1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread* - pt.2

Jul 13, 2017

    1. @HiroKenzan I know some people are actually content without faceups; however, I think many people have similar situations to mine, where we just don't have the time/money/resources to do a faceup or pay someone else to.
BJDs are an expensive, niche hobby and it has attracted people of all ages, so not everyone is in a situation where they have the steady income to consistently invest in the hobby --- which brings me to MY rant: I'm frustrated with my current situation where I go back and forth between my school in one state and my home in another. I don't have enough time between traveling to work on customizing my BJD, and not enough time to get a part time job anywhere for money for it. :sigh I really want to start working on my blank doll! It's annoying that I have her but can't do anything with her.

    2. @aestellica I suspected it was something along those lines, and definitely understand since the doll is already so much money xD And I'm sorry you have to deal with that! I know the feeling...when I was in school I felt like I barely had time for anything except school Dx I can't imagine how I would have dealt with it if I had been a doll owner back then!

    3. @HiroKenzan I'm one of those doll owners who has multiple dolls without face ups.. Which IS a pet peeve of mine. I can do face ups, but (in my opinion) they just aren't good enough, so I'd rather have blank dolls than ones with 'poor' face ups. This is driving me nuts as I feel like I can't share my dolls as they are 'incomplete'. I've looked into commissioning face up artists, and there are more to choose from than ever. For some reason sending off my irreplaceable heads is too intimidating, so I procrastinate and the doll family grows. And I get more frustrated. :sweat

    4. Thinking you've found the perfect sculpt for a character, purchasing a full doll for the head (because of course they don't sell heads separately), and then getting the head and realizing it's all wrong. This has happened to me a couple of times now, despite doing a ton of digging and looking at owner photos and proper photoshoots and the blank sculpt and ugh;;

    5. @kurogane Ugh yeah, that's frustrating, I have yet to actually own a BJD (my first ones are still on the way) so I'm not sure how it would feel to send off a head for a faceup, especially since I do plan on doing them myself. It would be really nerve wracking though I assume, since you don't know if it'll get damaged in the mail or how long it will take, etc. I guess my best advice for that is, if you want to make your own faceups, just keep practicing! Worst case scenario, if it doesn't look how you want, you can wipe it and start over, and keep practicing :)

    6. The thing that annoys me is..... my indecisiveness haha. I decided some time ago to sell two (rare) sculpts that I had because I just wasn't bonding with them at all. After they sold, I realized the reason why I haven't bonded with them is because their faceups, despite how beautiful they are, are just wasn't right for how I envisioned them. Ended up buying them again later on from other owners for a jacked up price. :'-)

    7. I think one of my biggest gripes so far is the dolls that you can't buy the head/body separately. I want to support the companies, but I'm going to HAVE to go with the re-sale market to get two of the heads I want because I simply can't drop $700+ just for the head!

This is probably just me being picky, but; no pomeranian BJD pet.

On the topic of BJD pets, people not taking pictures of them next to 70cm dolls to show their scale. Or if they do, not specifying how tall the doll in the photo is.

Finding the perfect head for a doll and the order window has ended. Or finding the perfect head for a doll and the person who owns it never lists the make or model.

How hard it is to find realistic heads that don't have too big of eyes! I want all of my boys to be pretty realistic, so it's tough when the general style of the dolls I see is so stylized.

I think that's everything for now!

    8. Right now, my indecisiveness with buying things for my doll is really getting to me! I keep going between a dark wavy wig and a pale straight wig because on one hand I'd prefer the dark hair but I don't want my doll or its clothes to get stained but on the other the pale color is too beautiful to not want and suits the personality that I'm going for. Plus when it comes to eyes, I'm so dazzled by all the different colors and designs that I can't choose anything at all because everything seems to be the perfect fit! Hopefully I can make a decision on both a wig and set of eyes soon.

    9. bjd hobby is something for me to get away from my tiresome daily routine.
whenever something like this happens, it really makes me upset and the hobby suddenly
becomes a stress. I like to keep my hobby a bit private. I do post pictures of my dolls from time to time
but whenever people gets involved, there is possibility of discord and i really do not want ruining my
little getaway. Seriously, who cares whether someone copies your doll. bjd is a pretty small community and
sometimes, different people might have similar ideas when it comes to customizing dolls.

