1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread*

Dec 11, 2014

    1. I have just a minor thing... but it keeps bothering me the same^^
When a doll company sells clothes especially made for their own line of dolls - and still the coats and jackets are sized as if they were worn directly on the resin, never taking into account the top a doll would be wearing underneath it. Seems like I have spent hours trying to coax shirt sleeves to go through jacket sleeves that were not meant to allow other garments through...

Also, trousers made for the exact doll line that the doll cannot sit down in without bursting all the seams. *Even if* the doll does not wear underpants beneath it, which I much prefer for realism's sake. Why else make underpants at all? Plus, these dolls are made to pose, right?

Really, it can't be too hard for professional doll taylors to size their patterns accordingly, can it?^^

    2. Quite new to this hobby, but I don't like it when you explicitly tell people not to touch your doll's face and they touch it anyway. :pout:

    3. This can't happen here but a huge peeve of mine that is starting to be prevalent in other places is off site linking to your images in your sales thread or post.

I don't mean posting a pic hosted on photobucket or flickr, but instead of making a full MP or sales post for what they want to sell they just link to their flickr and you have to dig through it all to figure out what is for sale and what isn't and heaven forbid they don't mark sold as sold....

It's just freaking annoying. Why not just make a sales post or thread properly?

Me having to dig through your albums on another site puts me off from wanting to spend my money with you.

It's just sloppy. Put it up on display or don't bother.

    4. When people put up a hybrid doll for sale and while they do talk about the head, they just don't give any info on the body at all!
Having to contact them to dig up that simple info is too much of a hassle, ugh.

    5. OK this may seem really mean but I don't like looking at bad faceups. Like, I'll hide the post if it's on Facebook. I guess my reason for this is because I'm trying to grow as an artist, and seeing bad faceups makes me feel less inspired and capable of doing a good faceup.
I guess I just have a taste for professional looking things. AND so, as long as I can conjure up something realistic, I'll keep doing that one thing.
So also if I see a doll that looks unpro or unfinished I cringe mentally.
:)NO OFFENSE TO THOSE WHOSE DOLLS ARE UNPRO/UNFINISHED. I UNDERSTAND WHY THEY'RE LIKE THAT AND I'M SURE YOU LOVE YOUR DOLL(S) AND SPENT LOTS OF MONEY ON THEM. IT'S JUST A PERSONAL TASTE, LIKE BROCCOLI OR MINT ICE CREAM :)
also like someone hearing the word "moist"

    6. My biggest gripe (and I am sure many of you will just roll your eyes and think this is in the wrong thread, BUT...) is that Ebay is now just awash with recast dolls. It's not just a few random items being resold, it seems to be the norm now in the UK at least. You also have plenty of shops selling fake BJD like this one that uses the manufacturer's own photos and even offers services like face-ups where they use photographs stolen from SDink:

Anyone who thinks recasts do no harm to the hobby as a whole is living in cloud-cuckoo land as recently I was asked why I was asking so much for a legitimate body I had for sale on Ebay, "because, you know, I can pick that up elsewhere for a fraction of that price". Recast is Killing this hobby and that is definitely the thing that annoys me most!

    7. ^Couldn't agree more! I saw recasters offer Lillicat and TriffonyArtwork dolls on there just yesterday, it makes me sick.

Another one of mine from our own marketplace: posting only a headshot of the doll that's for sale. It seems it's becoming a trend. I don't know every doll there is by heart, I want to see if I like the body, if it's single or double jointed and if it's in good shape, and I don't want to harrass the seller for more pictures, get their hopes up and then decide against buying the doll because I don't like the body.

    8. I have a complaint about sales postings where the pics have disappeared. A few weeks ago I saw a sale listing that was only a day or so old, and the photos had already been unlinked. I PM'ed the seller and she pointed me to the pics on flickr, so the photos did still exist. It's understandable that pics get accidentally unlinked, or whatever, but then I checked on the listing again recently and the pics are still missing.
It gives the impression that the person is not serious about selling their doll.
This has happened more than once. If flickr is the problem, there are other hosting sites. I don't use flickr. I use PhotoBucket and have never had an issue.

I've had this happen too with a different doll. I didn't even expect my doll to stand, but she won't even sit. She collapses in a heap. And if I pick her up around the waist, she flops over in my hands and her legs and arms flop all over the place. I have her sitting on my shelf with her feet extending out beyond the edge of the shelf and her feet keep turning backwards. I have restrung her numerous times, changing to a sturdier elastic, and I've sueded her. Nothing works. She's only slightly more stable. Very disappointing. My next step is to wire her.

It's one of the reason I am so pleased with the 4 dolls I've gotten from 5Star. They are fairly inexpensive but are very sturdy and stand/sit like rocks.

    9. This is actually not allowed in the Sales posts in the MP. There should always be an image in the sales post. People have and will continue to report sales threads that don't have an image of the item in question.

I have nothing against Flicker, or anyone who uses flicker to host images, but they have so many problems when they want to share those images elsewhere, the result is that the people who use them don't know how or simply don't want to bother.

This is really prevalent in the Arrival Gallery forum, nothing turns me off a gallery thread then (instead of seeing a photo of your pretty doll) a link to your flicker. It smells like laziness to me.

    10. Not being able to find that RIGHT wig drives me nuts! It took me 5 years to find the wig I adore on my Yder. FIVE, years. And I'm still trying to perfect others.
WE're planning a HArvest moon cosplay for Halloween for the crew of dolls we have here now, and finding a BLUE wig that isn't an icy blue or mixed with some other color is impossible, I swear.

