Things that annoy you... *Rant Thread*

Dec 11, 2014

    1. Haha, seems other have exactly the same gripes as me XD

Photos- I have the same issue with photos. While I do really enjoy looking at the artsy promo photos, I am regularly frustrated that they don't include a couple of clear photos of the face-up and blank at the end. There are so many dolls that are advertised with photos where most of the face is covered in all of the photos or the photos have the doll's face in exactly the same angle in every single photo. Yes I do want to actually see what i'm spending hundreds of dollars on and if you're only showing one angle of the face then that makes me suspect there's a problem with the face sculpt and it doesn't look good in any other angle. I do like that Luts tend to put a clear-unwigged photos of the face-ups at the end, I wish more companies would do that!
I also wish that companies would put up photos of the sculpt/ face-up in some of the different resin colours they offer as the biggest anxiety/difficulty I have is choosing the resin colour when I don't know what it looks like with that sculpt/face-up. I think my biggest let down when receiving the doll is not liking the resin colour or how the doll looks with that colour.

Info - Also have to agree that having the doll Info after the photos instead of before is a pain. I find quite a few Asian sites take a long time to load in and it's even worse when they're picture heavy and you just want to find out what size the doll is as that's my next gripe.

Sizes- Not putting doll sizes in navigation tabs etc. I know a lot of companies like to give their doll sizes their own fancy name but it does my nut in when they don't put an indication of the size next to them (i.e MSD or 42-45cm). I can't remember all the different names and it's a pain to have to look at individual doll pages to find out if their 1/3 or 1/4 etc, especially due to the previous complaint that the info is given after the photos. It take sooo long just to find out what doll size range name is the size i'm after.

Tiny tiny feets- Speaking of sizes, i'm also having a bit of an issue with tiny MSD feet and find shoes to fit them. It's hard enough to find shoes for 5.5cm feet, for feet smaller than that, the few shoes I find that will fit them are always REALLY expensive :( I wish doll companies would be a bit more standardised with their foot size.

Heads- I do wish that more doll companies would offer heads separately. I assume it's not so popular due to them not making as much money on them or something? For someone like me, having very limited space and money mean that buying a full doll every time I want to get a new face sculpt just isn't going to happen. If I have to buy a body to get the head sculpt, then i'm probably only ever going to buy one doll from that company. If I can buy one body and multiple head sculpts then i'm going to do a lot more business with that company. I do like to be able to buy different sculpts from the same company that I can swap round on one of their bodies when I fancy a change. However it does limit me to companies that sell separates which is a bit poo. It would also be nice if more companies sold replacement parts in case of breakages etc.

Random eyes- I'm also amused to see that other have issues with the 'random eyes' things. I usually get sent the cheapest, nastiest plastic eyes that are just no use what so ever. If the company doesn't want the cost of adding in a basic set of eyes then don't, please stop sending those. Also on the few that did send basic glass eyes, they were all too big so whhhhhyyyyyy?

    2. So much that drives me up the wall has been addressed - the photo problems, website weirdness, lack of info on what the dolls have on, unable to buy heads/bodies separately (Iplehouse would have so much more of my money....).
Another thing - LOTTERIES. Ok, for the occasional special one-off doll I'm not going to scream. But when the ONLY way to get the dolls is by lottery (not to mention additional labyrinthine requirements) then that company just lost most of my business. Not just Volks - there are some others as well where I just can never figure out when/what/where.
Also, the companies that sell mainly heads, or only heads, but don't give lists of what bodies fit said heads... or what skin tones match what companies. Or even worse, they give a match that's NOT a match :(

    3. Balloon titties, oh god.... and "O" faces too. Those two combined make for a doll that looks like a blow up toy ahem.. and it makes me feel a bit sick. *cough cough*
      I'm such a prude ahahahah.

Also super perky nips that poke through clothing like bullets. COME ON!

      Ahem.

Not having the option to switch body is annoying too. If Bobobie just had a drop down saying "boy body/girl body" then I could order the Ariel I wanted, but nooo, you have to email and then they never reply. Seriously, why don't they reply to emails? It's like they just don't want money. It's so irritating. Guys, just... give me a drop down menu for a male body, it's a really common request with your sculpts to have them on either body so just make a drop down option and you don't have to communicate with us.
      *headdesk*

Speaking of, gosh i'd love to not have to email about what should be a pretty standard request like female head on male body or centaur body a different colour from humany bits. I mean, these are such common requests, you'd think companies would just add the option so they didn't have to get endless emails asking the same thing.

