Things You Hate Buying For Your Dolls

Shoes for my large dolls. Wigs for my 1/6 dolls. Especially wigs, I really can't find the perfect one I want.

 

Shoes and wigs. Only two dolls have shoes, Bronah (BBB Isabella) and Fulu (FL pukipuki), and Bronah's make it impossible for her to stand. Fulu I got lucky with old Kelly doll shoes. As for wigs, the last two I ordered ended up being too small

 

I haaaate ordering wigs because the sizes are always iffy and I never know what is going to look good on a doll before I get it. I also made the mistake of ordering fur wigs and I will never do it again.

 

For me it's definitely shoes - I have to order stuff on-line, and companies don't always tell you whether it's the inside or outside size, or how wide the shoe is, etc.
And yes, I tend to go for bargains for my own shoes and then end up buying more expensive shoes for my dolls than I wear myself. LOL!!

 

I always have troubles with eyes and wigs. For eyes it's not only the problem of color, which is obvious but also an iris size. I prefer when irises are not too large but either not fully realistic and human-like.
As for the wigs, I'm very picky with colors as I always have a certain character and his/her look in my mind. It's usually very hard to find a precise color and style.

And... Shoes actually make another big and interesting quest as both the doll I have and the doll I ordered have their feet out of standard so buying shoes turns into kinda lottery.

 

It’s wigs for me.....you go by the measurements and think it’s going to be w perfect fit - then it arrives and it doesn’t! Even without or without a wig cap!

 

Wigs! You only have to look at some wigs for them to turn into a ball of tangles...

 

glasses, look good on them but always scratch the faceup...

 

As a newbie im find it hard to get nice underwear. A few outfits I bought had them included but cannot seem to get any nice ones not so bothered about bra's as my four little ones are classed as children

 

Eyes, wigs and wig caps. Eyes because I like small iris ones and generally need them to be low dome as well, and though I know where to get them (so that isn't an issue), I do have trouble figuring out the exact measuments I want them in. No matter how many times I measure the eye size of a new head and test out different eyes on it, I always end up ordering at least one more pair of eyes for them later on because the first ones were wrong in some way. Well, thankfully I at least have a rather cheap taste when it comes to eyes, so they still tend to be the most inexpensive can't-do-it-myself part of my dolls.

Wigs (and wig caps) are a bit easier but still hard to shop for because almost all of my sculpts kinda fall between sizes, for example, all my SD Supia girls actually wear 7-8" MSD wigs, but ~20-40% of wigs I've got that are considered MSD sized don't fit them, so it's always a bit of a gamble to get one in that size, yet 8-9"s always end up being so big that I have to do at least some tinkering with them myself, which sometimes ends up simply ruining the wig.

Oh, and one more thing about getting MSD wigs instead of SD is of course that even when they fit, the hair parting tends to stop too soon before the back of the head, and of course the hair length tends to be shorter than the intended look, and even when there's pictures of both sizes it's tricky to predict whether the wig will end up looking too weird or not. I've lately been learning to make wigs myself though so maybe the wig shopping issues will eventually be a thing of the past. (Or maybe they'll just convert into wig material shopping issues, lol )

 

Shoes and wigs! Finding good shoes is so hard and wigs are just so hard to find the exact right one.

 

I don't have a doll yet, but I think, that the biggest problem to me will be with eyes. Definitely too many colors... and options, ha ha.

 

I think eyes are going to be it for me... I just received a set of eyes today that I ordered based off the eye size listed with the maker... and they were too big. 10 minutes and a dremel tool later and they fit. Of course, I'm noticing that one of the pupils is a tiny bit smaller than the other now after transplanting them in... Hopefully this isn't how this normally goes...

 

I will hop on the hate-to-buy-shoes bandwagon. I can make almost everything else, but I completely fail at crafting footwear. And finding a fit is definitely hit or miss. I have too many pairs of shoes that are either too small to go over stockings (Chaeri's going through a lolita phase) or fall off.

 

I've answered this before but I need to add: eyes. I hate trying to buy the perfect eyes for dolls. Company recommends 16mm? None of the sclera even shows, she actually needed 12mm. High dome? Nope, gonna cause huge gaps. Loiw dome? Sure but it doesn't catch the light and looks dull. Perfect color? Sure, but in the doll it'll look dark and dead. Bought 5 different pairs for one doll? Her eye wells are uneven and none look good.

I don't have a box of eyes because I'm a collector, I have a box of failed eyes that I'm afraid to count up how much money I've wasted on them.

 

SHOES. Ugh. They’re so expensive and I feel like the sizes are never right. I’ve only bought 1 pair, so far, and I dread buying the next pair.

 

Wigs! I get a picture in my head of precisely exactly the wig I want....and then I can never find it. I have tried making wigs....it is not my best skill...sigh. Why does no one nowhere make cobalt, blue long ,straight wigs with no bangs?!

 

Everything ! It's like a permanent combat for finding : wig, eyes and clothes. For male BJD mostly. I always have a very precily idea of what I want for my BJDs ... And I never find the thing I'm looking for when I want the thing ...

 

Eyes and wigs are both hard to shop for.

I’ve just made a huge order of wigs in hopes of finding the right ones that look just right. Eyes are problematic too because it’s hard to know what’s gonna go with what until you have it available to try and sometimes it just doesn’t work with your doll....

 

Same problem, I love shoes for dolls, but prices are crazy.
