1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread* - pt.2

Jul 13, 2017

    1. Companies not making shoes that fit soom dolls. And when you DO find the right size, they don't make them in boot style, just fancy dress shoes. My boy only wears boots. T_T This is unfair.
Guess it's time to expand my sewing knowledge and learn how to cobble shoes.

    2. Company photos that are so dramatically styled and photo-shopped that you cannot see what the doll really looks like.
I hate it when only half a face is showing, from a weird angle, or there is gauze or mist covering part of the doll. Sure it looks artistic and clever, but if I am going to pay X amount of money for something, I want to know what it looks like before I buy. PLEASE doll companies, show the artsy fartsy photos if you have to, but also include a photo of the doll in its unadorned state.
Its because of this that I spend a lot of time seeking out box opening videos. Often it is the only way to see what a doll really looks like.

    3. Dollshe has me pretty annoyed right now. It was recently revealed that they haven't even done the preliminary 3-D printing work for the mature tinies they sold 3 years ago! I want the doll I ordered, but jeesh what an irresponsible way to do business.

    4. When a new BJD collector just buys all the preorders and new accessories for their dolls that won’t get to them till xx amount of months/ years then post them (or boast) in their social media accounts. Yes, I get that we get all excited and giddy when we get new dolls but geez, to post every single thing you just ordered is such a huge turn off for me. This collector does not even have a single doll in their hands yet and has like 9-10 dolls and counting on pre-order. I don’t know maybe just me but I noticed that they message people asking where did you get this and that.

    5. I'm curious, what are your pet peeves when it comes to BJDs? With the dolls, with the hobby, etc.

Personally, I cannot stand it when a doll can't sit up on its own. This is one of the major reasons why I'll sell dolls, because it bothers me that much. I tolerate this issue in one (1) doll, because she's my favorite :XD:

So what drives you all nuts?

    6. for me, I'd say it's the occasional head flopping. I know how to fix it/reduce it, but I got two dolls where fixes just don't work solidly enough cause of the way the neck joint is shaped.

    7. I'm sure I have more than the ones listed here, but:
      • O-face sculpts displayed in clothing and accessory listings in shops.
      • Chicken Dance arms: when a doll can't keep their arms straight or in another position, and keeps defaulting to bent elbows.
      • My Ringdoll boy's knees: they like to unlock when trying to get the dude to stand (wiring has helped this to a degree).
      • Finding trousers for my curvy girl, since most girl clothing is lolita, cutesy, for more slender frames, or focused on skirts, dresses or bikinis.
      • Discovering something clothing-wise that works perfectly for one of my crew—only to discover it's only available in a different scale than them.

      • x 12
    8. I’ll second the O-face sculpts for clothing models, it immediately turns me off the listing.

Dolls with deep eye walls that make it difficult to seat the eye correctly.

When my dolls are on display, I can’t stand it if a pose is unnatural. I have to fix it so they look comfortable.

    9. Pointy nipples.

I don't want to have to either give my doll a padded bra or take sandpaper to her so she can wear clothes without her nipples saying hello.

    10. YES. This also annoys me so much. I actually just traded for a doll with a sanded bust and it's fantastic. May do that to my others soon.

      • x 2
    11. Listings for clothing that are all "arty" photography and no plain straight-on full-length shots of the whole outfit/garment/whatever.

I want to know if the trousers fit to the waist or are low slung, but all the photos show it hidden an untucked shirt.
I want to know if the skirt comes to above or below the knee but all the shots are angled from above (or are with the doll seated), so you can't tell.... etc.

You are selling a garment - show off the garment not your sodding pretentions to arty-photography!!!

    12. I love Crobi dolls. I hate how unstable my SD boy is. Like, a light breeze will cause him to face plant because his legs are so skinny.

      • x 2
    13. Animal ears and human ears on one doll so the doll has 4 ears. Drives me bonkers. If they have animal ears they dont need human ones. Cosplays are fine, but if its obviosly not, no thank you. I can understand not wanting to cut off the human ears but at least try to hide the human ones with hair or something.

