to keep up with the production quality increases of other kinds of channels.

I used to be so into YouTube back in the day, when it felt like real people making fun and funny stuff, and personally any time I've thought of going back to it I've felt that there's just no way to stand out in a sea of other content that is made by people with great equipment and production teams. While logically I know that the arenas for different niches may provide different experiences, it just feels like a much more intimidating place.

    8. I FEEL THIS.

Or everything under the bjd tag is Monster High and that's also not what I'm looking for. There's less than a handful of dolly YouTubers that I watch now, and it's just not enough content.

    9. YouTube can unfortunately burn you out pretty quickly. It sometimes felt like a chore when I was making videos, and I got tired of feeling that way about a hobby that’s meant to be enjoyed. I’m always amazed at the YouTubers that can put out 1-3 beautifully edited videos every single week. Kudos to them.

    10. 180 was for one doll though a dealer.
When I checked the shipping cost with another dealer it was free..
Same doll, same company, same address. Just a different dealer.

    11. THIS THIS THIS!!! I have a lot of characters that are darker skinned and it's so difficult to find sculpts that both suit the character and are available in tan resin. *_*

      • x 5
    12. Not just the skin, but the features! Dolls with anime features in dark brown aren't POC representation to me.
Dolls with dark skin and diverse features are.

    13. Exactly this. Shipping has gotten absolutely ridiculous for a lot of places...

Then again, shipping has *always* been ridiculous when it comes to some destinations... About six or seven years ago, I sold two of my large-scale Soom SG dolls to different buyers in Russia. I'm on the US west coast. Getting those dolls to their new owners each cost over a hundred dollars. So, yeah... as steep as they sound, scary shipping totals are nothing new. They've just gotten a lot more common.

    14. Opposite situation, but I bought some dolls from a Russian seller downsizing, and I live in western Canada. Can confirm that it’s still over 100 to travel that far (well worth it once they get here though!)

    15. Damn, that’s impressively steep, especially with one dealer being free (this is why I seem to keep ordering from Alice’s, despite the pp fees)

    16. Speaking of shipping, I don't like when a seller charges you more than double what it cost to actually ship the item. I got a package today that I paid $60 shipping on and it only cost them $27.30. I get that ebay charges you fees on shipping but they don't charge THAT much!

    17. @IndigoFrogs @MaleficentMrsofEvil @dxgirly Yeah the youtubes... I've been making on and off videos for YT since 2014. I enjoy sharing my dolls but it's really hard to find other creators. The algorithim isn't concerned with your interest in BJDs they just push whatever is getting many views. Which means finding smaller yt'ers has become so much harder because they just won't pop up naturally you actually have to know their handle and actively find them.

I also agree with YT becoming an actual job for so many people, you feel discouraged to continue making lowkey chatty videos that don't have hours of editing and professional gear behind it.

I also think it has to do with the fact that some of the 'bigger' creators who were popular in 2014-2018 have stopped making videos which makes other people less inspired to produce content- or so it seems anyway.

It makes me really sad to see that they have gone and I really miss watching a lot of BJD videos where people just enjoy chatting and sharing their dolls. The most recent YTer I found is TinyTinkers, I really enjoy watching her and she inspired me to start uploading more frequently but it's also hard if you aren't constantly working on or buying new things/dolls. *sigh*
