1) What gender do you prefer & why?
So far all my dolls are boys. These is only one Yo-sized girl coming but can be a boy as well. I guess it's because of anime/manga and i just can't resist cute boys ^.^

Not really
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I'm more attracted to boys, that's all. I like pretty outfits for the girls though
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Many ppl know that i'm into Yaoi and manga so i guess they are not surprised
5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Since the beginning, my heart always falls for the boy molds.

Female, hands-down. I've tried adding boy dolls to my collection, and it failed horribly. Girls are just more fun for me, especially as far as dress-up goes. It's the same with human babies, even - there is just more clothing/etc out there for girls! XD

Nope, never. Of course, I don't have an army of BJDs...yet. <_<

Girls are more fun to dress/buy for!

No, but others think it's weird that I collect dolls period. I don't have any real-life friends who collect, haha :P
5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Right away, pretty much as soon as I started collecting. I tried adding a boy, and it just didn't work out. :/ There are some really gorgeous boy molds out there, but they just aren't for me. I do like looking at photos, though!

 

Absolutely has to be Girlies, gotta love those face-ups, the fashion, the wigs, just want a little me who is the model/actress/superstar I was supposed to be!!
But strangely enough my first dollhead is a boy, but gonna be changing his gender and he is very, very pretty

 

The majority of BJDs that really appeal to me are boys. I'm not sure why. I guess it's mainly the face. I just haven't really found any girls with faces that I just adore. I like both genders' bodies (in general), so... Yeah. Face. =P And a lot of the boys kind of look like girls. I think it also has a lot to do with the character you have in mind for a doll. My character is a boy, so I got a boy doll. Although my girl character will have a boy's head...lol. So maybe I just prefer boys anyway. =P

 

Hey everyone,
I recently just started looking for my first doll to buy. The problem is, I can't make a decision that sticks! I can't decide if i want a girl doll first or a boy. I want my first doll to mean a lot to me and I don't want to regret getting it. Do you have any advice on how to make a final decision on a doll?

you could draw a picture of what you want your doll to look like and then try to find a doll that matches that picture the closest.

 

If you can't imagen getting "over" it if the doll suddenly became unavailable tomorrow...I think that's a pretty good indicator ^^;

Females. I believe it might have something to do with the fact that I love drawing female characters... I just relate better to them.

Not really, most of my friends actually expect me to have only female dolls. Once I mentioned about boy dolls to a friend and she couldn't understand why would I want a boy.

I buy girls more often because there are so many beautiful girls to choose from and I keep falling hard for them. I don't care much for pretty guys or fantasy guys, and that doesn't leave many realistic masculine dolls to pick from. I do have several on my wishlist, though, and plan to buy more as I can afford them.

 

Get twins!

My advice would be not to settle - take your time deciding on the doll that you want, and don't just impulsively buy one just because it'll mean having a doll faster. Also, if you intend to try to build a collection, give some thought to what you want it to look like... Are you the kind of person that doesn't mind all shapes and sizes, or will you end up selling that SD because down the road you find that most of your dolls are MSD?

If you're the kind of person that needs something tangible to decide (like me!), make a list of your faves and what you like about them. You may find you already have a clear frontrunner, but you just needed to get the bigger picture.

Personally, for me - I am a girl. I can dress myself up and give myself a face-up (apply make-up) whenever I want to, so girl dolls don't really appeal to me the way that boy dolls do.

No - maybe a bit juvenile in a 'I'll show you my parts if you show me yours' kind of way, but no.

I always knew my first doll would be a boy. I love yaoi, and I write fanfiction about boys who want to be with other boys, so...

Boys, definitely boys. I find I'm a lot pickier about girl dolls, and most simply don't have that spark which makes me want to immediately hit the buy button.

Not very often. I don't tell strangers or acquaintances how many boy or girl dolls I have (if the topic of dolls comes up at all, which it usually doesn't), so the only people who really know how many boy dolls I have are my friends and family. And they know me well enough not to be surprised.

I'd probably just shrug and say, "These are the molds that appealed to me".

Nope. It's not like the topic comes up very often. And my boy dolls aren't the most masculine-looking of men, so if a random stranger sees me carrying a boy doll and says, "Wow, what I pretty girl!", I just smile and nod and thank them.

Immediately. When I first discovered dolls, I did a ton of comparisons between different molds, trying to find the one that appealed to me most. And without fail, it was always the boys that caught my attention.

