Things you said you wouldn't do but did anyway.

    1. I think on top of everyone's list is " I said to myself id only get ONE!". I know I did... xD . I was very fortunate to be able to buy just my grail doll. But I have one more OC I've had and now I see myself buying another.... ugh lol... why can't I be showered with money... but good news, I am still in search of a head for her. So I guess that plan will have to be put on hold. Thank god because I have no more money after spending every bit on my Grail...

    2. Ah yes...those were the days... Now my doll family number is 5 and growing...

    3. We-ell, first I said I wouldn't buy anything over 200 euros... oh, and I'd also had this new year resolution that if I'd ever buy my Asa, it would be a basic without extras. I failed that yesterday by ordering her in peach gold and with face up :)

    4. One boy and one girl to be my fashion models. Bought the girl secondhand (DZ Annie), found a boy I liked and decided to save up for him...found another girl with a different body type and thought different type of model, Add to List!...
...Almost two years after adopting Luna, I have NINE dolls on layaway, all in the same storyverse, one boy and eight girls including a CENTAUR (now I know I'm crazy haha) and my original boy is set for next winter. XD I also have so many on wishlist.
Also spent an exorbitant amount on singular boy after thinking I would be moderate. Pfft. THAT went well.
My last bastion is making their clothes...we will see how that holds up when there are nine naked dollies running about. XD

    5. It’s always amusing to hear about everyone’s ‘nevers’. ^_^ I don’t think I have said the term ‘never’ per say for dolls things, but I certainly had certain things I could not see myself doing in this hobby. For example:

      • Collecting mostly boy dolls, I thought I’d have mainly girls (umm...not so much. 95% boys)
      • Ever have a vampire doll with ‘elf’ ears. None of my visions for vampires have the massive ears, but when Iple came out with Addiction Claude I finally caved, ears be darn!
      • Have a doll over 60-65 cm. Yep, those 70s are sneaky!
      • Buy a lottery doll after the lottery period second hand.
      • Find myself owning more than one Volks.
      • Have a ‘head box’ almost constantly for the characters I’ve yet to find bodies for.
      • Fight the frustration of hybridizing so the character feels right. *cough*several*cough*
      • Getting bodies which are difficult to find clothing for, or clothes that fit the character’s esthetic preference.

Yep, good times all around. XD

    6. In the very beginning I said I'd never get a boy doll, but by 2008 I bought a Leeke Mihael (though he's the only boy that has stayed). There was also a time where I said no tinies or really big dolls, but I have mostly tinies now, and a Lusion.

    7. Getting a floating head haha : D Now I'm probably getting another one next month. And also at the beginning I told to my self that I wouldn't ever get a doll with open mouth/fangs, and now I have that too.

    8. I love this thread!! Though I'm kind of face palming and groaning since I see sooooo many of the things I've said to myself already that people have thoroughly broken.

Here's the ones I've already broken before my first doll even arrives..

1- Look but don't buy. You don't really need one to appreciate their beauty. *Broken
2- Alright, if you really MUST have one, buy an MSD. Just one. To see how you like it before buying another one. *SMASHED to SMITHEREENS!
3- Okay, you've bought a second doll before the first even arrived. That's enough, you don't need to look at any more. *Currently counting pennies to see if I can afford one more... in SD size... Just, y'know, because I want to see how I feel about the larger size too. Research purposes only!!

      *snurks*

    9. Getting a floating head. I now have one, and have joined a split for a second and am joining a third!

    10. Oh dear...this thread hits a chord with me so well. Hahaha. Okay, before I even got my first doll, I told myself I would have only one girl doll and one boy doll, and that would be it. I would accessories the heck out of them someday, but seeing how expensive the hobby would be, two dolls should be the max. Well, got my first doll, a Volks SD Kun, and was really happy with her. Slowly started getting her accessories, and was trying to save up for a boy doll.

Then, I was lucky enough to get the floating head of one of my Holy Grail dolls, Volks SD13 Amakusa with a face-up by Saya. I thought that this was it. I just need to save up for his parts and clothing then my dolly family would be complete.

At some point, I watched "Rozen Maiden" for the first time. Was grateful that I wasn't too keen, nor could afford, the Volks Shinku, but I really wanted the Volks Suigintou. Luckily, also too poor at the time to enter the lottery for Suigintou. Promised self that one day, would have my own Shinku (most likely an FCS) and Suigintou when could afford to do so.

Well, fiance got into the hobby and got himself a Volks Jun Tachibana. Now I had two girls of different sizes, but I rationalized that one was my fiance's and one was mine, so I was still at my "one girl only" limit. And now that we had two dolls combined, we could still complete my boy doll, and three would be the maximum (based upon how many could sit on my Volks couch). Plus, the girls were close to the same size, so they could share clothing.