Also, when they HAVE the resin colours but don't have them added to their drop down menu (i'm looking at you Resinsoul). It's a standard colour and it's on your colour chart, why isn't it in the menu!?

Oh gosh, lotteries just sound like elitist bull to me. That'd be an instant turnoff.

    4. Measurements at the bottom of the page are annoying but at least they're there! I get so frustrated when the measurements aren't on the sales page at all and I have to go dig through the FAQ page or even worse, the DoA Wiki just to get basic measurements! I've even had one doll where I had to ask another owner to measure a neck for me because I couldn't find the size anywhere. I shouldn't have to do that. Basic information about this expensive item I'm buying should be readily available.

    5. The nipplesszz! I HATE them. Sometimes, sure I'll buy a bra for my doll, it's cute! But when you give me freakin booby bullets I HAVE to buy a bra or risk scratches as I try to sand those puppies down!

    6. I'm gonna catch flak for this but I don't care: Loli-Shota/Pedophilia based outfits. Not "Lolita" ruffly dresses- You know what I mean. The Little boy with lollipop making an O Face thing and dressed as a two year old. Call it whatever you want, overtly sexualizing infancy, the appearance of infancy, or underage figures is Not Okay: The Sexy-Baby-Boy/Girl-Super-Moe-Underage thing. Unbelievably creepy. I don't care what kinks you have between consenting adults, but pedophilia is one I WILL be shaming you for thanks.

    7. I have a new one!
When companies keep around pages for old sculpts it's one thing, but PLEASE remove pages left behind for old sales! I'm lookin' at you Soul Doll!
They have sale pages that ended YEARS ago and they're still sitting around cluttering up everything.
      !!!

YES! I don't understand why it's viewed as ok just because it's a doll. Still very inappropriate.

    8. I totally understand this one! I ~adore~ cutesy outfits, but not when it's done.... like that.

Some of the company sales photos I've seen give off this creeper vibe and it makes me uncomfortable viewing the sales pages, even if I like the sculpt, and I admit it taints my perspective on the doll and makes me less likely to seek out owner photos. Leeke Mikhaila sales photos come to mind for this point. >____>

    9. - Company does not sell separate parts (head, body, feet, etc.)

      - Doll body is replaced with a new version that has less joints/poseability

      - Bad promotional pictures: lack of variety in angles, unclear photos, no blank sculpt pictures, bad lighting, unsuited faceup, etc

      - Doll arrives strung too tight

      - Well sculpted, mature bodies.....with the head sculpts of 5 year olds

      - Bad breast sculpts (water balloon shapes and whatnot) & lack of flat chested options

    10. -I wish that companies that sell wigs would just post the company and sculpt of their model. It's very annoying to e-mail the company or spent my time on a wild internet goose chase. Given how many threads are devoted to "What sculpt is this?," I'm pretty certain it's a common frustration.

-Displaying a fantastic face-up and not offering face-up services. I'm probably in the minority on this one, but sometimes I just want that face-up. That one right there. What do you mean, you don't offer face-ups? Does it still count as an infringement on your intellectual property if I ask an artist (providing I can find one who'd attempt it and most wouldn't) to do something close to it? Geh.

    11. I've gotta agree with some of the people that have mentioned lotteries... Like, they don't annoy me, per se, 'cause I've never come across one that I've actually wanted to enter, but doing a raffle just to choose who can buy the doll? Sorry, I don't want to wait and worry if I'm going to get chosen and then have to shell out a (usually) huge amount of money on top of that. Seems like a big ol' hassle. But to each their own; I can see how that sort of thing could be exciting too, and the dolls are often one of a kind. I guess it just depends on what you like!

Also, I kind of get annoyed by "monthly doll" and "order period" systems; not necessarily that they exist, but how they're done. It just seems like the times and dates and what's available and what isn't is just so confusing! And some sculpts sell out basically immediately, so if you're timing is off by even a minute or two you can miss the sculpt. (I'm looking at you Switch. I love you and your dolls are beautiful, but come on.) At least do something like leaving the order period open for a full day and then making the amount of dolls that have been ordered. A lot of companies that do things like this seem to be popular enough that people wouldn't mind waiting a little longer if they have a lot of orders to fill at once. We're already expecting a long wait time, we just want the sculpts! (Shortening wait times and conserving resources are the only reasons I can think of why a system like that would be advantageous, and I personally wouldn't mind waiting longer because of a large number of orders or so the company can replenish their resources.)

