Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. This going too far? [ Dollfie robot? ]

Dec 7, 2009

    1. Wow. That's interesting. I don't find it creepy at all (glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought "persocom/chobit")

It seems pretty cool, but her legs are all bulky and square-ish. Plus, it must be complicated to restring her, considering that there may also be wires inside.

I'm still perfectly happy with stationary BJDs.

    2. I love it. I find it absolutely fascinating. I remember when I first found that video, actually, and being completely intrigued by it! The technology exists where robots can be programmed to be responsive to sound and voices (there are many examples - a very simple type is where the object simply turns towards the origin of the sound; I believe you can find such small responsive trinkets on thinkgeek.com) - wouldn't it be fascinating if your BJD could do that as well? Turn its head to look at you when you address it? And wouldn't the opportunities to scare non-collectors be endless? That would truly enhance the "creepiness" factor, but maybe that's why I find the idea so appealing! It could either be ridiculously frightening, or wonderfully charming.

I would love to see more robotic BJDs; I'm already in love with stop-motion videos of BJDs; actual movement in real time would be incredible!

    3. I think it's great, personally, If I was going to incorporate any technology into my own dolls though, I would rather have them talk, and give them some kind of learning program or something...like some other toys on the market.

    4. I thought it was really fascinating! Thank you for sharing.

    5. Thats awesome!! Its a cool idea, why is having a human robot bad just cause its a bjd?

    6. I think I would be majorly creeped out if my dolls started moving, even if it was by remote control

    7. I think its cool. I can't imagine how the tiny's would work with it since they are fairly small. On the other hand, as technology progresses it could be possible that our children will be able to get dolls that move as if it was a real human. Although I can't shake the thought of Chucky when I think of a living moving doll.

    8. Holy beans, thats wicked! I'd love to have a doll like that, if only to scare people by having it suddenly move without them knowing how~ [IMG]

    9. Have not seen the video, dial up, but I personally like the idea of a robotic BJD.

Just one step closer to Angels and Chobits in my book. Kekekek.

    10. Eh, i'm kinda iffy about it. I mean,i wouldnt BUY one, but it's pretty neat.

    11. I dunno. The video is cute and all... But I wouldn't want my dolls to be like this, and I'll tell you why.

      1. It reminds me waaaaay too much of those singing/dancing valentines animals you get, smile at for the day, then toss in the closet and never look at again. Even if it has more than one function, it won't be like the advanced robotics we see in the movies. Technology is heading that way, but it's not close enough to be like the stuff we see in Chobits.

      2. It takes away the imagination aspect. Half of what I love about these dolls is that all of what they do is from your imagination. I'm not saying there isn't a possibility of an on/off switch, but it still makes me feel like some of the magic would disappear.

      3. You think they're expensive now. Huh. Just imagine how much you'd have to pay for one that dances. And how much extra you'd have to pay for any other functions.

I'm not saying "If those things ever start selling, I'm leaving this hobby." I'm just saying I don't think it's that great of an idea. I love technology and I love BJDs... I just don't wanna mix 'em.

    12. Movement function is pretty pointless without a decent level of AI imo. It'll be like playing with remote control toys all over again.

Still pretty cool though. I wouldn't get it as it is now, but give technology ten more years.

    13. I don't know about anyone else, but I thought that making a robot out of it was rather imaginative. Not only that, but the person who made it is clearly into tech stuff, and just showed us one more way of incorporating another hobby into the BJD hobby.

    14. The idea of a mechanical BJD to me is very fascinating. It seems it brings the character to life a lot more. However, if there's a way to make the doll mechanical without it interfering with it's joints and moving ability that would be even better. :)

    15. lol I dont see why it freaked you out XD. I think its awesome.

    16. That is completely fantastic, I'm SO looking into how to do that. If it works I'll post a how-to somewhere.

    17. I think thats sooooo cool XD.

    18. I'm going with what most of everyone is saying... "THAT IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!!" to think that your doll could move or be more life like is amazing and yes it should be considered still a BJD just more technically advanced :) She was so cute I wish we had them too! :aheartbea
On the other note I think you my of had a problem with this because you may have some hidden fear of "Alive" dolls (the movie "It") and this may be too much of a reality and that may be what's bothering you ;)

    19. My friends actually sent that link to me the other day via facebook and I *literally* squee-d outloud. She's super-adorable!

...and it's one step closer to a Persocom (I spelled that right, right?). *huge fan of Chobits*

I would like to see a version that was a little more aestheticly pleasing (i.e. a little less jerky, non-square legs, etc) however, this is a great little doll/robot thing and I am in love!

...wish I could do that to my dolls. :)

      La

    20. I don't think it's going to far but definitely not my thing for a doll. It looks like one of those cheap novelty things you get for holidays, where you push a button and it sings and dances.
