To those Who Own Only or Prefer One Gender Over the Other

1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I have always preferred female dolls to male dolls for the same reason I enjoy drawing female characters and not males. To me, the female body is far more interesting, intricate and intriguing.
2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Nope! I'm never really questioned about anything I do. ^^;
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
The same thing I said earlier. I'm not embarrassed or anything!
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Umm... no?
5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Back when I was in middle school and I began drawing people... I had SO much fun drawing girls, but drawing boys was such a chore.
I guess it comes from the fact that if I need 'reference', I am known to strip down in front of a mirror for research. : )

Boys, boys, boys! I don't know why, It's really just preference and I've just never found myself attracted to any girl dolls.

Not really no. My Mom questions it sometimes, she seems to bug me often about having only males. Always telling me to buy a girl doll, but that all my boys look like girls. Pft!
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Ah, hm, it's just a preference? Sometimes it's a clothing thing, like for some reason I feel like I'd be wasting money on buying clothes for a girl doll because I'd wear that same outfit myself! And quite possibly it's the same price so I should just buy myself clothes instead. But buying clothes for boys is different because I'm not a boy? haha I don't really know where this reasoning came about but I think it's a small factor as to why I prefer males.
I also just really love dressing boys up! I wish that companies had as huge of a variety of BJD boy clothes as they do for girls, or that I could just pick things from human clothing stores for my dolls.
I don't know how many times I've come across IRL boy clothes and just went "omggg if this was only in doll size! T_T" or "darn if only I was rich and my non-existent boyfriend let me shop for him" haha. Oh well.
BUT I've mainly just never found myself drawn to any female dolls and have no characters in mind that are female.
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
No one really except my Mom haha.
5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
Right when I got into the hobby. I was just always drawn to the male dolls more so then the females.

1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer female dolls, I don't really know why, but it's the same with any of my rp characters or my drawings, I just prefer to look at girls rather then boys. It's strange cos I love shounen ai and Yaoi. I think part of the reason is that I like looking after and pampering girls more. I can make them pretty dresses and dress them in frills.
2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Not really, most of my friends prefer boy dolls, and just kind of except that I prefer girls without really questioning it.
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Just that I like girls better. There would probably be some in depth discussion as to way but the rambling her might take me off topic.
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Yes, I think some of my friends think it's weird that I only want female dollies. It's not that I don't appreciate their boys, I think my friend kara's boys are lovely, I just really want one of my own, although I'm happy when she lets me take pictures of them and play with them. I even get to make some clothes for them soon
5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Just always know really. Goes back to when I used to draw as a kid and play with barbies my sister had an Alladin, and I hated it when she made me play with him, I just wanted to play with my Pocahontas. And I used to spend hours making paper dolls and drawing clothes for them, don't think I ever made a male one... huh.

Boys There were times when I couldn't seem to find girls exciting enough to pay a lot of money for one ^^ I guess most girls' sculpts are too sweet for me to like them.
The only girl we have in our doll family is a hybrid - it's a boy's head on a girl's body looks quite womanly, and it surprised me how much a liked her. I'll get another girl someday I think, to keep her company.

Sometimes. But noone is really surprised - most know I prefer to look at beautiful males ^^

I would just say that mostly I prefer having male dolls and that's all.

I just knew it from the beginning. I was honestly surprised when I finally decided to get a girl doll ) But still, I like female dolls too, they just have to be very special, boyish a bit and with a strong character.

Boys. It just so happens that 8/9 characters in my story are boys so it makes it easier to represent them that way. Not quite sure why I have so many boys lol.

Actually, no. I normally only have one or two dolls on me at any given time so its rather hard for people to bring it up.

Probably just explain that they are my muses for my story so they are all set characters.

1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer female dolls. I think this is due to my own opinions, beliefs and/or philosophies.. I'm a bit of a feminist in a few ways. I feel more comfortable with females and I think the female form is beautiful (though I wish there were more plus-sized body sculpts like Tinybear's cute BonBon and Coco). I can usually relate and bond better with female characters. I generally feel very uneasy and untrusting around males in real life and my doll preferences definitely reflect this. Various life experiences and male roles in my life have shaped my view of males in different ways, some negative, and I probably prefer female dolls because of this as well.

I'm also a huge fan of shoujo-ai and yuri (female/female pairings) and do not care for male/male or "yaoi" at all. I also feel that there are far too many male/male pairings and/or male dolls in the hobby and it's become sort of sterotypical. I like to bring a bit of variety with female/female pairing.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Not really, no.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I would probably ask them what they preferred and why, and then give them my own reasons for my preference in return. Most people who know me in real life expect me to prefer female dolls though.

4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
I'm not really sure, I've never asked anyone or have anyone tell me they think it's weird.

5) When & how did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
I have gone through various male dolls that I ended up not bonding with and selling. Bonding was always much easier with my female dolls. I am not a fan of crossdressing males or feminine-looking males, and it's hard to find a sculpt that most people wouldn't confuse for a "girl" - Iplehouse Luo is the only male doll I would be interested in buying (I love him!), but is ridiculously out of my price range. It's also easier to dress females and find nice or unique outfits and wigs for them. Wtth my male dolls I was always paranoid about them looking "girly". With girls I don't have to worry about this!

I pretty much prefer the guys. I have nothing against the females, but it's just so easy to make them pretty. With guys, there's a sort of taboo that comes along with it. Like they really shouldn't be as pretty as they are.

Not really, few people actually know about my hobby. But I suppose they'd just assume it's natural for someone like me.

"Guys... are pretty?"