Like with the lotteries, I get the appeal of having a super limited special doll, and I get why popular but probably small companies like Switch wouldn't want to have to make tons of a new release, but it's just...not fair. And annoying. (And now I sound like a pouty child.)

    12. Totally agree.

Also the child face sculpt on a big-busted/mature-figured body creeps me out too - there's a lot of it and ... Just no!

    13. It's just not right. I have a Little Monica Elena who is... "well sculpted" in the bosom area, but she looks to young! (At least with her default faceup, thankfully I think I can alter it a bit to make her look at LEAST a legal age or something...)

It's just icky. Or kid sculpts with the "hehe who me?" Seductive finger pointy pose thing.

JUST GIVE ME THE FACEUP. GIMME IT.

Or also allow me to choose one of your faceups from other lines/sculpts without hassle. Little Monica, I'm looking at you. Your Little Harmony line is lacking in the faceup area. Your larger lines have AMAZING detail.

And about the wigs? I still haven't figured out what this one is that I have saved multiple times on my computer and "grail lists"...

    14. I also hate it when they post pictures of the dolls posed with cigarettes as if they're smoking - it puts me off that sculpt entirely (so perhaps I should thank them for cutting-down on temptation...?)

    15. Companies that up their prices every year. 2 or 3 weeks ordering period. Companies that charge a ridiculous fee for different resin colors( I have no problem paying extra for this but, and extra $175 to $200 is just way too excessive).

    16. It's interesting to see someone with this opinion, because i'm the opposite! A doll that "smokes" seems weirdly more human to me. A doll with vices fascinates me!

I can see lotteries for who gets to buy a doll being useful if you have just such a limited supply, but on the other hand if you have that many people who want the sculpt why not just make more? I know rarity and limited numbers can be exciting but I'd be happy to share the same sculpt with many other people if it meant the artist who made them now has more funds than they would have gotten originally. This just translates to more, better sculpts down the line because the artist is getting paid so much more.

    17. Same-face syndrome plaguing the entire portfolio of work.
There are some companies that I honestly cannot differentiate between the majority of the sculpts because the faces are too similar.

    18. I don't know if it's really much of a rant, so much of a "I wish companies would really do this" sort of thing; but it'd be awesome if the companies that sold dolls in many different resin colors had sample photos of what each doll would look like in each color -- rather than just trying to decide if a sculpt would work in the color you wanted based on an arrangement of colored test samples.

Also, difficult to navigate websites. There are a few that I remember visiting out of curiosity that you had to go all the way back to the main page each time you wanted to see a different doll, versus just using a drop down menu like many sites do. Needless to say I found it annoying and haven't been back to those pages even though some of their dolls interested me. I just didn't like the extreme roundabout way their site was set up.

And I'm going to raise my hand as well to disliking the whole Pedobear vibes that go along with seeing the childlike faces on mature bodies. People don't look like that in life (at least most don't), and it is just wrong. An innocent expression can be fine if the sculpt is still a mature one...but if the body has hit puberty, the face should have too.

    19. I didn't realize I had so many of these until I went through the thread, but:

      1. No blank head photos. I will admit, I don't always need blank head shots, but it's a definite bonus.
      2. Not selling enough clothing for your sizes that no one makes clothes for (DC and IPLE I am glaring at you)
      3. Not selling certain colors as anything other than LE fullsets (DOLLMORE. WHY??)
      4. Only showing heads from one or two angles -- no profile shots (Crobidoll my #1 offender of this and it's why I never owned one of their dolls)
      5. Websites. This is a new one for me as I have never really had an issue navigating websites, but I feel like recently a few doll companies have gone weird.
      6. Discontinuing a doll like, the day before I plan on buying it. I get they have the right to stop selling whatever whenever they want...but my timing is suck.
      7. Quality control. I'm not talking about seams or marbling...but breakage. I have gotten entirely too many dolls in the last couple years that have really thin spots, that are in danger of breaking or actually break. I feel like that could be avoided.

Omg I died a little. XD

I just got a doll today, looked at it and went "Brown again. Every. Time."
      XDDD

    20. This is the bane of my existence. And I'm not partial to blue eyes. Out of 40 dolls, I have 6 with blue eyes. Yet I've got easily a dozen pairs of blue default eyes.

Another one here who's annoyed by no blank sculpt shots, highly photoshopped pics and the one that irritates me the most, the same pose taken just a few degrees higher/lower than the previous one that is basically the same thing.... for like the next 4 shots (I'm looking at you, SoulDoll, for that last one).

Inaccurate measurements is also high on my bug me to death list. Sometimes those measurements can be critically important when contemplating a hybrid/mod.
