1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. The stereotypical Dollfie Dream face also does not describe the breadth and variety of art styles you can find within the anime and manga realm. I don't see how anyone can look at say, Minekura Kazuya or Araki Hirohiko's art and insist anime is nothing but huge eyes, no noses, and tiny mouths. And both of those authors are neither obscure nor unsuccessful. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has been running for over 20 years and was in Shounen Jump before it got too awesome for it. Hell, look at any Gundam series. Huge variation in how characters look.

So I always have to question when people say these dolls don't look like anime characters when almost ALL of them do, and then say anime or manga characters all have stereotypical shoujo or moe designs, when no, they don't.

    2. I found the hobby in my weeaboo days from searching around and going to cons, now that I'm out of that phase (though I enjoy some animes still) and have my own dolls to gush over it does erk me alittle.
I do agree that there is a connection to the "Otaku" culture, just as much as there is with lolita or cosplay (other than anime characters) But it is a seperate hobby in it's self I do get somewhat annoyed when the only reason someone knows about them is because of anime but they're none the wiser and neither was I.

    3. They can call them whatever they want. It would however, bother me if they just lumped me in with Otaku. I like anime as much as the next person does but I am in no means a Weaboo. Actually those people kind of scare me. Then again I've never really been fond of anyone who takes anything too extreme :D

    4. It really doesn`t bother me at all! Although for me anime had nothing to do with me discovering BJDs , and Idon`t really watch anime or read manga , really I don`t minde the association ! I do understand when people discover them like that and associate bjds with anime , because allot of owners seem to take their dollys to conventions , and honestly , I do think that many BJDs resamble anime character , but in a more realistic way!
      -sorry if I didn`t make sence , I`m tierd...

    5. I feel that the reason why a lot of people tend to clump BJDs and anime together is that they are both Japanese, and often if you aren't into any Asian cultures and if you really don't know anything about BJDs, your only other point of reference is the strong Jpop/anime craze in the US. Therefore if they are Japanese, they must be related some way to Anime and Manga.
Now while this is not entirely true, it is still not very far off. Often people who enjoy Anime and Manga will adore BJDs and vise versa. At Anime conventions you can usually spot at lest a few people carrying around their dolls, and doll conventions are very similar in some ways to normal Anime conventions. And yes, there are many BJDs out on the market by mainstream companies that are anime/manga themed or designed with those sort of aesthetics in mind. So it is reasonable form one stand point for them to be clumped in with all us otakus and are Asian obsessions.

I only really find this clump thing annoying when someone who knows nothing about anime/manga, BJDs or even Asian cultures in general tries to tell me about them as if I was six years old. This bugs me to no end, but I usually end up playing dumb because I know that even if I try to explain anything to them they will not understand and/or continue to question me and waste my time.

      (I'm so caring)

    6. It really does not bother me at all. I lean towards the anime look when it comes to eyes. I think I only own one pair of regular blue eyes. But I dress her elegantly. With elegantly styled wigs. Her face up is natural. In shoes, I own both styles. So i have a mix when it comes to my Karma~

    7. Totally not. I really love Manga and Anime and when I saw these doll i had to think about it myself.
and that is why I love them so much..
I also want to buy a dollfie dream and those are totally manga shaped.

    8. It doesn't bother me because that's actually how I was first introduced into dolls (Saber Dollfie Dream in someone's Ultimate Saber Figure Collection). So it fits into that category for me (at least the anime-style ones, like DD's).

    9. Not at all, because the dolls that I like does seem influenced from Anime. :)

    10. I love anime, however I did not connect the two when I first got into the BJD hobby. I personally will not make my dolls based after anime characters however I see no problem with those who do. I really see no issue with others connecting the two together. Other peoples opinions are none of my business :)

    11. Doesn't bother me one bit. Just like some of the answers here, I, too, have discovered BJDs and dolls through the anime fandom. That's really all I can say and being a fan of anime...well...whatever...

    12. It doesn't really bother me since i'm still kind of in the animu phase, i just keep a low profile and don't watch all the 'popular' animes/manga.

    13. i love anime so it certainly won't bother me.

    14. No not at all, I must admit I love the idea of throwing my dolls in cosplay! The first time I saw a doll was at an Anime convention.

    15. Nope, doesn't bother me. I find it helps people relate to them more. So when they say, "Aw, she looks like a little anime character!" They're meaning it in a positive, oh hey, I get this!- way.

    16. I got told my two boys (ones gone) Looked like the girls from strawberry panic, as I didnt discover the hobby through japanese culture though, But i can say it doesnt bug me at all then again I dont do fandom.. but overall doesnt bug me in the slightest but I'm the type who understands when people misunderstand I dont mind explaining :'3

    17. To be honest, I don't actually know if it would bother me.

I found BJD through searching Porcelain dolls. I had one when I was a kid, never knew what happened to it, and for some reason, LUTS came up as the first search option.

I might correct them, but I don't think I'll care too much.

    18. I don't think the situation would really come up, after all I'm pretty close-chested about my doll habit in general, my mum for one would hit the roof if she knew some of the money I'd spent out over the years!

I guess I'd be an otaku as in anorak regarding crafts anyway, I might be a bit of a butterfly drifting between hobbies but Knitting has been a lifeline to me for years and nowadays a massive stress reliever.

I guess working with dolls and now ABJD's gives me the chance to use plenty of different crafts and work in areas that I wouldn't ordinarily touch like knitting on teeny tiny needles.

And I do like anime, I have some particular favourites but I have to be in the mood for it and I'm certainly not the type to go to cosplay events or dress up or anything like that! I think that's fine if you're into that kind of thing but I feel like I've aged well past that stage ;-)

    19. I have never heard that before. Whenever I talk about them absolutely NOBODY knows what I'm talking about and I have to thoroughly explain. But that is a dumb kind of association. They aren't anime dolls. They're Asian. There is a difference there.

    20. It doesn't bother me. I can see where they come from and it's not a big deal.
