1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread*

Dec 11, 2014

    1. I hate getting eyes that don't sit right in heads, or wigs that say they're one size but fit way smaller or bigger than they should, or clothing that should fit a slim MSD but fit like a bulky one instead. Wrong sizing in general bugs me sooo much, it feels like such a waste of time having ordered an item and it's off by a few mm or cm.

    2. Companies who don't put up photos of the blank/nude doll, or who put the blank photos in another part of the site, such as on the page for just ordering the head. Would it be so hard to get just a blank photo on the doll's page so I know what you're actually selling me? Especially if the doll has a very dark faceup. Also, why are you censoring a doll's crotch area? I'm going to see the doll completely naked anyway, and I'd like to see exactly what I'm getting...

    3. I keep seeing humidity coming up... for those in the US, I will offer you this wonderful humidity forecast site I found recently. There's of course areas that stay pretty deep in the high humidity, but I've found that there's normally a dip in the afternoon here, which has become my time to quickly get out and spray another coat of sealant.

And my next rant, now that the last one's resolved... I'm still struggling with how to handle a mod I'm working on, where the joints are too darn tight for paint on the pieces! I think unfortunately I'm going to have to find a way to carefully dremel the joints larger, except I don't have a dremel yet, don't have a good place to do the work, and am nervous about dremeling too far and weakening the pieces... :sigh I knew it was going to be a complex mod, but I wasn't expecting the extra problem of tight joints.

    4. I'm right in the middle of the humidity hell, vicemage. It's awful! I have a faceup and some tattoos I wanna work on but then.. humidity. that's half my rant right there. the other half is just....lack of interest in my doll stuff recently. It's been guh.. 9 years? But I don't have friends with dolls nearby anymore and I don't get out as much as I used to to take pictures, or sew... it's just been hard keeping motivated. I still want to collect and I like looking but I just.. am lazy.

    5. I totally understand that motivation problem. Right now I'm having a hard time getting motivated too. I want to sew an 1840's ensemble for my Iplehouse Pamela but I dont know the first thing about reading patterns and understanding all the vocab. I just got some really nice patterns for a chemise, drawers, and corset though and I want to follow through with making them and the dress... but I'm finding it really hard to get motivated to do anything. Especially learning how to use my new sewing machine that I havent turned on once since I bought it in January or February (cant even remember when I bought it O.o).

I even bought alpaca hair to make wigs with and havent done anything with it either. -sigh-

    6. Because in Asia you have to cencor genitalia. It's the law there.

      My rant:
The taxes. In my country you have to pay taxes on dolls, which makes me spend 200USD on a 900USD purchase.
      My AoD costed me 200USD.

    7. Right now my biggest rant is about exchange rates. Gaah! I'm Canadian, and most sites I've seen list in USD. Sometimes I forget that sites don't automatically do the exchange rate, so when I went to order my first doll, I ended up being nearly $200 short after the differences from USD to CAD! :...( Took extra time to save, and even then the exchange rate somehow ended up being different than what I'd calculated and I went a bit over in my spending. What pain...

    8. Yeah, but not all companies do that. And not in all photos either. One company I looked at had two photos where there wasn't any censors, but all the others were awkwardly using the hands. (Not to mention, if there's a unified Asian law code, I haven't seen one!) Plus... If you need to censor it in the seller's photos, why bother having distinct genitals in the first place? Which is actually something I've been wondering - I get that there's an aesthetic element to it, but why bother giving dolls genitals if they're not going to be very well done or if they get in the way of clothing? It's not a bad thing I guess (it's just a thing that is in this hobby) but it's always been a little odd to me that there's so few sculpts without genitalia, other than, well, as being something that happens in the hobby.

    9. Things that annoy me? I suppose I'm pretty new, but I think the number one thing that bothers me when I look from doll body to doll body is...

Oddly shaped doll boobs! Don't really like how some doll boobs come pre-squished and raised, as if wearing an invisible corset/pushup bra. It works if someone actually plans on dressing them in a corset, but what if I want her to look casual, or dress her in something that doesn't create megacleavage? Those same companies that make those squished boobs typically also suffer from bubbleboob syndrome. Y'know, boobs being perfect spheres stuck to a torso, instead of teardrop-shaped as they typically are. Not to mention odd nipple placement.. usually placed too high and too center. I could go on and on... I LOVE body sculpts that include natural-shaped breasts!

More of a minor annoyance, and my own personal issue that isn't very reasonable, is those permanently erect stab-an-eye-out nipples most have jutting out. Yeah, almost all female dolls I've seen have sculpted nipples.. but seriously, it must SUCK to be permanently stuck in a chilly room xD. I feel uncomfortable for my own nips just looking at em! Thankfully, those aren't too troublesome, however.. anyone can do light sanding to soften them.

    10. Yeah, I just realized another pet peeve -I want to do killer face ups, but don't have the skills! I know, practice a LOT, sigh. I guess today is a good day to practice....

    11. I can totally understand that; I went through a period like that for a few years a while back, and have only really been back into the hobby for a bit less than 2 years now. I had meetups around, and knew people with dolls around where I used to live, but I had awful roommates who would get mad if I had projects "sitting out" (as you do with dolls since much of it can't be rushed) and just lost the motivation to work on pretty much everything for a while, including dolls. It sucks while it's happening, but it can come back.