    10. When I first started in the hobby in 2008, I was annoyed by the illegal copies of my doll Isao Nanjou, the poorly sculpted copies with hideous faceup showed up all over ebay. I get a rude shock whenever I see the pictures. I was very angry and very hurt by the abuse. Now, 10 years years later, I am very happy that Isao lost popularity, thankful he is forgotten as fans move on to newer sculpts with new design and themes. I now enjoy my old doll in peace.

    11. Custom fees that I have to pay whenever I order something over 25€ from a country that isn' t in the EU. It' s just annoying :/

    12. The lack of diversity in fantasy sculpts. You can do pretty much anything with fantasy sculpts but they tend to be the same things over and over again on the same body types. I just really want a chubby mermaid and a scrawny wendigo with a strange spine. It would be so cool to see different concepts on different body types once in a while.

    13. When you have a nice transaction with someone and go leave them good feedback, but they don't leave you any, like... I wanna build my reputation just like you do, don't skimp me like this. It kind of makes me wanna go back and add a little footnote to the feedback I left them. :XD:

    14. Yes, that happened to me too, for my very first one to boot. Still waiting.

    15. Word! Though our limit here in Germany is a little higher and also, if the doll's not assembled or completed, you can pass it through customs as "model kit", which costs less ...

    17. These couple of days, I have a few things that are annoying me.

      - sculpts: you know, how you're looking for that one sculpt to suit a character, but you had find the almost perfect sculpt, just that they don't seem to come in the facial expressions this character most commonly have. Eg, one character I want has those firm, angular faces. He also has a giant, semi grinning smirk. I have seen that on a female sculpt with soft angles to the face, not on a male one yet -.-

      - I found a lady who was taking commissions (on Facebook) for making clothes for my girl. Her skills seems pretty good and I wanted to test it for more elaborate clothings in the future. I ordered a few sets, and I didn't factor that she's in Europe into account, so imagine my nasty shock when it costs 750 my currency, which was equivalent to a Volks basic doll ish. But ok, whatever, my fault. I was going to go through with it anyways,

She stated the pre order was for orders to be processed in October, so I said I wanted a layaway till then. She said ok. But wanted a deposit via friends and family on PayPal. Initially I hesitated, but as it was only for the deposit (so she claims), which wasn't refundable anyways, I was cool with it. So I went ahead.

Now she claims the clothes are done, and she wants the rest of the amount to be paid by this week. Not only that, she wants it all paid via family and friends.

I have stood my ground this time and said I wanted to pay in goods and services only. She got upset. Said that she's reliable, won't scam me, she's work hard on the clothes as per my specifications and has always conducted her business this way etc etc. I pointed out the screen shot where she stated it's only friends and family for a deposit.

English isn't her first language, so now she turned to her daughter. Who's trying to resolve this now.

Don't get me wrong, this lady was nice, she has been kind and understanding when I couldn't pay one of my layaway points. She did work hard and communicated well. But this is a business transaction. I have even offered to pay her fees, I just want to pay her via goods and services. I don't see why it's so difficult. For that amount of money, I want to be covered. Why can't she just understand that?

    18. I understand that Paypal's protection for sellers isn't very good, but it's really not appropriate to conduct business through friends/family. Does she understand that it's against the terms of service? People get their accounts banned for doing things like that.

    19. Frankly, I don't think she does. In many ways, I think she doesnt know much about online stuff, and this is probably one of them. I get that not many payments support sellers well enough, but still... there's still some support if she uses goods and services.

    20. Waiting is a big pet peeve of mine also! I like instant gratification, and for some reason spending money doesn't register for me until the item I bought if in my hands... So until then I keep buying things and end up broke (yeah... I know this is a "me" problem, I suck)

Also my postman is the worst ;-; I'm so worried for when my first doll comes. He never knocks and doesn't treat my packages very gently. I complained once about him not knocking for packages and the next time I had a package that didn't need signing, it was shoved very roughly into our mail box >.< so I think he hates me.

And my number one pet peeve HAS to be FREAKIMG CUSTOMS FEES. Now. I've not yet received my first doll, but I have bought other expensive collectibles from overseas (none of which as expensive as bjd) and customs has fucking killed me more than once with some ridiculous fees that I always seem to forget about when I'm managing my money lol RIP me and f**k you Canadian customs