Also wigs that crush eyelashes. Half of my dolls don't even have lashes anymore since they end up getting crushed and replaced.

    11. Here are a few of my gripes, which I'm sure many of you share!

      1. When shoe measurements are not listed in a sales listing. I can understand the oversight in a secondhand sales post, but I find it particularly infuriating when an actual production company website does not list measurements, because that is just lousy marketing! I've had problems with this issue when buying MSD shoes in particular, with shoes ranging in size from tiny to huge. I also find it frustrating when similar-scale shoes from the SAME COMPANY vary in size.

      2. As others have mentioned, dolls that come strung too tightly! Loose stringing doesn't bother me as much, but tight stringing can damage the resin and makes it terrifying to even get a doll unstrung. Lookin' at you, Fairyland.

      3. The dearth of brick-and-mortar doll shops. I'm not asking for BJDs 'R' Us, but I can count the number of physical doll shops in my country on one hand. That makes me sad.

    12. I haven't received my first BJD yet, so I'm almost constantly browsing DoA, Instagram, Flickr, and Tumblr. It makes me really frustrated when I see very unorganized galleries or doll photos without hashtags. If there's a sculpt I like, I want to see every owner picture I can! I can't do it that if your pictures don't come up in my search! Hahaha [emoji28]

    13. People who pick up the hobby for money or expect full prices for a second hand item (that's not limited or anything) that's used/damaged/etc.

    14. People who want to get into the hobby, but they want a bjd with wig, face-up, clothes, shoes, and stand for $50. When you explain that this is just not possible, and why, they just ask someone else. And it goes on and on. It's like they've decided you're just being mean! Hey, I'd like to buy a fully restored vintage Mustang Convertible for $500, but I can accept that it's a fantasy!

    15. Yeah...I used to be really enthusiastic about helping people who want to get their first doll. But I learned that people who won't dish out more than $50 for a fullset is kind of wasting other people's time. C'mon....a barbie with a whole set of stuff costs more than that! So now, anyone who says "I'm looking for my first doll. My absolute budget is $200 but I don't really want to spend more than $50." I don't even bother and just let other people deal with them.
Also...I have come across really rude people who act all high and mighty with their money. "I don't want to spend more than $50 so what are my options?" And then they proceed to insult everyone who introduces sculpts to them by saying stuff like "That's the ugliest doll I've ever seen" or "I'll rather hug a corpse than go anywhere near that!" or "I'll rather wipe my ass with my money than buy that." These conversations usually end up with a mod locking the thread like on here, or deleting the whole thread like on FB.
yeah...and then there are people who who insult a sculpt and all its owners by saying "Oh...I just got a Soom Hyperon. I find him extremely ugly and I wonder if there's anyway I can get rid of him quick!" And people tell the owner that Hyperon is popular so he should sell fast. And then they're like, "What really? I'm surprised this guy is popular!" And that's the extent of any conversation I want to have with this doll owner. Even if I see the ugliest thing I wouldn't say it coz everyone has different tastes. Have some consideration will you?

    16. Connected to the I-don't-want-to-spend-money idea is when the same person then says they can get a re-cast for super cheap so there's no reason the real thing should cost so much since it obviously has the price jacked up just to make a profit. At that point I consider the person a troll and figure they're just trying to get a rise out of people. I also find it extremely irritating when the same person will complain about not having money to get what they want and knocks away all reasonable ideas of how to get/save up for a doll with the attitude that saving and working hard to get what you want is for losers and somebody should just give them what they want because they're entitled to their entitlements.

    17. I confess to saying "I don't want to spend more than $50" once, but I was talking about commissioning a basic small mohair WIG. Not an entire doll. I'd be likely to tell someone that if that was all they had to work with, get a Monster High doll. (Which I also have a bunch of, but that's not for this forum.)

And speaking of wigs - I ordered one on Friday. Out of stock. Okay, second choice - out of stock in the color I ordered, do I want one of their other beautiful colors instead? Um, no, I need this color for this character. How about this one? Nope. Out of stock in that color, how about one of our other lovely shades instead? I said I'd have to look elsewhere, because I needed that color for the character and didn't see another wig that would work - in those words. Now I'm hoping I didn't sound rude, but seriously? All three wigs? First world dolly problems....

    18. ''Out of stock'' is rather a common problem! Especially when you are looking to buy a doll, you find it and want to get all other items for him/her on the same website, but when you start searching, all the best or ''usual'' items, i.e. natural colour eyes, are sold out.

    19. This happened to me, and at first I was kind of OK with it, and agreed to take the doll, but I came to feel really resentful later on, because she is not the doll I ordered.
I ordered a doll that was in stock. I ordered her because I wanted to get her quickly, and I figured that a doll that was already in stock would come sooner. I also wanted her because the one in stock had the color of resin I wanted and the small bust I wanted.
Well, the doll was taking an awfully long time and I was wondering what happened. Finally I got an email stating that they got the order mixed up and the doll was being made with the large bust and a newer style body which was 2CM taller. HuH?
She wasn't supposed to be made, she was already in stock. They wouldn't admit that they sold the in stock doll to someone else, and were sending me a different doll. I said it was ok, because I wanted the doll and had alrady been waiting several months to get her. But after I got her, I felt like I'd been lied to, and had a very difficult time warming up to the doll. I wish they'd been honest from the begining and told me the doll was already sold. They were probably afraid I would cancel my order. So they were dishonest.
It made me feel like I would never trust that company again.
