Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. This going too far? [ Dollfie robot? ]

Dec 7, 2009

    1. I am very glad to see this development, I am Collect as of BJD, and I would love to have contact with the person who made this wonderful doll.
      anyone know the owner?

    2. this guy has a site where he posts videos of her.
      http://dancingdoll-rz.com/
i think his email is somewhere on the site.

i personally think it's awesome and very cute, though scary. but dolls are already in the uncanny valley for me, so i guess i'm kinda used to it? :sweat
i don't like how her limbs look like though, but if someone made a robo-doll that looks 100% like normal BJD, i'd love it!

that's how she looks without clothes on:
[IMG] only the head and i think torso is from Volks, the rest is custom.
i with he kinda put this stuff inside normal BJD body, but guess it's kinda hard/impossible.:sweat maybe in the future when parts get smaller and stuff.

    3. I think it's totally awesome and not creepy at all xD
I was thinking the other day about the future of things.. what would you think if they one day achieved a material that felt and acted like human skin, and made little dolls of it?
      Trippy eh.

Looking forward to my own robot!

    4. Awesome! And I love her @home uniform! Is that something you can purchase somewhere or did the owner make it?

Maybe once I have multiple dolls I'll see if my engineering friend would help me rig up something similar for one of them.

    5. Seems cute to me. ^.^ It would be nice if they could smooth out the walking a little bit. Wouldn't it be cool if your doll could walk behind you everywhere you went?

    6. I feel like such a nerd... .__.; for some reason when I read dollfie robot I was like "OMG! There's a dolfie in a gundam suit?! :D"

Ahm. >>; ..so anyway, I think that it's interesting, and I don't think it's wrong, but I do think I'd be afraid of breaking it. Also I'm still a little afrade of dolls, so if it somehow started randomly doing its dancing thing in the middle of the night... I'd totally freak out and she'd be in the back of the closet for a while.

edit: and omg my doll following me. I think I'd have a heart attack! xDD It would be cool to see one following someone else though. x3

    7. Haha, I think it is so funny! I would like to have one! Then you can let the doll pose on their own when taking pictures, hahaha!

    8. I don't think it's going too far. Personally I am amused by this doll, though it's peg, block legs do bother me a bit XD haha. But Japanese do like innovation and I guess dolls aren't an exception. I have even see a Japanese blog showing a Volks Dollfie Dreams with electronic eyes. The eye type and color can be changed to your desire through some switches and a memory card, if I remember correctly :)

    9. I think that's soooo cool that the doll can move!!!
The range of motion is limited but what if you could program
your own movements!! Too cool, thanks for posting.

    10. Okay, now that you mention it, that would freak the $#%!! out of me
if the doll moved in the middle of the night. I agree, if the doll followed
someone else in the house that would be awesome. My cat would probably
not agree and hurt the doll. Funny thoughts though!

    11. I think it's cool, and I don't see any problem with that though I must say I don't want my dolls to be robotic :)

    12. This really is awesome, I would love to have a walking, dancing, moving dollfie to play with. This would be so much closer to having robots in everyday life.

    13. If the dolls were like in Chobits or Absolute Boyfriend that would be sort of cool. :D

But at their current size, I think I might be a little too afraid of them. *_*

    14. That was awesome, and I was actually thinking about something like this a few days ago. If I had the know how to do something like that I would.

    15. Awesome! She's really cute... I confess, I avoided watching the first video for ages because I thought it might be too unsettling... but actually, I think she is quite neat. In person, the effect would probably be more creepy to me, but on camera, it kind of looks like stop-frame animation. The only vaguely unsettling thing for me is that she shivers a bit now and then.
With that said, I prefer my own dolls to be dolls, not robots, however adorable.

    16. Actually, I thought that was the coolest thing I've ever seen when I first saw that video uh...forget how long ago.

I just think about how much work and skill that requires, and that the person who did that really has some talent. I'd love to be able to do something like that! ((Well....I'd get another doll to do that to first; I wouldn't want to do that to my dolls since I like them they way they are. ^^; ))

    17. I saw this video before and I thought it was amazing! :D It oddly made me think of Chobits/Persocoms. XD She was adorable! I'd actually love to own one. I don't know if I would still consider it a BJD since it is a robotic body, but it would still be cool to own one. :)

    18. I don't think that this practice is 'going too far' exactly, it's clearly the manifestation of someone who really likes BJD aesthetics but is very into robotics. That's the thing, it's a programmed robot, not a BJD anymore. Maybe that's where my conflicting feelings arise from.

As a previous poster mentioned I too found the jerky shivery movements quite disturbing to look at. I believe even though I don't have my own doll, that there is something 'other' about BJDs, they can develop characters and attitudes that their owners at first place on them but then almost seem to be absorbed into their little bodies. A lot of love goes into caring for them, to the point they are considered to be family members or pets to some owners!

What I'm trying to say is that as soon as I saw the original vid I was just kind of reminded of an old horror film idea where a person is turned into a puppet against their will, the robot doll just really freaked me out! Especially with the controller right there- it's not like it was a free roaming robot... there is just something quite disturbing at making something aesthetically realistic do your bidding like that, even if it was a cute little dance.

Buuuuuuuut maybe that's just me XDD

    19. I wouldn't consider it a BJD, but I think itd be fun to own!

I agree with the reference to Chobits....a little persocom like.