      • x 9
    14. Companies that don't show a blank face version of their doll yet the base price doll does not come with faceup. I especially hate it when the doll is limited so you can't even wait to see owner pictures since by then it will be long sold out.

Or to a more extreme, I cannot find a picture of the body for this doll anywhere.

      • x 10
    15. For dolls:
*Badly constucted joints. Especcially ones where a locking ledge has been put in in order to make the doll work at all. Like dolls with elbows that can only be full on straight of all the way bent, because of badly balanced joints and/or huge locks or dolls who only can stand at the cost of just about every other leg pose. I mind it a lot less on fantasy bodies where there is unusual problems to work around, but for regular humans there is no excuse. It's been done well by hundreds of artists, even me! It's basic ball joints, not brain surgery. I swear it's not that hard to get right.
This annoys me even more when the sculptor has tried to get fancy with the joints, like seriously, if yhou can't even master the basic ones, how does it seem like a good decision to complicate things? I've seen it in artist dolls (fine if it's the first one or two, we all start somewhere), in budget dolls (probably not enough profit made to defend the extra working hours to make it work better) and in higher cost an otherwise very well made dolls (this one always baffles me, but not all artists are good engineers and vice versa). But at some point it gets silly. When you cast a doll you duplicate all your hard work, thats's how profit is made despite the crazy amount of hours involved in the original sculpt, but if it's not well constructed you also duplicate the flaws.
With that said I have knowingly bought a number of dolls suffering from this because there were other redeeming features, but still!
*Sales pages that show a pretty picture of the doll, repeated from just sliiightly different angles about fifty times in huge sizes and then if you are super lucky there is like one straight on blank plicture of the head at the very bottom. And if there are measurements available they will be right there at the bottom too, so if you want to just pop in quickly to check something you have to wait for e-v-e-r-y s-i-n-g-l-e p-h-o-t-o to load before you can check them. And in just one of those pictures were slower to load, well, just when you found the bottom it shows up and you have to chase the measurements even further down the page.
And no undressed picture of the body, unless you are super lucky and you can find those in a separate listing for the body sold on it's own somewhere else on the site.

      For accessories:
*Sales pictures not showing the scale accurately. Most commonly in shoes available in several sizes, but only shown in the largest size in pictures to make it look in scale. And then you find out that the smaller sizes have the same size of eyelets, the same thickness of soles etc. and therefore look like clown shoes.
Or shirts that look fine in lager scale that are made in a smaller scale with the same size of buttons. :doh
Sometimes I am fine with compromises and sometimes I'm not and I want the data I need to make an informed decision.
*Vague and inaccurate sizing and measurements. Again, shoes are the big one, especcially for really small feet. For a big doll a few millimeters is not the end of the world, but if the entire foot is less than 20mm to begin with? Oh, you better believe it will matter.
Shopping online is always a little bit of a gamble, but the more good quality information I can get, the better the chances are for getting something that actually works for the intended doll.

So, to sum it up: I can excuse a lot of things, but I want to know what I are getting, what I am paying for and what to expect.

    16. - Excessive photoshopping on doll pics when shopping

      - ALL pictures being taken at weird angles and cropped weirdly so you can barely tell whats going on.

-Unnecessary parts in joints that make posing hard

-Lack of SD sized round glasses in the shops and easy for me to buy. Like seriously I see them everywhere, but cant find any I can actually buy. >:C

    17. It's so frustrating when the outfit is photographed from the front only. BJDs are cheap, and neither are a lot of clothing lines. If I'm going to pay a pretty penny, I want to know what it looks like from the side and back.

      • x 3
    18. Quite possibly the best typo I've seen in a long while.
I'm new to the hobby so no pet peeves yet!

    19. "Loli/Shota" themed doll sales images. No not Lolita fashion, the "fetish wear and hot pants/bared thighs and sexy faces" on dolls who look.... very underage... It's creepy. No way around it - I find that entire "Aesthetic" as a selling look extremely disturbing.

    20. Dolls sporting eyes that are too large for the sculpt.

Dolls with eyes that aren't placed correctly so--off-centered and/or "dead" eyed.

Sales posts that don't have clear, attractive pictures of what you're selling, and then sellers posting why they're items never sell.
