It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. This going too far? [ Dollfie robot? ]

Dec 7, 2009

    1. I love it! I think it's a heck of a lot cooler than those robotic Santas that are everywhere this time of year.

    2. That was cool! I wish she moved a lot smoother. :D Although, the only "Dollfie" parts on her were the head and hands. I'm thinking she is all robot-y under the maid dress and leg warmers. Actually, I wouldn't classify her as a doll-robot hybrid at all, just as a robot.

    3. Oh that's brilliant!! I wish they'd shown us how she'd been modified. The knees look like that robot they had a while ago, only he was about half human size. I love what they did, not freaky at all!!

    4. I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but here's a shot of her "exposed".

Other than the Dollfie head, partial bust, and hands, she's all robotics.

    5. This.. I can't even put my thoughts into words.

The programming and robotics and electrical and holy ****!
As an engineering student, I am drooling over this.

    6. I definitely dont see anything wrong with this. It is really cool and creative! I am sure the creator put A LOT of effort into making her move the way she does, and arent these dolls meant to be customized anyway? I see this as just one more way in which BJDs can be made all your own. I have heard so many people say they wished their dolls could come to life, this guy just got one step closer!

    7. I wonder if she's still able to do the Femisapien kiss and her coo-language?

    8. It would be pretty drool-worthy, technology and skill-wise, if it weren't for the fact that it's just an already-made toy robot with the plastic casing stripped off, and doll parts and clothing stuck on it. Really, I'm not that impressed. Cool, but not something that took a lot of engineering skill to make. Now, if they'd started with the doll and built the robotics themself, then I'd be impressed.

    9. I want one of these. ROFL! I would really have fun developing her persona as a rock star.

That was fun to watch and made the doll seem that much more cool!

    10. Has anyone seen the anime Angelic Layer? Where the kids have battling BJD's? It kind of reminds me of that in a way. xD

I have to say it's neat. If BJD's moved, it would make collecting them more fun right? I thought it was really neat myself! Whoever thought of it was very creative. I showed it to my BF who's not to crazy about dolls to begin with, and he was like "Woah that's pretty cool. I want one if it does that." I was pretty surprised. And that was comming from a guy.

I think the debate here is weather current BJD collectors would like them or not. Personally. I would.

    11. I don't care much one way or another, and dolls whether they're moving or not don't scare me or creep me. My only concern would be that I used to have animated toy dolls as a child (Mattel put a lot of them out in the 60s and 70s) and they fell down a lot. They were vinyl so it didn't hurt them, but I wouldn't want an expensive resin BJD to fall down, it might break.

I wouldn't want a moving BJD of my own though. Reminds me of those animated Christmas displays in store windows at holiday time...just kinda boring.

    12. As a former engineer I'd be even more impressed if they built the whole thing themselves from complete scratch. Actually, there are robots that do way cooler and more complicated things than just jerk a toy doll around.

    13. I kind of agree with Bunnydots, because it seems that either they don't understand how to program the Femisapien very well, or in customizing her, they lost a HUGE amount of her programming/ability to reprogram, which is the coolest part about her.

    14. Tough crowd. :| Fanboy made a dollfie-robofie hybrid to entertain friends at a con... not a grudge match between the CMU and MIT robotics teams.

    15. *guffaw!*

And just for making me laugh quite literally out loud, you get CANDEE! :candycane

    16. I concur with you JN! The guy comes up with a unique twist to an existing product, and people bang on him for not building it from scratch, or that it can't perform complicated tasks.

    17. If they made an actuall BJD that could move that would be interesting to see, but no, *I* don't think it's a BJD. It's quite obviously a robot with BJD parts.

    18. i think it awesome actually. i LOVE robots so if i could have a doll that could, i dunno, walk, wave her/his hand and some other movements like that it would be wicked!!! <3

      BJR ;D (ball jointed robot)

    19. ...erm, where exactly does it say that she's a Femisapien (or am I missing a really obvious indicator somewhere)? Wasn't that just a vague possibility, and/or a suggestion for a base to use in case someone wanted to try and make their own easily?

Pictures like the one posted on this thread and the others on the owner's website make me think the guy built that robotic body himself, as does the description on Danny Choo's website: "...made up from 25 servo motors and a Viston processing unit."

edit: Google tells me Femisapien was released in 2008, whereas Dancing Doll-san's blog goes to 2007. Not only that, early posts feature photos of what seems to be putting her together (I can't read Japanese, so not sure if that's what I'm seeing)--it seems he really made her himself! :o Impressive.

    20. It is a modified dollfie. The doll in question may or may not be considered "off topic"

Personally, i think any advancement in this is wonderful. Ideas know no boundaries- if one were to slam them down, that's rather counterproductive, no?

I found this to be really cool... this is a step further towards something similar to "Chobits" IMHO.
