To those Who Own Only or Prefer One Gender Over the Other

1) What gender do you prefer & why? I prefer girls in my collection--love their clothes and in general I'm just drawn to more of their sculpts.
2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? No one has asked me yet!
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? I would probably say that I've found it easier to dress the girls and for less money--and the fact that I can have them share helps out too!
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference? NA
5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other? I actually have always know that I preferred the females---although I have to admit that there have been some really Awesome guy dolls that have tempted me! I just don't have much more display space or funds to dress the guys.

I guess I'm generally drawn to boys more, but I think both have their merit.

Welllll you're supposed to bond with your dolls, right? Well, I grew up with two brothers, and my sister wasn't born until laster, so I was used to hanging with the guys, and to this day I bond with boys more easily than girls. Not that I don't like my female friends, I just don't have as many.
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Not really. It makes perfect sense to me.
5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
When I first started writing out my wishlist and realized, "Oh hey, other than Tender Bee and Freezia, they're all boys!" XD

No one really cares? I want a new boy doll right now, and my mom asked why it matters... Mostly I feel guilty that my only MSD boy has no guy friends (boy-toys?) to hang around with.

Girls are pretty? And look good in dresses

Yes. I always thought I would only buy boys XD I don't know how the change happened.

More interested in boys than girls, the same as my preference in real life... not just as lovers, but also as friends. I'm female, but I find guys much easier to talk to
I think all my close friends throughout my life have been male. It's also because the male BJDs all have this really skinny look which I LOVE in guys.

My mum thinks that I want the guy dolls for some sort of strange sexual reasons... so she keeps asking questions that imply that she thinks this.

All the faces I have fallen in love with and that are on my wishlist are males. I just ordered DOT Ducan, and afterwards I will just HAVE to get DOT Camine for him as a brother

Girls, definitely... I've tried to have a boy but I found it so difficult to dress him (I like tinies so it's hard to find boy clothing!) I have four girls and one boy XD Just sold off the other boy.

Not really, but I notice that at meets most people have bigger boys rather than girls.

Girls all the way! Easier to dress!

I prefer males, and I be honest I'm not to sure why that is. It could be because I enjoy dressing them up in both boys and girls clothes. You could dress a girl doll up in boys clothes but she is certainly going to look more like a girl then boy. Whereas with the boys its just fun making them confused as to which gender they truly are. (ex: Shuichi my KD Woori, just about everyone who has met him thinks he's a girl but when I through him to boy clothes he is a total man. XD!!)

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Yes. My family always asks why I don't have any girl dolls. I usually shrug. Now to satisfy everyone I bought a girl pet BOBO and i'm getting a DOC Bee-A. ^_^

"Don't hate." lol, no I usually say, it's just what I prefer really.

Nope, they don't know because they always percept my doll to a gender depending on what kind of clothes it wears.

I can't say... I did lean towards female dolls at first because I felt awkward about boy dolls, but now that I have 2 girls, 1 boy and 1 neither I think it makes a nice balance. x)

Haha... Not really. I do get a lot of "o_O" when I tell them about the genderless one though.

I have only have one and yet it has been my favorite out of all for a long time despite many that came before and come after it.

I like many equally! But I have more girls (4), than boys (3), and no gender neutral folks. I would've thought I'd have more variety, but I really enjoy dressing up my girls.

**No, but sometimes -I- find it weird! I love the way women look, especially female dolls. Girls just look... nice, you know? *lol* And yet I own way more boys than I do girls. Go figure.

**Basically when I bought my first SD boy. I ordered an MSD girl after him and then kind of realized I enjoyed planning boys more than girls.

I would never have a boy doll. First, I don't need more than one boy in my life. Second, a doll has to be beautiful to me. And I find girls beautiful. And if a find a boy doll beautiful (I mean, in my own taste), it's because of his feminine looks, and if I will ever decide to buy him, he will have a female body. Because I find female bodies more beautiful. Oh, and the third - for me doll is a little helpless creature I have to take care about. I can't imagine a boy as that creature.

No. I have only one doll, so it would be weird to ask me about my preference... Even if I already have it.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
"I like girls".

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
For, er, "normal" people - not at all. But for doll people I think it's a bit weird, since it looks like the majority of doll owners prefer boys.

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I've never had doubts about that. But when I started to look at different bjds and read bjd forums and so how many boys are there I just told myself "nah, it's just not for me".

