To those Who Own Only or Prefer One Gender Over the Other

Jun 3, 2008

    1. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Boy dolls. This is mainly because most of the characters I have in mind for the dolls are boys. However, there is one female character I'd like to do in SD form.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
I haven't been in a position to be asked yet.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I'd make the excuse of the main characters in said story being boys. Mind you, that raises the question of "why are the main characters in your stories boys?" Eheh.

      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
      They might, if they knew.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I have gotten rather bored with female characters in recent years (though I'm starting to rediscover them a bit). Right from the start of looking into BJDs I knew I'd want this gender of doll. Actually, it doesn't surprise me that I want bishy boy dolls. It does surprise me how quickly I'm getting interested in having a girl (oh, the clothes! the clothes!).

    2. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
BOYS. It's very rare for me to take interest in female molds. I have a lot of female characters, but I don't really have the desire to give most of them a tangible body. I want to keep them in my head, and in their own world.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
I don't own any dolls yet.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
In the plot of a story quickly forming itself in my head, the main character is a 10-year-old boy. That's what I would say. If they questioned further, I'd say that the women are too busy ruling the world from behind the scenes, and doing everything they can to save the sorry asses of my male leads. :XD:

      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
      I haven't asked, nor would I care.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
As soon as I got into BJDs, I knew. I've done Barbies, and American Girls, as well as collecting porcelain dolls. I still have them all, and they're all female. I think I got sick of dolls = female. If there is a female character I end up liking well enough, she will get a resin form. So far that's...three.

    3. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?

Boys, mainly. It's really hard for me find girls I like. There's only a couple girls I really want, and they're always getting pushed to the bottom of my list for that new, cute boy I just found.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

      Not really

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

I'd probably just say I more picky about girls than boys.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

A little, but mostly those not in the ABJD community.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

When I started searching for my first doll, I could only drool over the boy dolls, though I do still want to get a girl doll...eventually.

    4. Apparently I prefer girl dolls, because I have 2 and am expecting two more from NYC Dollpa. Ironically, the first BJD I ever bought was a boy: Dollmore's Asha. Dollmore sells their dolls on U.S. eBay, so at the time it was the easiest way for me to get one. I sort of ordered a boy by accident, because I didn't look at their other listings. I was already aware of the cross-dressing and androgyny going on in the Hobby, so I just figured I'd just dress him anyway I liked. When he arrived, however, I felt like a bad mommy putting my boy in a dress :atremblin like he'd grow up with a mental complex, or something! Now I appreciate Asha more because He's so much simpler to buy clothes for: One or two snazzy outfits and he's set! Buying dresses for girls is like just eating ONE potato chip :doh
Being a girl and playing with girl dolls is sort of an endless cycle: Girls are encouraged to play with dolls, and the market reflects and perpetuates this by making mostly female dolls. I love buying outfits for my girls even more than buying clothes for myself! When I'm dressing one of my girls in a new frock, and look over at my boy, I don't feel like I'm neglecting him. He's my rock and I love him for it :aheartbea

    5. Currently all of my dolls are girls (I have 2). I don't prefer girls over boys, I just happen to have only girls. My next doll, however, is going to be a boy. :)

    6. it seems most people have more dolls of the opposite sex (or if they are gay the same sex)

do you buy dolls of the opposite sex? same sex? or both? and whats your favorite gender when it comes to dolls? (do you favore boys over girls? or other way around?

also please include your sex as you cant always tell just by your avitar

(example : im a female, and i want both boy dolls and girl dolls, but i think ill eventually end up with more boy dolls then girl dolls)

    7. include your gender... is probably a better way to put that

    8. wow theres not alot of people who favore female dolls is there?

    9. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
It's a little strange... but I prefer boys more - size-wise. I much prefer boys in the 60-80cm range, while I'd rather my girls be no taller than 45cm.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
I don't have any in my possession yet, so no, not yet.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
It just turns out that all the boy characters were designed to be tall, while my female characters are so very small. It just turned out that way by chance.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Nope! :) I'm just a short girl that likes designing tall guys, and short girls. And pairing short girls with tall guys. Personally, I think it's cute.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
When I started browsing DoD, DZ and Luts and realized that none of the female 60cm molds interested me - at all. They all seemed to look the same to me. @_@; Then when I started hunting for dolls that would personify (kind of..) specific characters, and realized that they'd be too tall to use for any of my characters.

    10. Ok, deleted this - already a topic!
      Alex

    11. I'm buying the dolls as eye candy.
I go for the boys. ;)

    12. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I seem to prefer the ladies. It's not that I don't like the boy molds, it's just many more of the girl's seem to draw me to them.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Nope. But then again I am an ultra-newbie to the hobby.:sweat
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I would explain that some unknown force seems to draw me to more ladies than guys.
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
No. At least not that I know of...
      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
While I was getting into this hobby. As I was looking around, I found that I liked many more of the girls. The first doll I plan on owning will be a girl. And probably the second one too.

