1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I used to prefer boys. Simply because somehow, I feel closer to male personalities than female personalities, females are a bit of a mystery to me @__@ (But yes, I am female myself :'D) However... once I started looking at girl dolls... oooh boy girls are simply so beautyfull xD So right now, when I'm looking at sculpts, I prefer females. But still, when it comes down to personality I prefer males.

Lol, don't know, don't care. I think quite some people will actually understand.

Hmm, can't remember a moment. It just was/is that way... you never think about it until someone asks you xD

 

1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Girls! I don't personally find androgynous or effeminate men appealing, and most male sculpts look like girls to me. ^^; There are some companies that have very masculine dolls (Iplehouse comes to mind) but while they're nice sculpts, I can't see myself with one. The only male sculpt I have planned is Musedoll's App, and he's a child MSD, so the somewhat cherubic aspect works.

Nope.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
What I said for question 1, probably.

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
I don't think so.

1) What gender do you prefer & why? For my super dollfies I seem to be more attracted to males than females. I always want a female to dress up but I can't find one versitile enough for me I guess. But my smaller dolls and tinys are females.

I'm new to BJDs (though not dolls), though I researched enough to be able to answer:

1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I've always tended toward female dolls. Before BJDs, it was because (as someone stated earlier) male dolls were "accessories", and therefore did not have the clothing and gear options that I wanted.
With BJDs, they don't have many male sculpts that interest me. Not too offend anyone, but they just aren't manly. When the super hero body came out, I thought, "Now at least I can get a normal-sized male if I wanted."
The thing is, I always prefer balance. So I wish I could have a boy for every girl, but it would be a huge investment since I have everything for girls already.
2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Not at all, but again, I'm new to this scene.
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I'm into the aesthetics of it. If there isn't a sculpt I like (or a wealth of clothing options-which doesn't really apply as much to the BJDs) I'm not interested.
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
I don't think so. This is an interesting thread though, because I always wondered about people's motivations for having only boys. (I could even see getting all boys, because until BJDs, there were so few options for them, like a kid in a candystore for the first time.)
5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
It's all in the sculpts and gear. It's purely a matter of taste. And so I've always known that I want the one with the stuff and the good face

I prefer boys. I don't have much against girls but, I find them rather annoying. You can make them pretty and all but, its much more fun to have a boy.

All the time. I think everyone is curious on other people's choices.

The honest truth, why would I lie? If I don't like girls there is nothing wrong against it. It may start some sort of odd fight but, it's unneeded.

I don't think so. Some people know my background of why I don't like girls. But, most of the time people just nod their head and go, "Ah, I see."

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I think it's because I lived all my life with nothing but my brothers. I don't have any sisters, so I ended up just 'Pffting" girls off.

I don't know if my answers are odd, but they make sense to me. xD;

Girls! ^_^ I prefer them because I love the female form, it is so beautiful. =) Plus, I love dressing dolls up in pretty skirts and dresses, which look better on the girls. ;-)

I figured it out pretty quickly after getting into ABJDs. I looked at a few boys thinking of making boy/girl MSD twins for my 18th birthday as a present to myself since I am a boy/girl twin. But realized I don't seem to like boy dolls as much. =o

Boys. Its hard to find a girl BJD that I like enough to buy. I do have 2 EB Beauty Volks girls (they were my first BJD's) but I really like guys.

I would tell them that I like male BJD's best. My first BJD's were female, and they were basic.

No Im sort of picky. Scratch that. Im really picky.

The fact I still havent found a female bjd that makes my heart flutter like Meigi-2 did. Plus I can dress him up like a girl.

Girls...always have. I have/had about 8 porcelain dolls and they were all girls. I just think girls are so pretty! I'm a bit of a girly girl too. And while I don't care to wear dresses myself I LOVE dressing up my Anna in long lovely flowing gowns. And Dootsy kinda hit the nail on the head, I do love many of the Iplehouse guys too...but they're are sooo manly I'd almost be embaressed to "play" with them. And I admit I'd be afraid there'd be some talk of me being lonely and/or so desperate that I got a manly doll to comfort myself or something like that and thats just not the case. However, my next doll will be a DOD boy doll so....

As I said before, I've always had girl dolls....my little ponys (all girls), Cabbage Patch kids (all girls), faerie figurines (all girls), angel figurines, (all girls)....and so on and so on. The first boy doll I got was my Edward Scissorhands Living Dead Doll a few years ago. And soon, Lahoo.

- I think having boy dolls is creepy. I mean a boy doll in my ROOM at night! I may get one but he will be stored away from my bed.

- Ever since I was little I would make my boy dolls girly. I have a Teayang (boy doll) and he wears headbands and stuff all the time. I mean I will get a boy BJD sometime but I find most of them creepy.

