1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. i probably wouldn't know about ABJDs if i wasn't interested in anime and asian pop culture. i was watching/reading anime and manga and collecting anime figures and merchandise before dolls, and i own more Dollfie Dreams than ABJDs. so... hopefully anyone could guess my feelings on this subject. it's a non-issue because it's true (for me)... although i can understand not wanting to be associated with certain anime fans (joke! it's a joke, i swear)

    2. Though I can see why people would call them anime dolls, it does annoy me a little, I have disliked most of the anime/manga I have been introduced to and most of the manga/anime art styles does nothing for me, many of them are even downright ugly in my opinion.

So yes, I dislike being lumped together with a subculture that I do not want to associate with, but I don't get too fuzzed if people refer to them as such, after all at least I know that they are somewhat familiar with the things

    3. NOT AT ALL!
Actually i think i do that time to time myself. So,i hope no one gets upset!!!:?

    4. No problem for me! I love anime and manga and delight in them. Its because of that and other aspects of Japanese pop culture that I became interested in BJDs.

    5. The only BJDs I see as 'anime' dolls are the Volks Dollfie Dream sculpts. They are very stylized in a way that reminds me of the female characters in anime/manga. But...I wouldn't be upset if someone made a connection of anime to my doll since they have a certain type of look to them that reminds some people of Asian culture.

    6. I'm also one of those people that was introduced to the BJD world through my interest in Japanese pop culture. My first(and currently only) doll is a Dollfie Dream, so it's pretty much a given when people call her an "anime doll"!

    7. It only bothers me when there is a negative connotation attached. Yes, I like anime. Yes, I cosplay. Yes, I like BJDs. And it must be admitted that the majority of people who like one of these tend to like all of them (in my experience). So it's natural that people make that connection and I don't really mind.

    8. unnhh No it doesn't bother me so much...? As many said; I don't care what people say of my dolls. BESIDES I like anime.... Tho i'm veeery picky with it. But yes. I get annoyed by many facts how people automatically thinks a doll owner is some kind of weirdo... But Uhh huh... Only a little.

    9. I may have mentioned this earlier, but I’ve noticed that those who think Dolphie Dreams are the only really anime-looking BJDs, & who don’t like the dolls being called anime-looking, tend to be those who have only a very limited idea of anime/manga art & its incredible diversity. ALL the dolls can look like some anime characters, because anime covers a LARGE spectrum.

    10. i guess when they conect them to anime they might be thinking volks dolls with dollfie dreams and then just asuming dollfie in the term being that even thought we all know that all bjds are diffrent but to me i think all to there own if they wanna cosplay there bjd really

    11. I'd kind of find it annoying, not that I don't enjoy anime itself, but that people often stereotype 'anime' with weaboos and otakus, giving those who like anime a bad light...and then antagonize them even more because they have dolls that look similar to anime characters as well.

    12. I've seen this thread several times, but never commented on it. IMHO, the dollfies and anime/manga are linked.
Before the advent of the dollfie, Volks made Garage Kits and figures.....many were inspired from or by the Anime/manga of the day. Look at the dolls that Customhouse made back in the day. HeavyBomb loved the Korean Manga Priest, so she created, "Priest." My Victory Sony is another character from a manga that HeavyBomb liked. Heaven only know how many others were inspired by Anime/manga/video games...I know that prayer tan Cyn with the snake skelly tat was inspired by Korean manga/video game artist Kim, Hyung-Tae.
I love Manga/Anime/Video Games!! How can any one not love the artwork? I grant you there are some that are not as pleasing to me as others. Who could not love Princess Mononoke by Hayao Miyazaki? Or what about Last Exile by Koichi Chigira? (The music is amazing in most anime or video games.)

    13. I don't care at all :) I honestly guilty myselve :blush I just love giant eyes :aheartbea And I'm crazy on the schooloutfits and lolita for dolls. But I'm not really in to dollfie dreams as I like "naturaly" big eyes. More like a gyaru as I'm one myselve :)I also like a bigger head :)

    14. It kinda bugs me yes. I love anime/manga but I don't see how BJD's relate exactly except that they can come from the same country.
Especially my BJD's in particular. I love to have my OC's in doll form. If someone figured they were just anime dolls I'd be annoyed :< They aren't anime, they're mine.

    15. I really don't care. I love anime, I love dolls - and beside that, how could someone know what the "thing" is called? My dolls have "Anime style", so no problem - I can always explain what the "thing" really is. :)

    16. This can't be stressed enough. 90-95% of these dolls and not just DD's look like they'd fit right into most anime/manga, because the genre is rather diverse in it's art style. I can totally see Iplehouse's Denzel pulling off Nathan Seymour/Fire Emblem from Tiger & Bunny with relative ease... >_> God I need to stop giving myself ideas.

    17. I a very big fan of anime and actually found out a lot about BJD's from going to anime conventions but i do wish people would see that these dolls are so much more then some anime thing.

    18. I don't mind as I a big fan of Manga and Anime, sometimes I look at my dolls and thing they look like character's out of one of my books

    19. It doesn't bother me.
I only got to notice the conection people make early this year, if you can believe.
They have that misterious-sweet-aloof look. People make the jump.

    20. I am one of those people who associate bjd to anime~ ahahaha
But seriously, just look at them and their facial proportions. After that, look at their head to body proportion. The bjds I know that don't look like anime look like cartoons(and don't really get classified as on-topic in DOA.)