Nah. In fact, my best friend is my BJD buddy. And we've both pretty much agreed that males are the dominant sex in doll world, if only for their often feminine appearance.

Pretty much from the moment I saw a ball joint doll.

I would have to say that I prefer girls over guys. In all honesty I've never really been able to put this into words, but I've always preferred girls over guys in nearly everything I've done from video games to drawings/sketches to even dolls. There have been some floating theories about this but... it's not something I'm really comfortable explaining...

Too many if you ask me...

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Usually I try to shrug it off, but there are times when you can't really escape the question. I usually laugh and attempt to throw them off what I'm really thinking by saying that I think girls are more visually appealing than guys.

4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
Yes and no. I guess it really depends upon your standpoint of this. If you asked any of my friends they'd probably just shrug and say, "He's just a weird guy in general"

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I guess you could say that I discovered this when I was really young... the circumstances that led up to that are probably best kept a secret...

Boys, definitely. I prefer them because they appeal too me more with their face with attitude and that they are easier to sew for with the straighter lines than girls with all their curvy bits. I'd end up with girls wearing my boy's clothes because I hate sewing for curvy bodies. Its also easier to put a dress on a boy and make him look like a girl, than it is to put a suit on a girl and make her look like a boy. The breasts get in the way of the lines in my opinion.

No, I've never been asked really, at least not that I know of.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

Hmm. Strange, I'm not really sure. Probably just that the faces don't appeal too me the same way. Girl dolls all have either the pout-y sad-eyed look or the huge eyes and little button-mouthed smile look, and neither one pleases me.

4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?

Not really, I've always preferred boys and boy stuff over girls and girlie stuff. Clothes, games, everything. I just don't do girly things very often unless I'm forced.

5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?

When I was a little kid. o-o; I was always playing with boys and demanding to play the boy games. I didn't like dolls, I liked matchbox cars and toy trucks and playing Ninja Turtles with my friends. I always wanted to be a turtle, not April. I would beat up a boy if they said that I was a girl so I HAD to be the girl. It just continued on as I got older, moving on to more masculine music, and boy's clothes. I still do it, I wear men's clothes instead of women's, I still like my more masculine music, although I do listen to some other stuff.

I'm just an weird girl. XD I don't think that's much of a problem though.

I like female dolls because they're cute and pretty. Male dolls that are basically just girly girls with man-bits strike me as odd, and while I secretly like some of the more masculine looking male dolls I'd be too embarrassed to get one because of how it would seem, like I'm compensating for being lonely or something.

No, because I don't actually have any dolls yet, lol.

1) What gender do you prefer & why? I prefer boys over girls although I like both. I tend to find that the male sculpts call to me, and I relate better to them. The girls are beautiful, but asthetically I prefer the male dolls. I am more attracted to men then women in people as well, and lastly when I was a child there were dolls, plenty of female dolls, but only a few male ones, and those you could get were muscle boud he-man style action figures. BJD fill that gap and need for beautiful male figures.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?honestly no, no one has ever asked me, those who know me tend to know me well enough that there is no need, and those that don't tend to ask more about the dolls than my preferences.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? the same as I answered above, they are beautiful, I relate to them more, I find them more asthetically pleasing etc.

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?I just did, I occasionally want girls, to fill out characters and in one case I created a character out of my desire for a pretty little goth mini, but I have a very clear preference for the boys

 

I find a lot of the girl dolls very pretty, but when it comes to the dolls that I fall in love with and want to buy, my wishlist is made almost entirely of boys. In fact, my only doll right now is a boy. I'm not sure why I like the boys better. I love cute clothes and I want to buy/make lots of frilly things for the first girl I buy, but I always look at the male dolls first, and they almost always win over a girl that I like of the same size/company/price. The thing is, I don't even like guys, so you can cross out it being my inner female being attracted to something male.

I'm not sure, maybe it's because a lot of other dolls [not bjds] are girls, and I like having something a bit different. -shrugs- Though in general, for my artwork, I tend to like to draw more males, and have more ideas/concepts for male personalities and such. I guess it rubs off onto my choice of dolls. My brain just works funny like that.

Maybe it's that I haven't found a girl that I really like though...

Boys! Girls appear very bland to me; I honestly can't tell what sets a "gorgeous" girl apart from an "average" one. They all look the same ^^; Boys are so much prettier to me I notice all the details about male molds as opposed to female molds, which I usually just give a "meh".

My mom doesn't understand the concept of beautiful boy dolls, neither does one of my friends. They always ask why I have all boys and don't want any girls XD

Well no, they think its weird that the mature dolls have parts, bt not weird that I prefer a gender.

Honestly, I don't know, I just fell in love with BJDs and I was only around boys(SD sized anyways) and I think it would be bothersome to make sure the tops fit right and such

 

I definitely prefer male dolls for the simple reason that many of them either look, or can be made to look, more realistic and human. Female dolls tend to be way too pretty and idealized. A little of that goes a long way for me.
If they made more girl dolls that were fat, had faces that were less "perfect" and more like real humans (including chubby faces, "older" faces with a few wrinkles, and so forth) I would have more girls.
I pretty much only buy a girl doll if I find her facial expression to be intriguing. From time to time I will also convert a male head into a girl doll.

When I was making a decision on which doll I wanted to buy first. It was a hard tie between a resinsoul chun, and a resinsoul feng, but in the end I bought a brownie momo.

Girls! It might be a silly reason, but I think they're prettier than boys And I think that it might also be partly because I find it easier to relate with females.

No, most of my friends with dolls prefer boydolls, but they don't comment on my preferences.

Basically the same thing I wrote in 1). I generally find females more aesthetically pleasing to look at and I relate better with girls.