That's really hard to say... I guess I prefer girls. I'm really picky when it comes to dolls, but when it comes to girl dolls it's near impossible for me to find a mold I really would consider buying. I guess it's the thrill of the hunt that make girl dolls appeal to me more. Don't get me wrong, I mean, I love my boys and there are alot of really hansom boy dolls out there. And I also have more boys than girls. But when it comes down to my wishlist... well, girls dominate.

Sometimes. I mean, me and my friends discuss it from time to time, but it's not a regular question I'm asked.
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Pretty much the same thing as what I answered in the first question, it's the thrill of finding the perfect doll that appeals to me the most.

I can see where people who don't share my opinion might think it odd. But I'm happy with my choices in dolls.

When I answered these questions, XD. If I really do prefer girls over guys it's only miniscule.

I would have said "Girls" if you asked me when I started collecting, but I'm sort of drifting towards boys..they are a lot of fun to think of backstories for, more than the girls who are generally just clotheshorses. Not that this is a bad thing

Mostly people are "You collect giant dolls 0_o ??" I don't think they can tell the difference between the girls and the guys, even with pants...mostly they are too busy looking at the blue hair to wonder what gender they are.

Let's just say that 90% of my personal and professional life is already so weird that this doesn't even register. I think it's weird because it never occurred to me to collect GI Joes before. I think I missed out


5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
Sort of by accident..my first bjd, a msd girl, took months to arrive, and in the meantime I bought a Domuya Zen..I have no idea what possessed me, but I really like him. Boys tend to come and stay, while girls get sent on.

I definitely prefer male dolls. I think it's more fun to dress them/sew for them (I myself am a lifelong tomboy) and I have more male characters.I also prefer male sculpts, and haven't found very many female sculpts I would want to own. I will probably have a couple of female dolls eventually though, for the very small amount of female characters I have. xDD

Oh, I like my boys! :3 Not sure, they look better, much more to my liking. It's ones personally tastes, that's all.

Ummm...not really. I know a lot of people with only boy dolls, so it really never comes up. No one around me really cares.

I dig the guys more than I dig the gals. That's all, there really isn't anything special. xD

Nope! It's normal in the hobby, or at least I think it is. A lot of people prefer girls and a lot of people prefer boys, and some people just like them both.

Before I even got a doll, I saw all the dolls and the first thing I noticed was the boys. The oh so pretty boys, and then I got Kizimir and that sealed the deal.

Female, because all the boys are too scrawny. A lot of them you can't even tell that it is a boy without taking off their pants and checking for yourself. I'd love to see some broader, "meatier" sculpts, particularly for the adults.*

Doesn't really apply. I once dressed up Wolfboy in a dress to prove my point. He makes a nice looking drag queen, I suppose.

No, although one of my friends objects to me putting girl clothes on Wolfboy. I think its a bit silly to worry over that sort of thing.

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
The second I looked at a site (and later, at a local store) and went "where are all the boys." Really, I just can't stand the effeminate looks!

* I once saw a custom sculpt of a fat female doll on deviantart. She reminded me of a fertility type figure and was quite beautiful in her own way. Was too small for my liking tho. And I've yet to see a fat or jock-like build for a male. Anything with broad shoulders, muscled or not!

 

Have you looked at the Iplehouse EID Super Hero Body? Compared to other male BJDs, he's pretty meaty. Still not particularly big compared to an actual person (in proper scale ).

Tinybear has two buxom elf tinies that are adorable.

I really like the girls. I don't know why, but I just can't get into the males... or maybe it's just that I haven't seen one that I really want.

When looking at dolls in shops, I tend to prefer female dolls. I'm not sure exactly why but I do roleplay and the majority of my characters over the years have been female.

When i decided to buy a doll, i was 100% sure it should be a girl. I checked some boys too but didnt find anyone i'd like. I still don't find.. But i have a lot of requirements lol
So far, only girls were that I liked. But i'm sure if i find a boy that would really fit in the image i have in mind, i wont hesitate ^^

Girls, totally. I've never even seriously considered buying a boy doll, as gorgeous as a lot of them are. I make dolls too, and they're all girls unless I get a special request to make a boy. Why? I don't know. Here's an illuminating quote from my old roommate, though, on meeting my bjd: "She's so cool! She's like a fantasy version of you!"

Not really. I got into the hobby pretty recently, and don't know any BJD people in person. The only person I talk dolls with is my Mom (awww), and she's just like me--most of her dolls are girls too.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
What I just said above, pretty much. I don't feel bad about it or anything. Collecting girl dolls isn't any "weirder" than collecting dolls in general, so I'd try to, uh, shoehorn the girl think into my overarching weirdness.

Actually, I always assumed it was pretty normal, and I was sort of surprised to see all the boy dolls here on DoA. Don't know why I thought that, but I stand corrected.

5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other? Well, I was always like that as a kid and young adult, so I wasn't surprised that it was as true for these dolls as it was for other dolls.
I'm not saying never, mind. Maybe a boy doll will really grab me. To put it another way,if someone gave me one (ha, that'll happen) I would keep him... but I haven't seen any I gotta have.
