1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread*

Dec 11, 2014

1. ... Dafuq? :nowords:

What irks me right now is not having a halfway light-protected corner big enough to build a decent doll setup. Who needs that many windows? *_*

2. To be fair, some of us DO say to hell with it, and go right ahead with our plans for dolls and characters that come from groups outside of our own... But I'm not going to hold it against anyone if they just don't want to deal with the potential drama. Some people are a lot more sensitive to criticism and social brow-beating than others, and there's no sense in letting conflict ruin what's supposed to be a fun and relaxing pastime for them.

I wish I was exaggerating, but that's more or less word-for-word what a friend was told in reference to one of her girls. There aren't enough face-palms in the world to express what either of us thought about that.

3. I too believe in double posts... o_0

4. My point was less that every individual must create uber diversely, and more that there is a diversity problem in the BJD hobby as a whole and people are allowed to feel frustrated by it.

5. I don't know whether you know Battlestar Galactica, but if you do - Adama got your back. ;)

6. Ah yeah, this echoes my thoughts very well.

It's not a matter of individually checking off that everyone has a dark doll in their collection, it's just there is a big lack of them. Of course companies are partly to blame since more often than not a sculpt is only available in lighter colors, like InkyBear said, but that is also due to demand and the lack of it for darker dolls.

7. Oh my, there's so much that annoys me on a daily basis xD

- Wonky eyes. I'm still baffled at how people don't tend to see that the eyes are pointing at different directions or are wide eye staring into nothingness. Though, needs to be said, I have a phobia of staring eyes so I'm sensitive when it comes to that xD
- Companies that don't sell their heads/bodies separately, when you really love the head but can't stand the body (here's looking at you, Iplehouse -___-;;).
- Doll-proportions. I just want a doll that's realistically scaled, not with a big balloon head on scrawny shoulders :(
- High dome eyes. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....
- Companies that DON'T give you side views of their eyes, so you have no idea how high the dome is.
- Really nicely posed dolls and great photo, but the background looks a mess. I'm not even a tidy person myself, even so I'm annoyed seeing three empty coke bottles, last week's washing, empty bags, dirt, candy wrapping and just plain mess scattered all over the room while the doll is looking perfect.
- That there's no international site that can provide with resin match and an archive of different hybrids, to make it easier for us who likes to mix and match.
- People that sell second hand dolls at original price (plus their shipping and custom, plus extra shipping fee to me). Unless it's a limited, this just means I'll rather buy a new one, directly from the company. Sure, it'll take longer but at least I'll get a completely new doll that I won't be risking getting home with defects from a seller that won't take responsibility or with scratches or that's been yellowed.
- Shoes. Too big. Too small. To clumsy. Too big shoelace. WILL THERE EVER BE A PAIR OF SHOES THAT ACTUALLY FIT?
- Companies that won't let you know the shipping fee until you actually pay for the product.
- That so many companies are far off in the East, and with poor skills in English. It takes so long to ship, and if you need to contact the support, it doesn't always guarantee that they'll understand your issue anyway :(
- Out of scale buttons. ARGH. Pet peeve.
- Snap on buttons. Really, too much Barbie for me ;___;
- No side views of sculpts on companies sites. Are you trying to hide something? How is that nose tip and bridge looking from the side, eh?
- Being dependent on the dollar course, right now it's over 8 to 1 from Swedish kronor to dollar. Before summer it was 6 to 1. That's a lot when you're shopping for hundreds of dollars ;______;
- Having too much inspiration, and too little time, skill and money to make anything of it.
- The MSC being so bloody sensitive to use in the wintry climate of Sweden.
- Too. Fluffy. Wigs.

Oh dear, such a long list xD I need to go find a "what's so great about this hobby"-thread now, because really, all the positive things around BJDs are outweighing these few pet peeves of mine. I love this hobby OuO

8. I think the reason the issue of lack of diversity sparks a little bit of discomfort among some posters is because the rant is directed at other collectors, not at companies or things aren't specifically aimed at people (ie frizzy hair, lack of diverse clothing options, dolls who won't stand upright). I think if the pet peeve had been worded in that people are frustrated that companies don't offer more sculpts in various skin tones, then I'm sure many collectors would agree. If the sculpts I bought to suit my darker characters had been available in brown then YES! I would have absolutely bought them in that shade instead of white! But plain and simple, they weren't, so I just have to roll with it and try to find a way to make them still work. It's not my fault, and I'm sure other collectors don't like feeling like they're being pointed at because they don't like some of the few companies that offer darker dolls even if we genuinely DO want them. So I can understand why people feel defensive. It's not a matter of-this person hates frizzy wigs, she must hate MY dolls wig since it sometimes gets flyaways! It's insinuating something deeper which isn't entirely fair when the options just simply aren't available for many. And I think it's weird how people can assume by looking at someone else's collection that because they're all white that the owner ONLY thinks of them as such instead of the vast array of other light-skinned people.

I'm going to throw this out there. I'm annoyed there aren't "thicker" dolls-chubby, pudgy, untoned, fat, whatever you want to call it. I legitimately wish there were more available that weren't in tiny size. But I don't begrudge anyone's collection because all their dolls are thin. I just wish companies would explore the huge diversity of body types that really exist instead of sticking to the same rail thin model-type frames that saturate the market.

9. This. :) The only thing that's "right" is what's right for everyone's individual collection. For me, personally, I would also love to see more of EVERYTHING, especially in tinies. More body types, more skintones, more unique features.