I like boys best. =] I think there are a lot of factors that contribute to this:
-In real life, I get alone better with guys than girls. Most of my friends are boys.
-I like to dress people up. ._. Im not really into fashion and shopping for myself, but for example, I just LOVE buying clothes for my sister and dressing her up in cute outfits. It's just fun. But I never really had an opportunity to dress up a boy in cute outfits until I discovered BJDs. 'Cause most guys aren't as compliant in the respect. XD

Not really. I had someone ask "Do you only have boy dolls?" once, but I just told her "Yeah, but I only have two dolls. I'll probably have a few girls eventually."
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I'd explain what I wrote under question #1. I relate to boys better, and love the idea of getting to plan out clothes for guys and dress them up, which I would not really have an opportunity to do if not for my dolls.

Maybe, but no one's ever told me as much.

Oh, I knew right away. I knew when I first started planning to buy my first BJD that my first doll would have to be a boy... and my wishlist has always, at any given time, been mostly boys.

 

One. What gender do you prefer & why?
Boys, definitely. Well, I own/am waiting for four dolls, all of which are boys. And then of the squillion (26; holy hell) dolls on my wishlist, three are girls. Yeah.

Well, it's always been the same for me. I believe it started with my art. I've been drawing all my life, and early on, yeah, I drew only girls, but then I started drawing boys more often, and I believe I've been drawing basically only boys for three or four years. It's just what I do. I like sexy boys. It carried over into my doll hobby. I do think women are beautiful, but I find it hard to find a female sculpt that I love, and when I do, I usually think to put it on a boy body. And then, when I do want an actual girl, I think it's really hard to come up with original characters for girls because everything is so overdone (not that that's not the case with boys; I suppose I just find it easier to come up with characters for boys).

Two. Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Nope. I've never had someone ask about my preference, with my art or with my dolls. Really, it doesn't make much sense to me that someone would ask, but then again, I've been asked all manner of stupid questions before, so eh.

Three. What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Probably something completely lame and dorky like, "I like sexy boys. More than one just increases the fun!" Durrhurr Yeah I'm a dork. :B

Four. Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
Not that I know. And I don't find it odd if someone else has an extreme preference for one gender over the other. It's no big deal.

Five. When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
Like I mentioned earlier, it began with my art around three or four years ago. I just started drawing more boys than girls and making more male characters and doting on the male characters I already had and such like that.

I'm the kind of dorkylame person that doesn't like leaning towards one side or the other because I feel like the other side will get sad if I don't pay attention to it. That being said, I've tried desperately to even out the number of girl characters vs. boy characters and make female characters that I really love and such, but no matter how hard I try, I just end up making more boys and loving them more. D: I've pretty much succumbed to it, and I just let the girls happen when they want to happen.

Male. I think the fact that I've been only exposed and aware of female dolls throughout my childhood till a few years ago. (Other than barbie's boyfriend ken) I find more interest it male dolls. Female dolls were too.. overstated. Also that I think the male doll's have more potential of being idiosyncratic? without much effort.

Male's are easier to appear unique and to STAND OUT. I'm not trying to say female dolls suck. I love both, but prefer male. I just find a female doll to be more of a challenge to make her distinctive, since they've been around since forever..I do give a big applause and appreciation to a interesting original female doll than a interesting original male.

When all my wish list dolls were mostly male. how hard it is to fine a female mold I like and How masculine my female dolls would look if I had any. Soon though! It'll be a challenge for me.

Well to be honest I prefer males, normally no thanks to those bishie anime and mangas, and those drop dead gorgeous male characters in games, ect. And do like females, but I just find males more easier to hold, I don't have worries in...umm...stuff, and I find male clothes easier to make. Also, I find my way round male clothes more, being a tomboy myself.

Well my mother, she was even attempting to push me into wanting a female doll for my first.

Well, pretty much what I say in question one, or, I'd tell them I like males, thats that.

I discovered that i liked the males more since I was born. Joking, lol. I guess it kind of unfolded as I first went to Dream Of Doll, all the males seemed to look better than the females, so I dunno how, and I dunno when, it seems that kind of liking has been sticking with me on every other site that I look at. Also, because I turned to my Dollie Wishlist which was pinned on my wall, I saw that almost all of them were males, and only one female was on the list, but she's out of stock and replaced with the new one, but seriously, almost all of them were males, and I have a very big wishlist.

In theory I like both equally, though in practice I'd have to say GIRLS. They are more fun to dress, especially considering that I love cutesy and feminine looks. I do love boys too, though I find it harder to bond with them and am pickier about their sculpts and clothing.

It was a given from the start. I have always loved dolls, which are usually female by default, and so when I got into SD's it never occured to me that I'd have boy dolls. Even when the first boys were released I was not at all interested. But I surprised myself and came to love boy dolls too over time. ^^

I used to have a couple of boys, and after a while I realized I didn't play with the boys or make them clothes like I did with the girls. I eventually sold them, even after I tried making one into a girl by sanding his peen off. After that I only bought girls.