And it's humidity hell here again all weekend. I'm crossing my fingers that it lifts during the week, so I can get working on spraying my next project.

I actually bought one of those sculpts because I want her in corsets, and they're terrific for that!

I wish there were more uncensored photos of doll "bits," as well. Personally, it'd drive me more nuts if they didn't have anything at all, and whatever they have is never really a dealbreaker for me, but I'd like to know what I'm getting. And that goes for pictures of the doll in general, too. Sure those pretty pictures are great for getting attention, but at the end, I just want the nude body, front and back, and the blank head, front and profile. No photoshopping, no faceup, no fluffing, no fancy posing and artistic angles. Just plain, dull, straightforward pictures so I can see the potential of the doll outside the look they've chosen for it.

    12. Pet peeves! I have some:

-elastic that is too tight or too loose when you get the doll. My Kid Delf is so tightly strung that she can't sit, her head won't look down at all or stay straight, and she's absolutely unposable. My Delf Miyu is totally floppy! But she's really old so I understand. I wish I wasn't so lazy and would restring them!
-the scarcity of low-dome eyes. My Kid Delf has half open eyes and needs low-dome eyes and can I find them? Noooooo.
-other people having expectations for what you do with your doll collection. Like what sculpts you should buy, what companies, what merchants you should use, what kind of background your characters should have. And how much you should be willing to pay for a doll.
-that the day I found TWO brand new Creamy Mami full sets on Mandarake, I didn't have an extra $1400 to buy one. ;)
-my grail doll is not a popular sculpt so I can't find any owner shots. She's also discontinued and I doubt anyone will ever sell her on the MP.
-the absolutely crappy search function in the MP.
-Peakswoods discontinuing the FOC line before I could get a Goldie, Sky, and Yeru. :(
-Leekeworld only having Arien when I'm broke :p
-TOO LONG BANGS ON WIGS OMG HOW BIG DO YOU THINK THE FOREHEAD IS ON MOST DOLLS?!
-my Leeke Noella needing 22mm eyes, which are not easy to find in nice colors. I would really like some ED eyes for her.
-my apartment has the worst lighting in the universe and I have not gotten one good doll photo since I moved here.

    13. One of my recent pet peeves (after getting an order of IH wigs) - wigs that are supposedly SPECIFICALLY MADE for a certain doll size that DO NOT FIT!!! Same goes for shoes ~grrr~

    14. When I see a head selling for the same price I can get an entire (expensive) 60cm-ish range doll...and I actually want the head.

Because then the part of my mind that is impulsive is trying to buy it and the rational part of my brain is trying to stop me and it's fairly unpleasant. Feels like two people upstairs bickering like a married couple. Except they're not upstairs, they're in my brain. I suppose in general what I'm saying is that annoying feeling between wanting something and knowing that I shouldn't [buy it] because if I did I'd regret spending that much. I don't really care what people sell things at (it's their stuff after all) but the urge to throw all practicality when I do want it drives me up the wall. I wish I had enough self control to not even want it in the first place lol.

    15. I'm with you there Teleri. I find IH SID boys boots fit so snug it is near impossible to remove them without a massive fight. Last time I took my boys boots of the sole came away as it took so much wiggling and pulling to get it off his foot! I have now re-glued it but fear it will happen again next time. If they just made the shoes a little larger or the feet a little smaller!

    16. :( Feel your pain - I use socks to make sure I've some leverage (course the SOCKS end up damaged, but better that than the boots or even the resin!)

      • The fact that some companies don't have a tan skin option - come on, how gorgeous would some of Doll Chateau's dolls look in tan skin!? :aheartbea
      • Un-sanded seam lines.
      • Wig woes...

    17. There aren't a lot of things that bother me because I'm new to the hobby, but the one that I can't seem to handle is RUDE PEOPLE.
When people say rude things about your doll in- or unintentionally. I can't stand it.
It is THEIR doll and therefore the can make the doll look however they want.
I've met my fair share of rude people. Thanks for all of the lovely people here on DoA <3

    18. i hate making wigs...ahhhhhh so hard

i dislike some of the rude people in the hobby, but thankfully everyone on DOA seems to be lovely :)

i dislike the conflict on recasts...personally i don't like them but some people do and i believe that is their choice and they should be able to buy what they want without the hate.

one other thing i just have is i dislike seeing lots of gay guy characters and no gay girls...when i start up a nice collection im going to have a girl couple :)

    19. This one is really from instagram and tumblr, but I hate being in the bjd tag and seeing Monster High dolls, Azones, Disney Animator dolls, American Girl dolls, Ever After High dolls, basically dolls that are not bjds. I love all of those dolls, and I especially love seeing repaints and custom outfits! But when I want Azone I'll check out the Azone tag! My biggest pet peeve on instagram, though, are the selfies in the bjd tag. I don't care how much you think your make up makes you look like a doll, YOU'RE NOT A DOLL. Taking a selfie WITH your doll? Awesome, I want to see that. You think you're gorgeous? THAT'S ALSO GREAT, just tag it selfie! I really like to see BALL JOINTED DOLLS in the bjd tag!