Hehe, well said. The sheer beauty of many of the dolls is what drew me to them in the first place. That said, I do tend to fancy the ladies. Though I'm not just planning on owning only girls, there are a few boys I want as well.

    13. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
      BOYS! Why ? Simple - They are hot! :D I also like yaoi and most of my orginal characters are guys ^_^;

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      Well not really D:

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

I think "yaoi" would explain all lol :P

      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?

Hmmmmm... For fammily i say i like pretty boys, thats all lolol :D

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Since little kid D: Like there was this X files TV show and sure i liked Mulder more lol! :P
Also theres nothing beter than waking up and seeing hawt bishie sitting on your desk *_*<3

    14. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?

I've noticed that the molds I tend to look at the most are females. o_O

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

Yes, my friend who introduced me to BJDs pics online is especially curious as to WHY I like female molds despite being a female myself. I'd like to know myself. :sweat

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

What can I say? Their faces and body shape are more aesthetically pleasing to me? I mean, I do like the boys and I ogle them more often than not but something puts me off from actually taking the final step to buy the guy. ._.u
I also found that I'm much more critical when it comes to judging guys' mold than the girls'. And I haven't found that perfect match to my ultra, feminine uke-like character which is why I suppose I'm modding my only complete doll as one.

      4) Do others' think it's weird that you have this preference?

Yep, and I don't like the idea of my dolls being thought of as a kind of barbie surrogate so that partially got me to decide to mod my doll as genderless.

      5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?

All my dolls right now and the ones I had were girls. I was boy free. >_>

    15. At first I started off looking at girl dolls, but then I realized just how picky I am when it comes to girls. I don't really like any of the mature looks. Meaning both the face and the bodies. If I even got a girl, it would probably be a MSD since I could make her look younger. I tend to stay away from the girl dolls with big chests xD

But when I look at guys, I don't really have to think about any of those things~ They can be more mature or kiddish. I might just be a fangirl though 8D

    16. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
After having both a girl and a boy (both of which I sold and bought two totally different ones) I prefer girls...I don't really have a reason.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Yes I never have a good answer!
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
But usually say because the BJD I have and want just look cute!
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
      Nope.
      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
When I bought a boy and girl and owned them for a while, I wasn't sure then, but it was good because it helped me find not only what type of gender od doll I like but head molds, company, and style I like.

    17. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Girls. Sewing for girls is much easier for me than sewing for boy dolls and finding right style is much harder. Also I just can't "connect" with boys. Also I think that most boy molds are too feminine or just too scary. :sweat

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
No, they know how I feel.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I don't need any more men in the house (one real man is enough) ;)

      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
      No

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
First BJD for me was a boy and I kept him for two years and I was very unhappy with him and I thought that this hobby just wasn't for me. Then I decided to sell him and I boght girl doll instead and I instantly bonded with her! Now I have two girls home. <3

    18. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Two out of three of my dolls are girls. (Well, I have two tenshis, so really they're genderless, but their characters have genders.) I like dressing them up. When I draw, I usually draw females. I like the curves of women's bodies; to me, they have a more artistic appeal. (By the way, I'm a heterosexual girl.)

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      Nope.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
That I used to think I wanted just one girl doll and then have all boys, but now I only have one boy and two girls.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
It makes sense to me. I'm not really into yaoi (as in, I don't seek it out; if a friend handed me one I'd read it) so I really feel no need to have more than one boy doll to take yaoi photoshoots.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Actually, my friend told me she was surprised that I had bought a boy doll. (This was a year ago when I made a Unoa B-El hybrid boy. I've since sold him.) She said that she believed I'd only have girls. When I thought about it afterwards, it really made sense to me that I'd prefer female dolls.

    19. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?

I prefer boys, because they are easier to find & make things for than girls.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

Nope. But most people think my doll is homosexual, because I dress him female sometimes. No, he's not gay, he doesn't have a preference, because he doesn't want anyone but himself.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

I would just tell them that I don't like the exaggerated breasts and features of female dolls.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

Not really, because I only have one doll.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

Because almost every female doll I saw I hated, except the tinies and pukis, who have less exaggerated female features.

    20. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?

I prefer boys. I have two girls but they are more masculine in nature. The nearest thing to a feminine doll I have is a boy doll. I just like the male sculpts better and I was always a tomboy so I relate with boys better. I've always had tons of male friends but only a few close females. Also when their characters develop they tend to flow from my friends and my own personality traits.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

Not really I think I've only talked about it with two people. One was a discussion between a friend and I about our dolls it really was more a collaborative effort then straight out asking.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

Most likely what I said in question 1.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

No, I buy what I like and me I likes the men!

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

When I started really looking to buy a doll I noticed that I leaned towards the male sculpts and at one point owned 4 male dolls and no females.