Not too long after my fiance got his doll (literally, months later), Volks had a Dolpha and one of their LEs was a Yo-SD Kun. Omigawd....I desperately wanted a chibi version of my beloved doll! I told myself that if I got that Yo-SD, then that would be it as three dolls is really too much, financially and space wise. Plus, realized completing my boy doll was going to take a lot longer than expected, so I would be at three if I got the chibi, plus a floating head. Got the chibi and I thought I was through with getting dolls.

Now at this point, I really thought that's it. We had three girls, and one floating head, plus their accessories and boxes were starting to take up space. Just had to save up for boy to be complete, and that's it with the hobby. But alas, Volks introduced to me their Charlotte ihcr version and I saw my potential "Shinku". Got her. Now I have four girls, one floating head, and a whole lot of doll accessories.

Fiance became husband at some point. He expressed that he really wanted the Volks Suigintou as well as an Iplehouse Sword Dance Ai. I am now resigning myself to the hard truth that I will most likely have maybe at least one or two additional girls in the distant future with poor boy head still waiting to be completed. >_<' I went from only wanting one boy doll and one girl doll to owning four girl dolls in different sizes with a floating boy head with the expectation of having at least two more girl dolls once they become available on the market. *SIGH* Never thought my doll family would multiply so quickly!

    11. I said I wouldn't sell my SD boy, however he is very much on sale. :C
Sometimes you just come to figure out 65cm is too big. D:

    12. When I started the hobby I knew I wanted more than one doll, so I told myself I wouldn't have more than 10 dolls at a time. I was doing fine for a few years and then some how I ended up with 20...Oops

    13. I had a lot of weird rules.
I thought I would never buy a girl because their eyes were too wide.
      I thought I would only get MSD's.
I thought I would only spend $400 on any doll.
I thought I would never like tinies.
And quite frankly, in regards to all the above, I thought wrong :'D

    14. Hahaha, I'm guilty of doing this... On a lot of counts...

I'll never have more than 3 dolls: I have 30+
I'll never sell my first doll: She went to her new home last year, but got replaced with a larger version of herself x3
I'll never spend more than $800 on a doll/ fullset: *snorts* Yeah, blew that out of the water >.>'''
I'll never buy a second-hand dollfie dream: Yep, did that.
I'll never have another Child-like MSD: Just got me a DDH-01 and am going to buy her an MDD body.
I'll never buy eyes for more than $25: I want my whole crew to sport ED's or Dollflowers now >.<' Oops.

There are heaps more too, but those are the ones that make me laugh the most x3

    15. I never really wanted a white skin doll, since I like the normal pink/tan colours better... But here I am, with my Resinsoul Mei in white skin xD and she was also my first doll! So I kind of failed miserably at not getting a white one xD

I've also been pretty sure I don't want any other size than MSD, since they feel like the right size for me, but now I'm planning on getting Mei a little sister (or two... or three...), like Yo-Sd size ... *sigh* I haven't done it yet, but I'm pretty positive I will as soon as I get the money, haha

    16. Ahaha yeah, guilty too! :XD:
I'll only have tinies... I've got many different sizes now!
I'll never get a SD... Got more than one actually!
I'll never have more than 10... Ahaha yeah right!
I'll never buy a Dollfie Dream... Aw why did I ever say that? They're so cute and light and posable, and down right adorable!
I'll never buy an anthro... Had to get my dolls some cute little animal friends!
I'll never buy a doll in fantasy colours... Fantasy colours rock! Bring on the rainbows!!
I'll never spend more than $600 on a doll... Oops. Failed that one big time.
I'll never send my dolls to an artist to get painted, I must learn to do it myself... Nope.
And I'll make them all the things too! I'll only buy things I can't make like eyes and shoes... Ahahahaha. Nope.

    17. I told myself that I would never spend more on a single doll outfit then I would on my own clothes. I've broken my word twice now ><

    18. I haven't done it but I'm soon going to: selling a doll.
I'm going to reshell a doll, meaning that I'll no longer use the present one. Never thought I would even consider it and I think I will most certainly not sell any other doll, but this one goes for sure.

    19. 1. I would only get one boy. I'm already planning on buying him a brother.

      2. I would only buy one set of clothes and sew the rest for my boy. I've already bought a few outfits and I plan to buy more.

      3. I'll just commission people to do faceups for me. I already have the chalk pastels, acrylic paints, and water color pencils and I'm ready to buy a head for practice.

      4. I'll only buy SD. I have an urge to buy a tiny.

      5. Buy a doll more than $400. My first doll was definitely more than that.

I've already broken a few of my rules.:sweat

    20. At first, I thought I'd never sell any dolls, but I blew that one about three years into the hobby. I did manage to stick to the "no girls" rule for seven years though, but then last year I totally caved and not only bought a girl, but bought three, and didn't get any new boys at all! Girl clothes are just too hard to resist, and I have plans for one more girl at the very least, now. :sweat
