Thoughts on a guy doll having breasts?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. My thoughts?

Not my cup of tea for my own guys but a big thumbs up to those who have such a dolly!

I despise gender stereotypes and the expectations of how each gender should look and act. So I really encourage and admire anyone who sticks the middle finger to'em :D

    2. Does it bother you that Barbie has no nipples? It's an aesthetic thing, and if you're not looking at those bits, then you wouldn't care. Kind of like how you don't care that mannequins in stores have pins in their clothes. The clothes still look nice, right?

    3. Haha. I love the way you phrased it. Pretty much my thoughts.

    4. Oh man.... now all I can think of is Teh Phelps standing around some WalMart in Sioux Falls, holding a big sign saying GOD HATES BARBIE. :XD:

Well, she ain't exactly crafted in anybody's real image, that's for sure. I'm sure Leviticus would have a few issues with ol' Barb's abomination of nipplelessness. *snorts out coffee* I hope you appreciate that I sacrificed both coffee & keyboard for this posting.

No, the fact that dolls are not built exactly like people is overarching enough that it should be obvious that you can do whatever you want to them.

    5. In my senior seminar (in anthropology) this year a girl did an amazing research paper on gender identity, especially with her involvement in the drag king/queen group. She recommend reading Foucoult to get a good grasp on the study of gender. Gender studies are fascinating. On the other hand, glad someone put a stop to the bible-thumping [hopefully this sentiment doesn't get this post deleted]. Everyone's entitled to their own views, and while I personally do not necessarily understand the motives behind or want a male doll with breasts I'm not going to judge nor condemn someone using any sort of religious dialogue or really anything else for that matter.

Also, could someone link that absolutely stunning hermaphrodite doll that was posted awhile ago? I don't remember the name of him/her but he/she had a gorgeous set of mods done, complete with a treasure trail. Beautiful stuff.

And yes. Barbie without nipples bugs me. I used to draw them on her as a girl. Oh, and did anyone else ever cut the hair on a Barbie so another one could have a boyfriend?

    6. She's an [thread=109338]Elf El[/thread].

    7. Yeah that's definitely it, truly an amazing set of mods. She's not normally my thing but I really love this doll. :)

    8. I personally don't like it, but anyone can do whatever they like with their own dolls.
I think the height thing is a tacky excuse. As many people said you can sand down the chest and epoxy between the legs. Also some dolls have separate chest pieces (like the fairyland scarred chest piece), if a fit can be made then the chest pieces could be swapped (though sanding sounds like it would be less hassle).

If it's part of a character, that's fine. As with everything, characters are allowed to be anything but they should be respectful.
I personally would feel weird about owning a doll like that, dunno, guess it's my problem, but if anyone else wants to have their like that (I'll be honest and say I'd feel a little sorry for the boy-but certainly in no way intervene) is fine.

    9. Been semi-avoiding this thread, thought some recent events have made me want to post <3
(I love that hermaphrodite elf, btw, SO GORGEOUS :o)

      Anywho.
It's whatever floats anyone's boat <3 I have had a hermaphrodite character in the past, but I'm not a big fan of the bewbies in general, so even the few 100% female characters I do have are a little tiny on the cup scale xD

I despise gender stereotypes with a burning passion, derived from the fact I unfortunately live too close to those asses known as the Phelps family and a bunch of other nonsense involving bible belts and having the idea of crossing gender lines being "bad" plowed into my head.

Also as it turns out a current dollie of mine will be finally undergoing a needed "FtM" modification. Her chest, however, is too thin to modify so it'll be left alone.
      <3

Doing my research fully so the modification goes well, but certain posts on this thread have really encouraged me to go through with it. If I want my boy to be a boy, he can be one. It just adds to the surreality of this sculpt, too, since he'll be stuck with the uber-feminine hips I find too adorable to ever think of modding away for the sake of "masculinity." :)

    10. Good for you, Zest! I do hope you'll post a pic when you've finished? :)

    11. Sorry if this is post is slightly off-topic but I just HAD to come back to say how much I ADORE the hermaphrodite El. She's beautiful oh god. ;A; <3

    12. THIS SO MUCH. No further arguments. XD

    13. Thanks Teruchan. ^_^
Whow, that El is exactly what I was talking about when I said I'm a sucker for great mods like we're discussing. Teh pretty! *-*
Zest, I do hope you show us your boy when your done modding! :D

    14. carmarilla : Before I discovered the magical world of customizable Asian dolls, I would make bishonen by altering barbie bodies: the older ones with the really narrow waists. I don't think I have any to showcase and it was a time-consuming mess to say the least, but DAMN did it work. I remember how excited I was when I discovered Obitsu. No more sawed off fingertips! XD

Anyway, people who identify as male sometimes have breasts. Why should dolls, a reflection of humanity, be any different?