Boys prolly even tho Miwa (my first and only so far) is a girl XD and actually the first doll I wanted was a boy doll but his huge fish ears kinda stopped me from getting him...It's harder for me to fall in love with a girl dolls face (and I've only done that with two or three (including Miwa) and when I do I REALLY fall hard lol) than a boy dolls face since I find so many of the boy models so much more likable and pretty~

I prefer girl dolls for a few reasons. My preference for males is a more muscles and manly look rather than an androgynous appearance and there just aren't too many dolls that fit this. I love Unidoll, but that leads to another issue: clothes. I like clothes a lot and I like having a lot to choose from be it for myself or for my dolls. Unidolls are a different size, so finding clothes for them would be difficult. Also, I like girly clothing, dresses, and whatnot, and so my clothing preferences show in my dolls.

Depending on how much they were or weren't into dolls, pretty much a version (or shortened version) of what I wrote for question one.

I discovered my preference a few months ago when I was going through my wishlist and dolls that I really wanted instead of just liked. All the ones I really wanted were all girls and of many different types.

It's just a matter of taste. I like dressing my dolls in dresses and cute things, which makes shopping for them and dressing them so fun.

When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Right away. All my dolls have been female and I have never really considered getting a male doll.

 

What gender do you prefer & why?

I prefer male dolls. I do own two girl dolls, but I don't love them like I do my boys. It is true there are alot of really cute clothes available for girl dolls, but I just can't get interested in them. As for why I prefer boys, I think there are a few reasons. Most of my dolls represent characters in the stories I write and most of my characters are guys. When I write female characters I find I have a difficult time getting interested in them or really understanding them. Which is strange being as I am a girl. My female characters always come out very one dimensional and extreme. There just isn't much to them. I don't get along well with other women in real life, I have always had mostly guy friends. I guess it was normal for me to want boy dolls.

Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Not really. I think most people just assume they are girls and don't think much about it. Strangers rarely strike up conversations with me, I'm not very approachable.

What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I'm not sure. If I was being snarky I would probably just say "I like boys" but I may just say that they represent characters and those characters are male. Pretty simple really.

Not that they have mentioned. My hubby collects dolls as well and he also prefers boys.


When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
My first doll was actually a girl, I just assumed I would want girl dolls to dress up. I never really liked her though. So I sold her. Since then I have purchased three other girl dolls. I only still own two of them. One is a little girl and I do love her, she will probably always be with me. I enjoy dressing her up all cute and she is very innocent and fun. The other is an SD girl and if it weren't that I felt so very sorry for Noble I probably never would have purchased her. He seemed so lonely without his lover, and he is my only straight boy doll. I am sure it will be fun to dress her up, there are so many neat SD girl clothes, but I'm just not nearly as into her as I am my boy dolls. If ever a time came when I had to sell a doll to get needed cash I would sell the girls before the boys. Those boys are special to me.

I have absolutely no interest in owning a girl doll, ever. I'm strictly into the boys...I suppose it's because I love BL/Yaoi and "pretty" boys. There are so many beautiful male molds out there, and I personally find them much more attractive than any of the females I've seen.

None one's asked me that yet, although my Mom constantly keeps asking if I'll get a girl one day and I keep telling her, "No, not going to happen." :P

If it was someone I didn't know very well (or knew they weren't open to or approving of homosexuality) then I'd probably be very vague, shrug and just say that I just like boys better. For anyone else, I'd tell them what I said for the first question.

I don't know if she thinks it's wierd or not, but my Mom has asked a few times why I chose to get a boy. (She got the shrug and vague answer). Heh. :P

Ten minutes after I started looking at owner photos and promo pics on the company sites, I knew that I wasn't at all interested in owning a girl...that one day I would have a big ole' harem of boys. :-)

BOYS! Out of all my dolls, only one is a girl. Boys just appeal to me more I guess. When I was a child I loved dolls and collected many different sorts, but they were always girls, ie. barbie, porcelian dolls, cupcakes, etc. There weren't really any boy dolls other than Ken and Action Man, but eww! Just eww! They are not so appealing to a young girl! I don't mind them now, but as a child they weren't to my taste! lol So, when I discovered male BJD dolls and saw that they were just as beautiful, if not more beautiful in my opinion, than some of the girl dolls, it was an instant attraction that reinforced my preference.

Not really, other than my mum wondering why I only bought boy dolls, but when I bought Emilie she stopped asking.

I just prefer boy dolls because I grew up with playing with girl dolls, and it wasn't until I discovered BJD's that I realised boy dolls are more for me.

When I saw a boy BJD for the first time and thought he was a girl, lol. It was very early on that I discovered my preference for boys. Boys are more fun to dress too because I'm not a boy!
