1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

To buy or not to buy... that is the question?

Jun 4, 2018

    1. I am the WORST person to ask when it comes to spending on dolls and doll items!

I tried to make rules for years, but keep breaking them.
      1. Only one or two dolls!
      2. Only 60 cm dolls so they can share wigs/clothes/eyes/shoes.
      3. Only one... or two dolls per year.
      4. Only one doll on layaway at a time.
      etc., etc.

I try to make sure I'm not impulse buying. I try to think about each purchase and make sure. But I'm not sure how successful I am.

I am mostly limited just by finances... and that doesn't seem to limit me that much when there is layaway and credit cards!

I do try to prioritize... Dolls that are limited/limited sales come first. Mostly I just buy things when I see them! So not much prioritization...

I don't buy mystery bags. I never have, really. I have TOO MUCH STUFF already. I try to focus on items I really need/want.

I have bought when there's a deal. Like under 100$ for an SD with faceup. I didn't want or need him. *sigh* But he's here and not leaving!

I have no priority list. I don't like trading. I like buying what I want and keeping it. (Yes I'm a total HOARDER! But I do try and not buy random things, just things I want to keep!)

    2. I know what you mean by the “panic” warning, I go by that too!

    3. I’ve felt like I impulse buy a doll especially when it’s price cheap and I end up disliking the sculpt. I’ve always wanted a switch doll and a soom vampire edition doll and when I saw one on the market, grabbed it immediately and I have no regrets as i’ve Yearned for one for a Long time

    4. I'm doing rather well at resisting a doll currently, even after enquiring about a layaway on him. But, then, I am trying to save for a big trip next year. So, the money has to go towards that, more than a doll. Even though, if I didn't spend money on other things, I could afford a layaway on the head. But, I do [usually] have great self-control with dolls. I say usually, because I impulse-purchased a vinyl doll the other month on credit. I occasionally regret the financial side of the purchase, but looking at him makes me happy. So, I don't know.

Saying that, I do have little self-control around doll clothes. I guess, because they're cheaper than the dolls themselves, I deem them 'easier on the purse-strings' than the intended recipient. I've financially shot myself in the foot this month, because I expanded my girl's wardrobe a little too much.

When it comes to a doll purchase, it is more often than not a considered purchase. I see the doll, I ruminate on the character options and price for a few days/weeks, and then I decide if I buy it or not.

    5. Whether a doll is on my wish list or a complete impulse, I only buy when I have the cash on hand. Got caught up in the credit card purchases & am literally paying for it now. Occasionally I use layaway but my regular budget doesn't even make that always possible. So now I only buy when I'm in love & have ready money.