As an interesting aside, I've found people can be more open to talking about sex and gender as it relates to dolls. I socialize time with older women and this seems to be true for them at least. Obviously, it would be best if we could all discuss such things politely and with understanding, but the world being a work in progress... Bottom line, I find it really interesting what I personally can and have learned from people interacting with my dolls, beyond the fact a lot of adults secretly crave dolly snuggles :X.

    15. Oh, hehe, thanks, you guys! >w<
Yes, I'll definitely be posting pics :3 I was thinking of making a sort of progress thread, though it might not be for a week or two- I'm quite nervous and making sure I got all my research done and supplies ready :shudder

      *ahem~* Back more-so on topic, I like what you said, saintsavin. <3 I think it's interesting that doll people tend to be more open to discussing the sex/gender difference, especially since being dolls, the spectrum could be a bit more broad, perhaps? I only say this because as a kid I made most of my Ken dolls girls and vice versa OTL This might've been because Barbies aren't quite as "anatomically" correct, but there I go getting off tangent again... eue;;

    16. I think that people should be able to have their doll however they want. I honestly have no opinion and will not judge them, or their doll. I believe that this is the kind of thing where the owner can make the doll exactly how they want them to be, and I feel as though they have the right to do that without being judged by others.

    17. I think it's conceptually very interesting! There are some dolls produced that are gender neutral (e.g. Volks Tenshi, some tinies, etc), so I don't think it's odd whatsoever for there to be multi-gendered, intersexed, transgendered etc dolls.

    18. can't say it's my cup of tea, (a boy doll with girl body) but hey, as long as it's not in my collection, whatever floats your boat.

    19. My personal feeling about dolls is they are what they look. So a 'boy' doll with obvious breasts would just make me think 'girl'. 'Boy' with a female body but modded breasts would (probably) appear male to me. 'Boy' with a female body with unmodded but well camoflaged breasts would also (probably) appear male to me. I don't really care what's between the legs, unless there are photos flashing it, in which case, I'd go by the obvious visual cues to determine the sex of the doll in question. 'Boy' doll on male body in foofy frilly loli dresses get classed into 'female' for me, by the way, from a purely visual perspective.

Of course, when characters come into play, I'm willing to accept just about anything. 'Boy' has breasts because he was cursed after offending a witch/is a transitioning FtM/has hormonal issues/has a fetish for futanaris/got trapped in the wrong body/came back wrong/comes from a species where males nurse their babies/etc, it's all good.

Generally, I would just find it strange if a doll owner insists that his/her doll is of one gender when it (visually and obviously) appears to be of the other without any accompanying backstory. This applies both to boys with breasts, and the other popular topic 'boys in dresses'. Of course, it's their choice what kind of dolls they like to keep, but if they have to continually correct people about the gender of their dolls, well... personally, I cannot see why they'd persist in finding trouble for themselves. Personally, because I would find it troublesome for me if I had to keep explaining that, in spite of those B-cups and lack of a penis, that doll is a boy because it just is, ok? XD

Of course, unless people come to shove their dolls in my face and explode into a spiel of gender-related exposition (which, I must confess, has never happened before, and will probably never happen at all), I have no real problems with boy dolls with breasts. They're just weirddddddd to look at.

    20. i have a boys head on a girl body, i wanted her as a girl and tho the head sculpt is a "boy" it is a girl to me, as for people who have a boy head on girl body and its still a boy to them, then your running into trans-gend territory and again could be part of that persons story for the doll. another thing is.. it depends on the size of the breasts and if the person did just want the body for the slimmer shape rather than a guy with breasts. i have no problems with any of these.