10. Of course they're allowed to feel frustrated by it. What they're NOT allowed to do, though, is make other people feel bad about their dolls just because they don't have any tan or fantasy coloured dolls (because they don't like the available colour choices or available sculpts or whatever). Because, unless they're somehow personally connected, it's not really any of their business what kind of dolls other people prefer.

11. Environmental resin?? Confession blogs? I feel like I've been so out of the loop, I did take a long hiatus from the hobby and just came back recently, but I hadn't heard of those things. ^^;;;

I can mostly deal with some things that could be better about the hobby, but I do have my pet peeves.
* When looking for MSD girl clothes (mainly cute dresses) they all come in black or dark colors, and what do SD girls get? Cute light pastel colors that I wish the MSD ones had. Ugh!!
* Wigs for sale in the second hand market that are not shown on a doll, just lying flat and you can't even tell what they style looks like.
* Also getting a wig from Leeke and thinking, "wtf, did I get the wrong style?" cause it looks nothing like their picture.

12. indigoparaflax

Oh I LOVE seeing a $400 beautiful doll sitting in the middle of a filthy room! lol
...cringe.
That is probably my biggest pet peeve.
I think this hobby should be for everybody.
That being said...If you can't keep a clean house and it's aperant there is a lack of pride in your home, why the hell pay so much money for something else that's just going to be trashed in a matter of weeks, or days for that matter.
I'd be horrified if I posted a picture and there was dust...let alone trash laying around.
Oh I see that too. THICK dust. Like not dusted in months. G.R.O.S.S.

13. me too annoy by doll's pics taken from a bottom angle.
And sold out doll on doll companies page.:doh:doh

14. I do think this is going to change in time in the BJD-hobby. A few years ago, it was still difficult to produce dolls in a different colour than 'very light whatever' and the first attempts haven't always been successful (blue doll turning green, dark doll falling apart etc). Tan dolls have only recently grown in number and been readily available. For now, the majority of these dolls are very realistic looking, which is not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm sure that the more stylized dolls will also come in all colours soon. Especially the smaller artists have a tendency to bring out sculpts in all the colours of the rainbow. Mastering a new technique takes time. Now that many seem to know how to produce strongly hued resin, they'll be offered more. And with that, they'll be added to all sorts of collections.

I do! I'd love to have more windows, because I need light for my pictures, but not enough room to store all kinds of lighting setups before I start to get crazy 'cause of the clutter.

15. I agree. Also, I just find it sad/odd that this topic is what has people feeling defensive. Haven't seen one person on this thread defending their frizzy-haired dolls or messy rooms as a personal preference. And new pet-peeve for me: When a company discontinues a sculpt without any warning!! :...( Why Withdoll?!

16. I'm afraid to take any photos of my dolls because my home is a fixer upper and I haven't finished fixing it up. The one room (living room) I did paint/decorate has scuff marks on the walls now from careless kids and partner. My kid destroyed my window blinds, and, I have pets... so they shed! So, I just don't take photos of them, only have them out when I am playing with them. I keep them safe and put away most of the time. I wish I could keep them out in a room box that could be left alone! I suppose I am right in that I should wait until pets die and kids grow until I try the photography aspects of the hobby. So, my pet peeves is trying to enjoy my dolls like lots of other people do, but cannot without risk or embarrassment or damage to my dolls I cherish so much.

Also, weather that is so frequently bad, I can't use MSC most of the year!

17. HAHA the first post on this thread made me think of something that annoys me.
When someone has more adorable dolls that me :...(

18. When I buy a wig and it's just not what I imagined.
When I buy anything and it doesn't fit.
seeing spam of poorly dressed and painted dolls, like 30 pictures of the same doll and pose.
putting on a wig cap.
The no sock/shoes and underwear personally bother me with my dolls haha My new girl has no socks atm and it's bothering me so much.
when I cant find owner pictures of a doll I'm deciding on.

all I can think of right now.

19. + Frowny faces. So many frowny faces! (Sorry frowny-face lovers, I still think you and your dolls are rad).
+ Wonk eyes. <__>
+ Wigs that look like they're trying to escape.
+ Wait times. I'm so poor, it annoys me that I have to wait MONTHS for something I've already paid for. It's MINE! Give it to me NOW!
+ Overexposed photos.
+ Clothing measurements! Give me the clothing measurements!
+ Company face-ups. No disrespect to anyone who likes them, but most company face-ups are just unappealing to me. The few dolls I have with one, I hate it. I'll never get another company face-up, because they just don't suit my tastes at all.
+ Confession blog name-dropping. Come on, bro. Play nice with the other kids.

20. Nothing about anyone else's doll collection bothers me as it is their collection and they can choose to buy what they want and what they do with it. What I can't understand is why some people think to tell others what they should have in theirs. Such as have a different skin color in your group to show diversity. That is like saying you should also collect all sizes, genders etc.... I choose my dolls to fit certain characters that are either my OCs or other characters I like. For example all my dolls are male and it is nobodies business to say I should get a female sculpt. If someone wants fantasy skin color or even a less common dark ebony color that's fine also but it doesn't mean I should too. If I do not have a certain type represented it does not mean I am racist, sexist etc.... It is just that these dolls were my choice for my characters.
Another thing is that I don't really care what peoples photos are like. They took the picture and were happy enough to show of their doll that they are proud of. Maybe their house is not so tidy or a great background but I do not know their circumstances so I can not judge them.
I think that criticizing others is what annoys me most. There are many more important things in life to be concerned about than these trivial things. I think the important thing is we should all just enjoy our dolls and accept what other people do with theirs.
